Thesis Question: What is Jesus role as our High Priest in heaven?

Heb. 4:15-16
Therefore, since we have a great high __________ who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us
hold firmly to the faith we profess. Let us then approach Gods throne of grace with confidence, so that we
may receive ___________ and find ___________ to help us in our time of need.

From the text above we see that Christ, as our High Priest, gives us two things:
Mercy We need mercy because we have sinned. We receive mercy in the form of pardon for sin.
Grace to help us in our time of need Our time of spiritual need is in moments of temptation. Jesus
gives us grace in the present through power over temptation.

The dual function of Jesus as our High Priest is twofold:

___________ for sin

___________ over sin

Pardon
1 John 1:9: If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to ___________ us our sins, and to cleanse us from all
unrighteousness.

Power:
Jude 24: To him who is able to _________ you from stumbling and to present you before his glorious presence
without fault and with great joy.

To the woman caught in adultery, Jesus said, "Neither do I __________ you (pardon); go and sin _____ more
(power)." John 8:11

On the cross, Jesus earned the right to forgive. Then, as our High Priest, He gives the benefits of the cross to
those who believe. It is vitally important that we understand Christs dual purpose for us as our High Priest.
Jesus, as our High Priest, gives us both the pardon for sin and power over sin. Jesus wants to grant us total
deliverance from sin!
