Format:PaperbackMaster Greg Jones has a very solid and deep understanding of kun
g-fu san soo. It is evident in this well written and very articulate book on one
of the most devastating martial arts currently taught to the public. Master Gre
g Jones ability to translate what he learned from the late Master Al Rubin into
words is testimony to his knowledgable and extremely compentent training. This b
ook will give the uninitiated to kung-fu san soo an excellent starting point on
the art. This book is extremely useful for long time, experienced students of th
e art as a review and referrence manual. I bought this book in 1988 when it firs
t came out, and have since read it five times. An excellent resource on the mart
ial art of Kung-Fu San Soo!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book! June 7, 2000
By A Customer
Format:Paperback|Verified PurchaseI got this book along with many others shortly
after taking san soo classes. And of all the books I've read, this is the best
written book on martial arts. It's clear and precise, and the techniques are VER
Y practical. It's unfortunate that san soo hasn't gotten too much exposure like
the other forms of martial arts, because it can be utilize by a beginner effecti
vely. I would recommend this book even if you are learning other forms of art.

When I was an adolescent growing up in St.Louis in the 1950s it was a wrestling
center and a lot of professional wrestlers trained and competed there. I can sti
ll remember sitting around with my family and watching wrestling on our old blac
k and white TV along with many programs that centered around wrestling..
One of my heros was Lou Thesz and it was always exciting to walk past him on the
street where he would acknowledge all of us kids in our high school letter jack
ets. Lou Thesz' mentor was Ed "Strangler"Lewis.
This book was first published in 1926 and was out of print for years until it wa
s republished in 2008.
After years of interest in various types of Focused Muscular Tension type exerci
se systems I first came across this book in 2011. I had traced the development o
f this type of exercise since it was first introduced to western society by Aloi
s P.Swoboda in the 1800s It was the basis of his "Conscious Evolution" course wh
ich he promoted by means of another invention of his "the mail order physical de
velopment course'.
I found this book extremely interesting as it promoted the mind/body concept usi
ng muscle tension and visualization to project "Vital Energy" to develop the bod
y, mind, and the spirit.
It uses various types of muscle tensing exercises and introduces the use of an e
arly version of the Isometric Power
