Lantern Deliverers Needed
A Lantern deliverer is needed for DLW
residences on Drexel St. The McCullen
family has been doing this job but is
moving away from DLW. We will miss
them but wish them well. We are also
looking for alternates to help out with
deliveries on other streets during
vacation time. It doesnt take much
time, is good exercise and another way
to meet and greet your neighbors.
If you are able and interested in
assuming this important job on Drexel
Street or serving as an alternate, please
contact Pat Stout at 703-573-9293 or
Kathy Arpa at 703-205-9041.

DLWCA ANNUAL
ELECTION
The annual election of
DLWCA officers and
board members will
take place at the
May 15 DLWCA membership meeting.
Please give participation careful
consideration and contact any of the
board members, officers or committee
leaders listed in your new DLWCA
directory for information on any
position that may suit your interests.
We are also looking for a co-editor of
The Lantern newsletter. If you have a
computer, good writing, editing and
graphic skills and want to meet new
people, this may be something you
would like to do. Serving as a volunteer

ISLAND REPORT
Thanks to the following for their many
hours of volunteer work in beautifying
the community islands:
Gallows & Cottage: Linda Ryan
Cedar & Cottage: Jo Ann Donnelly
Cedar & Bowling Green: John Andonian
We are working to rebuild the garden at
Gallows Road. The progress is a bit slow
and is hampered by the hard clay and
stones that got churned up by the
utilities crew when they installed the
new traffic light and gas-line access
panel. This year, in addition to the
Burgundy Barberry shrubs, we are
trying a few Peach Drift Roses. They are
a relative of the Knockout Rose and are
supposed to be low growing and
carefree. This will be a real hardiness
test for them. You will also see some
annuals to add season-long color. We
chose White Lantanas for their drought
tolerance and multi-toned Calibrachoas
(aka Million Bells & Super Bells) for
their low, spreading habit. Once we get
the bumps smoothed out and the mulch
spread, it will look almost normal again.

CONGRATULATIONS
Our own Board Member Kathy Arpa was
elected 2
nd
Vice President of the Virginia
Federation of Chapters of the National
Active and Retired Federal Employees
Association (NARFE) at their 58
th

annual state convention in Richmond on
April 23. Kathy is a past president of
the local NARFE Chapter 1116 (Vienna-
Oakton).

As we drive thru the neighborhood we are
seeing more and more For Sale Signs,

remind you of a couple of the DLWCA

for present owners planning on selling or
not selling.

land and shall be binding on all parties and
all persons claiming under them for a
period of 10 years from the date these
covenants are recorded, after which time
said covenants shall be automatically
extended for successive periods of 10 years
unless an instrument signed by the majority
of the then owners of the lots have been
recorded agreeing to change said covenants
in whole or in part.
#14 All residences carports, lots and yards
shall be maintained in a neat and attractive
manner so as not to detract from the
