Neil Young’s first album was released on his 23rd birthday (November 12 1968). However, on
Jannuary 1969, the album was partially remixed and the “Neil Young” header added to the cover.

A bit of punk for a change… The Clash – The Clash (1979)

The first album by The Clash is musically varied, with reggae and early rock'n'roll influences
plaintly clear, which is unusual for punk bands. Most of the album was conceived in a flat which
was rented by Mick Jones' grandmother, who used to watch their concerts. On the third session,
the album was recorded and mixed. The tapes were given to CBS in the beginning of March. The
production costed 4,000 pounds. As usual in punk rock albums, it has lots of protest songs, such as
Remote Control, I'm So Bored With the USA and White Riot - the first single released by The Clash,
a short and intense song, classic punk style of two chords played very fast, which talks about class
economics and race. It peaked at number 12 in the UK charts. New Musical Express ranked the
album number 13 in it's list “of the Greatest Albums Of All Time”; Q Magazine placed The Clash at
number 48 in int's list of the 100 Greatest British Albums Ever in 2000; the album got several other
good reviews and accolades. / O primeiro álbum do Clash é musicalmente variado, evidenciando
influências do reggae e dos primórdios rock'n'roll, o que é incomum em bandas de punk. A maior
parte do álbum foi desenvolvida num flat alugado pela avó de Jones, que costumava assisti-los em
seus concertos.€ Na terceira sessão, o álbum foi gravado e mixado. As gravações foram entregues à
CBS no início de março. A produção custou 4.000 libras. Como de costume no punk, o álbum
contém várias músicas de protesto, em Remote Control, I'm So Bored With the USA e White Riot -
primeiro compacto lançado pelo Clash, uma música curta e intensa, no estilo punk clássico, com
dois acordes e tocada com muita rapidez, que fala sobre a economia de classes e raça. O álbum
alcançou o nº 12 das paradas britânicas. A revista New Musical Expresso deu-lhe o número 13 da

Not a classic to enter the “10 Best Debut Albums” series, but yet a great debut work. Naive is
surely my favourite, but almost all the songs are so great that it’s hard to mention other
highlights. The album received good (AllMusic, Spin)€ and bad (Rolling Stone, Pitchfork) reviews,
bur, for me, it stands as one of the most significative contemporary works. / Embora não seja um
clássico para entrar na série “10 Best Debut Albums”, ainda assim é um grande trabalho de
estreia. Naive é sem dúvidas a minha favorita, mas quase todas as canções são tão boas que fica
difícil citar outros destaques. O álbum recebeu críticas boas (AllMusic, Spin) e ruins (Rolling
Stone, Pitchfork), mas, para mim, é um dos trabalhos contemporâneos mais significativos.

An album with a quite raw sound. Songs end up with feedback and there are dialogues at the
beginning or at the end of some of them. Highlights are "I'm The Ocean", "Peace and Love"
and "Throw Your Hatred Down", although the openning act - "Song Xalto" - has a quite intriguing
sound. Although not a much-praised album - Pearl Jam and Neil Young's audience expected
something much more explosive, especially because of the stature of both parties - Mirror Ball
reached #5 on Billboard and received good reviews from NME and Rolling Stone.

Um álbum com um som bastante cru. As músicas são finalizadas por feedback, e há diálogos no
início ou no final de algumas. Destaque para "I'm The Ocean", "Peace and Love" e "Throw Your

"Get Together" was written by Chester (Chet) Powers, best known as Dino Valenti, for his rock
group Quicksilver Messenger Service. Powers, however, was arrested for drugs possession before
the group could record it. It was then recorded by the Youngbloods, being released in 1969 and
reaching the number 16 on Billboard. / "Get Together" foi composta por Chester (Chet) Powers,
