RHEL 4 Installation

Note: Please ensure that you have CDs 1 to 5 ready before installation.
1. Insert CD1 in CDROM. Press and hold right CTRL button to boot from CD.
2. Once CD boots, Press enter to use graphical installation mode.
3. Skip testing CD and press Enter.
4. Click Next on the Welcome screen
5. Accept the default language as English and click Next
6. Accept the default keyboard as U.S. English and click Next
7. Select the bullet to Install Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES and click Next
8. Choose automatic partitions and click Next
9. Accept the default option Remove all partitions on the system and click Next
10. Accept the default boot loader GRUB. Dont specify any password for the boot
loader. Click Next
11.Configure Network Settings by specifying HOSTNAME. Click Edit to specify IP
Configuration and click Next (Tip: Always use static IP addressing for servers)
12.Choose No for Firewall option and also Disable SELinux. Click Next. (Keep it simple
for training purpose)
13.Click Proceed on No Firewall Configured warning to go to next screen.
14.Click Next to accept the default for English USA language option.
15.Click Next to accept EST time. Do not check the box System clock uses UDC. (Keep
it simple)
16.Specify the root password and click Next
17.Click on Customize software packages to be installed and click Next
18.Scroll down the page and Click on the Everything bullet to install all packages and
click Next
19.Click Next to begin installation.
20.Installation will begin. Continue providing the requested CDs. At the end, server will
ask for CD1 again.
21.After installation is finished, click on Reboot button to reboot the server
22.After the server comes back up, the system presents a new welcome screen. Click
Next to move to next screen.
23.Click YES to accept the license agreement and click Next
24.Ensure that Date and Time shown on the screen is correct. Skip Network Time
Protocol tab and Click Next (Keep it simple In case you want to configure it, click
on NTP screen and check the box for Enable NTP. Select clock.redhat.com server)
and click Next
25.On Display screen - Accept the defaults or change as required. Click Next
26.On Red Hat Login Screen Click on Tell me why I need to register and provide a Red
Hat logon and click Next (You can choose other option if you have a Red Hat login.
Here you can also configure Network configuration to connect to Red Hat
automatically)
27.Click on I cannot complete the registration at this time and remind me later. Click
Next

28.On create System User screen, create an account for shishya with password
welcome. Click Next
29.On additional CDs screen, Click Next
30.On Finish Setup screen Click Next
31.A graphical login screen appears. Congratulations! Your RHEL4 software is now
installed.
Verifying Your Installation
To check the host name and OS information type the command - uname a
To check your kernel version, type the command uname r (i.e. 2.6.9_42)
