EXPRESSION

EXPRESSING OF BLAMING, ACCUSING, AND ADMITTING


The following expressions of accusing, blaming and admitting.
(1) ACCUSING is expression when someone said that said persom did something wromg
although she/he doesnt know truth,like stealing.
*) It must have been know the truth, like stealing.
*) I thimk you are the only person who could have done it.
*) You must be doing something wrong.
(2) BLAMMING is an expression that is used to say on somebody the respobility for
something done (badly or wrongly) or not done.
*) It was your fault.
*) You are the one to blame.
*) Serves your right.
*) You are to blame for steal my.....
Someone who accused of blamed usually declines it. The following are the
responses used:
*) Its not true.
*) Its wasnt me
*) You are wrong, i didnt do it.
*) I am not the one to blame.
(3) ADMITTING MISTAKE : When we did something wrong, its better for us to admit
of confess our mistake. We can use the following expressions.
*) I have to admit that.....
*) I was the one to blame
*) I admit i was wrong
*) I have made a mistake
We can also use the expressions of apology, for example i am sorry, forgive
me! To respond it, we can use :
*) Okay, just dont it again.
*) Its allright.
Example:
Anggi : Did anybody see my purple pen?
Arie,Putri & Parlin: No.
Putri : I saw Arie borrowed it from your pencil case without telling you. So Arie must
have taken it. (Accusing)

Arie: I did borrow your purple pen without asking your permission, but you were in
the toilet so i asked Parlin instead, and Parlin said its not yours so i can have it
(Blaming)
Arie & Parlin: Were sorry for that. We promise we will be careful next time. I wont
happen again.

EXPRESSION OF POSSIBILITY AND IMPOSSIBILLITY


Possibility it when there is a chance the something may happen or be true. To say that
something is possible and impossible, use the following expressions:
ASKING FOR POSSIBILITY :
*) Would there be any possible of.....?
*) Would it be possible for
*) Do you think he/it could.....?
*) Is it possible to.....?
EXPRESSING POSSIBILITY
*) There is a good chance of.....
*) Maybe she will repair it
*) I think that would be possible.....
*) *) There is a good chance of.....
*) Maybe she will repair it
*) I think that would be possible.....
*) Yes, there is a possibility....
*) Perhaps she will visit London
*) She might by some presents for the family before she goes.
EXPRESSION IMPOSSIBILITY
*) Theres no chance my father repairs it tomorrow.
*) It is impossible to gain succes without working hard.
*) Even a good mechanic cant possibly fix it.
*) We may be able to travel by car.
NOTE : POSSIBILITY is when there is a chance that something may happen or be
true,while PROBABILITY is the like hood of something happening or being true.
Example:
Fini: Where is Fino, vin?
Vina: He went to the zoo an hour ago.
Fini: Oh, i was too late to see him.
Vina: There is a good chance of catching him if you take a taxi.
Fini: Do you know his phone number? May be i can contact him first.
Vina: I think theres little chance of contacting him by phone.
Fini: Ok, ill try to catch him by taxi.

EXPRESSION OF CURIOSITY AND DESIRE


EXPRESSION OF CURIOSITY:

EXPRESSION OF DESIRE:
*) Id love to live here.
*) What id really like some tea.
*) I think i would prefer a smaller party.

Example:
Jason: What are you doing Osi?
Osi: I play video games. Im eager to know how to win this video game.
Jason: Osi, i wish i could be your best friend forever.
Osi: Oh really? I wish i could be your best friend too.

EXPRESSION OF COMPLAINING AND MAKING A PROMISE


Complaints are expression of despleasure or annoyance in response to an action that
is seen by the speaker unfavourable. Here are some expression can use to complain :
*) I have a complaint to make...
*) Sorry to bother you but....
*) Im sorry to say this but.....
*) Im afraid ive got a complaint about....
*) Im afraid there is a slight problem about.....
*) Excuse me but there is a problem about....
*) I want to complain about.....
In certain times, we often make a promise to do something. The important thing is use
must not break our promise.
Here are some expressions to make a promise:
*) I promise to you i will do it.
*) I give you my words on that.
*) I swear that i will not do such a mistakr anymore.
*) Im sorry, we promise never to do the same mistake again.
Example:
Operator: Good morning. My name is Lisa. Who am i speaker with?
Burhan: Good morning. Im Burhan.

Operator: Ok Mr.Burhan, can i help you?


Burhan: I have problem with my internet connection.A few days ago i bought
cleverfren internet package,but its not work well.
Operator: Oh, thanks about your complaining, and i promise to you to verify the
constraints that accur on our internet connection network coverage.

