ACCORDING to the National Audit Of-
fice, the cost of heating your home is
likely to rise above the rate of inflation

HOUSING market activity con-
tinues to rise with more trans-
actions, although price
increases seem to be slowing.
The number of properties
coming to the market in
September through the five
branches of Perry Bishop and
Chamberswas substantially
higher than the same period
last year.
National reports on the hous-
ing market always need to be
seen in context against local
trends.
Recently I have seen the fol-
lowing four different national
headlines: Rising prices coun-
ter talk of market slowdown,
House prices still rising but at
slower rate, Fall in mortgage
approvals as market cools
and More balanced picture
emerging nationally.
The evidence through our
local branch network shows
that the number of instructions
coming to the market has risen
substantially year-on-year.
Sales fell very slightly which
we put down to a slow start in
September as the country
waited the outcome of the
Scottish referendum.
Halifax says that prices rose
by just 0.6 per cent in the
month of September but the
year on year increase is still
9.6 per cent.
Land registry says the annual
rise is 8.4 per cent in line
with our own evidence in the
Cotswolds and Cheltenham
and we expect to have seen a
rise in prices of about 10 per
cent for the year as a whole.
We normally sell more hous-
es in October and November
than any other time of year as
buyers hurry to be in a new
home by Christmas.
Viewing levels for October
were up12 per cent up year-on-
year so we are expecting to
record record sales around
the 100 homes mark.
Poll shows what buyers would do

to move out of the UK
to get on to the property
ladder.
One in five say they
are willing to reduce
their standard of living.
But 49 per cent dont
ever expect to own a
home.
Brits without a home
will go to extreme meas-
ures in order to get on
the property ladder, ac-
cording to research from
Santander Mortgages.
The study reveals that
1.1 million (seven per
cent) would consider
emigrating if it meant
they could afford their
own home.
A further one in 10
would be willing to move
jobs or relocate some-
where else in the UK to
get a foot on the ladder,
rising to 23 per cent of
18-24 year olds.
The research also re-
veals that 7.5 million
(49 per cent) of non-
homeowners in Britain
dont ever expect to own
a home.
However, the dream
is alive for many, who
are willing to draw on
a range of measures to
save for a deposit.
Of those surveyed the
majority were willing
to reduce their standard
of living (20 per cent)
or sacrifice luxury pur-
chases, for example, a
car or a holiday (20 per
cent).
Younger generations
are the most likely to
rely on family in their
quest for home-owner-
ship, with more than a
quarter (28 per cent) of
18 to 24 year olds who
do not own a home liv-
ing with their parents or
partners parents while
they save for a deposit.
