Afrizos Diary:
Updates on the US Trip
Since their arrival in the USA, Afrizo has had a
packed itinerary. The team arrived in Philadelphia on
6th October, 2014 and hit the road running. They
were received by Ron Payne of Enon Tabernacle
Church. Their rst performance in Philadelphia
was on 7th October at Center City Bible study,
where they got to experience the African American
Church. That evening Afrizo held a concert at Enon
Tabernacle Church, that saw many people attend.
I was coming to bible study and I got a once in a
life time concert/praise and worship all in one, said
Jada; one of the audience who attended the concert.
On Thursday 9th October 2014, the team had the
opportunity to visit historical places in Philadelphia;
they visited the Independence hall, where they got
to see the congress hall, where the declaration of
Americas independence was made. Other sites
visited included Benjamin Franklins home, printing
press museum and other historical places within city.
On the evening of 9th October, Afrizo had their
last concert in Philadelphia at Old Pine Presbyterian
Church, and the following day they left for New
Jersey and New York City. Here the team got to
do one performance in New York City and two in
New Jersey; they performed at Brick Church in New
York City in a concert that started at 6:30pm. On
Sunday 12th October 2014, the team performed in
the Sunday morning service of Presbyterian Church
Afrizo in performance at a church in Philadelphia.
of Upper Montclair, New Jersey, where they got
to sing a couple of songs. They also sang with the
church choir. Rocky Govedi, a Communication
student at Daystar University, who is doing internship
in Washington DC took a video of the performance
and also did an interview with the team, for a media
company that he is working with. On the evening
of the same day, Afrizo had their rst concert in
New Jersey and as usual the team brought the house
down; the congregation was really ecstatic.
The last day at New Jersey and New York City
saw Afrizo tour New York City, thanks to Jennifer
Randolph; the Afrizo US tour coordinator. The
team got to see the Statue of Liberty, Ground zero;
where the 9/11 took place and Top of the Rock at
Rockefeller center, from where one is able to see the
whole of New York City. On 13th October 2014,
they caught their ight to South Carolina.
Infospot wishes Afrizo success as they traverse the
USA to raise funds for our University.

THESIS OF THE WEEK
Stigma Management Communication: A Case of Tungiasis in Muranga County. By Stephen G. Komotho,
Doctor of Philosophy in Communication
Abstract
Stigma management communication (SMC) refers to the efforts of stigmatized individuals to control information
about their spoiled identity during a communication process. The need to manage stigma communication stems
from the range of negative outcomes linked to stigma, such as devalued social identities, prejudice, stereotyping
and social isolation. The purpose of this study was to establish how stigma messages associated with tungiasis are
managed through communication processes. Specically, the study set out to describe the nature of tungiasis stigma
communication, identify types of tungiasis stigmas, investigate the attitude adopted by individuals suffering from
tungiasis during stigma communication, and describe the outcomes of tungiasis stigma communication.
Stakeholders Roles in Implementing the Readmission Policy on Adolescent Mothers in Public Secondary Schools
in Kikuyu District, Kiambu County, Kenya. By Naomi Mbugua - Doctor of Philosophy in Education
Abstract
Although the Government Readmission Policy on girls who get pregnant while in schools was launched ofcially in
1999 and clear implementation guidelines formulated by March 2011, there are still challenges in regard to effective
and active participation by adolescent mothers in schools. Explored literature show that previous studies on the policy
have not considered adolescent mothers already in schools, their aspirations and challenges involved, but focused
on whether readmission was taken seriously. Therefore, there was a need to ll this gap with a study on stakeholders
roles in implementing the Government Readmission Policy on adolescent mothers in public secondary schools in
Kenya. In order to carry out an in-depth study, the researcher focused on one district, Kikuyu, in Kiambu County.
The key questions that guided the study sought information on the extent to which the key stakeholders in public
secondary schools in Kikuyu District are aware of the Readmission Policy Guidelines; the extent to which stakeholders
are prepared to implement the policy effectively; ways in which stakeholders use the policy to raise aspirations of the
adolescent mothers in their studies; the key stakeholders response to the Readmission Policy Guidelines; challenges
faced in the process of promoting effective implementation of the Readmission Policy Guidelines and how best the
policy could be implemented.