EXPRESSION OF SHOWING STANCE


Stace is an expression of intellectual or emotional attitude toward something.
Arguments are usually given to to strengthen ones stance. Here are some utterances
that we can use to express stance:
ASKING FOR STANCE:
*) What do you think of....?
*) What are you views?
*) What is your opinion?
EXPRESSING STANCE:
In formal situation, we can use:
*) Personally i bilieve ..... (Your opinion)
*) My view of .... is .... (Your opinion)
*) From my point of view.... (Your opinion)
*) I absolutely agree with.....
In informal situation, we can use:
*) If you ask me,.... (Your opinion)
*) I guess.... (Your opinion)
*) You know what i think....
Example:
Karin: I think i have to leave Bram. Our relationship is running worse day after day.
Hana: Its surprising to me. What happen?
Karin: I found him with somebody else.
Hanna: What? Who is girl?
Karin: Soffie.
Hanna: What? Soffie? Oh my god. I strongly believed that shes prevert.
Karin: I think so. Thats why i told Bram to choose me or Soffie.
Hanna: Thats good idea!

EXPRESSION OF PERSUADING, ENCOURAGING AND HOPING


Then, a friend comes and give positive support for us. This is one of the values of a
friendship. Dealing with this kind of situation, there are some expressions in english
that we can use to persuade, encourage and hope.
EXPRESSION FOR PERSUADING:

*) Would it be possible for you to.....?

EXPRESSION FOR ENCOURAGMENT:

EXPRESSION HOPES:
*) I do hope that i can buy a house in the future.

Gina: Whas wrong?
Jane: My father got sick. He has to stay in the hospital for a few days to get medical

EXPRESSION OF STATING PLANS,INTENTIONS,AND PURPOSE:

Example:
Librarian: Can i help you?
Aulia: Yes.I am a bit confused.My sociology class is supposed to read a chapter in a
book called sociology and the Modern Age. Do you think I can find if here?
Librarian: Do you have your syllabus with you? May i see it?
Aulia:Yes,uh... i put in the front of my sociology notebook. Oh,here it is.
Librarian: Let me see.Oh yes.Your professor had placed this book on reserve to
ensure that all students have the opportunity to read it. That means . Do you think I
can find if here?
Librarian: Do you have your syllabus with you? May i see it?
Aulia:Yes,uh... i put in the front of my sociology notebook. Oh,here it is.
Librarian: Let me see.Oh yes.Your professor had placed this book on reserve to
ensure that all students have the opportunity to read it. That means you cannot find it
on the shelves in its usual place. You need to go to a special room called the reserve
room. Its down the hall and to the right.
Aulia: Do you believe its interesting to read?
Librarian: You see, your professor wants everyone in the class to read the chapter. So,
its in your interest to read it.
Aulia: Wont it be a waste of time?
Librarian: Cant you be persuaded to read it and find it out?
Aulia: Okey. Ill spend some time in library to have an idea. Thank you.

EXPRESSION OF CRITICIZING
EXPRESSION OF CRITICIZING:
*) Thats so lame, cant you think of a better idea?
*) Not bad. But i think it could be better if you change it a litte.
*) You hand writing needs more shapes.

Example:
Maia: Good morning, Mediatama Company,Maia speaking. What can i do for you?
Computer distributor: Good morning, Maia. How is the computer we upgraded lask
week?
Maia: Well, i got a complaint about it. It works to slowly.

Computer distributor: Im sorry about that. As i informed you, your computer didnt
need upgrading. We should catch up the latest advancement in technology, especially
with computers. Well, i must say, it is out of date.
Maia: What should i do?
Computer distributor: Why dont you buy the latest Pentium Serie?
Maia: Ill consider it, but does it have a warranty?
Computer distributor: Dont worry. Ill give you a two years warranty?
Maia: How about this old computer?
Computer distributor: If you wouldnt mind, you could exchange it with the new one.
Maia: Thank you for your suggestion. However, how if i throw it away?
Computer distributor: If i were you, i wouldnt do that.
Maia: Thank you for reminding me.

EXPRESSION OF PREVENTING

*) No. Dont do that silly thing

*) The way i see it, you should/shouldnt.....

Example:
Ani: Budi what do you think if we go to the cinema tonight?
Budi: Emh, i cant ani.
Ani: Why? You look so sad what happen? Please share it to me..
Budi: I dont know what..
Ani: Oh,come on please tell me i just want to help you to solve your problem.
Budi: Im just confuse i have a long distance relationship,but im afraid with my
girlfriend.
Ani: Oh,calmdown budi,you must trust her, distance is not a big problem if she really
love you. Im sure that she will keep her heart just for you.
Budi: I am uncertain with her.
Ani: So, what you wanna doing then?
Budi: I just wanna end this relationship
Ani: Oh my god, you shouldnt do that.. dont make a stupid decision, you must be
carefully with girls heart. You must give her a chance to prove that she is the one
who can be trusted by you.

Example:

Son: What is he doing now?
Father: Well, it is 9 p.m. now. Im not sure. He could be reading a magazine or a
newspaper. He could be watching tv in this room. He might be preparing something
for a meeting. But im sure that Uncle Jono must be in his room now because he is not
accustomed to going out late at night.
Son: What about tomorrow, Daddy?
Father: Hell probably see his colleagues or perhaps hell have a meeting.
