Scholastic Book Club
Great news! We're running a Scholastic Book Club to earn free books for our school. We'll be sending the Book Club
leaflets home so that you and your child can choose from the latest exciting selection of books. Please place your order
online at http://schools.scholastic.co.uk/tockington-manor by November 21st, 2014 to ensure that you get your books in
time for Christmas. Online ordering is really simple. You will buy books for Tockington Manor School Book Club and they
will be delivered to school. Many of the books are discounted and you can view them online. Books which are no longer
available are : Pocket Manual for Football Stars; Tell the Time Book and The Day the Crayons Quit.
This book club replaces the Puffin Book Club which is no longer operational. I have just been able to spend over 250 on
books for the school, paid for by rewards earned through orders made by yourselves. On top of this we have spent our
Readathon rewards and our commission from the Travelling Book Fair, so your children will see lots of new books
appearing in the library in the very near future.
We will also be bringing you news about our Reading Challenge and the very exciting new Junior Librarian software,
which will allow all of our children to browse books in our library from the comfort of their own homes! Watch this space for
more information on this great new service!
Do please take a look at the catalogue and order online to help us to keep expanding our library stock!
Christmas Crafts
We have many fantastic crafts lined up for the Christmas Fayre - simple and effective
things that the children can make for Christmas. I have set myself a massive task to collect
about 100 Robertson's style 1lb jam jars with lids on for one of the crafts. Please could you
tink of us next time you throw out a jam jar? All donations gratefully received. I will put a
box out in the back lobby for all donations. Then hopefully, the next time you see your jam
jars, they will look completely different!
Monmouth Prep Schools Challenge
This Sunday four of our Year 8s will be off to Monmouth School to test out their General
Knowledge against many other prep schools from the region. They are : Henry AllanJones, Alex Gooch, Tom Edwards and Roshan Patel. Do wish them well. this is always a very tricky quiz and we hope
they have an enjoyable afternoon.

Verity Smith
We had a wonderful assembly on our first day back after
half term. Verity and her guide dog Uffa kept us enthralled.
The children got a chance to meet Uffa who loved the
attention. We learnt that it costs 50,000 to train a guide
dog.
Verity inspired us all with her positivity and warmth. She is
training for the 2016 Olympics in Rio as a dressage
competitor. She is also a singer/songwriter and has just
appeared as Marilyn Monroe in the theatre. Verity has
been nominated into the final for the Inspirational Guide
Dog Owners of the Year Awards in London.
Verity has agreed to come back and tell us about her
many and varied achievements and will also sing for us!

Bonfire Night
FOTM are really looking forward to welcoming you and your children to bonfire night next Friday. Here are some
reminders about the timings and some things to note.
Nursery and Lower School will finish at normal time and then parents and children can arrive at 4.30 pm for food and disco
and sweets, glow sticks and face painting. The bonfire will be lit at 6.10 pm when they may leave or are welcome to stay
on for longer. Please be aware, however, that this is when the Upper School will be ready to have their fun and so there
will be many more and much bigger children around, especially in the disco, so please keep a close eye on smaller
children. At all times, unless your child has been booked in to aftercare or to board for the night they remain the
responsibility of parents and not the school, teachers or members of FOTM. This includes supervising them on
the walk up to and down from the bonfire, in the disco and when playing outside.
Upper School children must be collected by 6.00 pm unless boarding, but please send them in with a change of clothes
(probably warm ones! as they will have supervised changing at 5.45 pm to enable them to be ready and waiting for you at
6.00 pm.
We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible and thank you in advance for coming to support the event and the
school. Have fun everyone!
