BULLDOG PRIDE

Teachers Choice poems

After reading a Shel Silverstein list poem about politeness, each eighth grade student at Fairfax R-3 School had
the chance to write their own list poem. Here are some of
Mr. Mark Statens Teachers Choice poems.

What about the Music?

by Shanna Gilpin

What is important about music?

Music isnt just sound it is,
half notes
eighth notes
quarter notes
whole
sixteenth notes, even
rhythm and rolls
pitch
tune
practice now
we sound great, you want to know how
hard work
training
pressure
reaching
our band is the best due to great teaching

by Jayton Johnson
This year the fourth grade
had the opportunity to go on
a granted field trip by the
Nature Unleashed Missouri
Department of Conservation. These kids used the
skills they have been working on the past eight weeks
in a real life setting. When
I asked Mrs. Lotter about
the homework the kids had
after the trip she said, The
students had to sketch five
plants taller than them, five
plants shorter and five signs
of an animal. Some of the
exercises that the kids were
involved in were a threehour hike, exploring three
different types of ecosystems
and also getting their hands
dirty with the conservation
department.

Teacher
Spotlight

by Shayla Roberson
Our school has some
amazing teachers. They
know how to teach, not just
tell, and were grateful for
that. This week the teacher
in the spotlight is Mr. Hollingsworth. He is the high
school business teacher and
a coach for junior high football, varsity basketball and
an assistant coach for baseball. He has been at Fairfax
R-3 School for five years
now. Mr. Hollingsworth lives
in Maryville with his wife
Ashley and one-year-old
daughter Lily.

Yearbook
second hour

by Audrae Bates
The creation of the yearbook is coming along great!
We are putting the finishing
touches on some of our first
pages. We have yet to decide
on a yearbook cover but have
had some great submissions
from our class. Hopefully by
next week we will have that
chosen and also begin our
dedication for the yearbook.
Yearbooks are currently
$45 to pre-order, but if you
wait until January 2 theyll
be $50. Get your copy now!

Marching Pride takes

second at last parade
by Amber and April Clark
On October 24, the Fairfax Marching Pride gathered at the school for a
lock-in around 7:00 p.m., to
prepare for their last parade
of 2014. Lights went out
around 11:30 p.m. At 2:30
in the morning the band
got up and got on the bus to
start for Columbia. The bus
trip was a minimum of four
hours.
Arriving at Columbia
the bus was parked and the
band members were getting
on uniforms and putting
together instruments. The
parade started at 8:00 a.m.,
with 17 blocks to go. The
awards were held directly
after the parade, and Fair-

fax Marching Band won second place in class white.

The band attended the
Mizzou Homecoming game.
The members had a blast
and watched the Mizzou
Marching Pride during halftime. As the game came to
an end with the Tigers on
top the band walked to the
bus and prepared for dinner
at the mall. After being filled
and now tired from a long
but fun day they checked in
at the hotel and slept for the
night.
The Fairfax Marching
Pride has had an amazing
marching year with two second place trophies and one
first place trophy for places
at all three parades they attended.
