Freshman English Vocabulary

In order to build a vast vocabulary and improve students writing and reading comprehension, we will work
with words regularly. Each quarter students will have three units of vocabulary, each containing 20
vocabulary words most commonly seen on the SAT and ACT.
Students will spend three weeks on each set of words and take a quiz before moving on to the next unit.
Below is the tentative schedule with the weekly activities to be completed in the vocabulary packet. Please
know that students may be asked to work with their vocabulary on additional assignments (i.e.
incorporating them into their writing).
We will review the homework weekly in class, but students are expected to review these words on their
own at home. Though not required, flash cards are a wonderful study tool when learning new vocabulary.
An example of how to format the flashcard is on the back.
