FOREWORD
DEAR INTERNATIONAL GO-KART CHAMPIONSHIP COMPETITORS, FRIENDS AND
ENTHUSIASTS
International Go-Kart Championship is a global student challenge with a mission of encrypting students
with technical as well as practical knowledge of manufacturing a go-kart. This Challenge is a global
platform to show best of the talent to create what participants thought, designed and testing their work on
international level. International Go-kart Championship originated with a purpose to bring students out of
their classes and implement what they learned.
From past two year IGC have been reaching its milestones more than 120+ teams participated in
previous year across the globe.
This year the challenge has been completely modified as per observations from past two years. This year
IGC plans to give each and every team which registers its self for IGC a chance to make vehicle and
bring to the perform. The competition will be undertaken as follows:
PHASE ONE
th
In this part the team will register itself till 30 September 2014 with complete payment of INR 10000 (by
any of methods mentioned in your IGC accounts on www.igc-lpu.com ), the complete registration process
will be done through www.igc-lpu.com the team have to create an account mentioning each every details
as per asked a maximum of 20 member can be in the team. Maximum 200 teams will be allowed to
register.
After the registration process is over team will start making reports and they will have to upload there
reports on their IGC account when the link opens. The team will be evaluated upon their capabilities and
skills to manufacture a go-kart. This round is not a screening round this round helps IGC to see whether
teams who registered for IGC have enough skill set at that point of time to manufacture a go-kart and that
team found with very less skill set will be rejected. The number of teams rejected will depend upon quality
of reports we receive and are not fixed.
The selected team will be sent a review point report card which will tell them where to improve which and
make the best. This makes the competition even tougher to win because each and every team will be
doing its best.
There will be 300 points for the report and the marks will be disclosed during the final event.
PHASE TWO
Now comes the second part and most exciting one in this all the teams will come with their vehicle to
Indias largest University i.e. Lovely professional University where they will present what they have made
during the span of four months. Here they will be tested upon various parameters and they have to even
present their reports in front of judges, the teams which will qualify on all the aspects will finally races in
front of 10000+ audiences live encouraging them to throttle fast and win.

restrictions which a team must not do at all during the whole eventi. Increase engine capacity
ii. Temper the Rated RPM of engine
iii. Modify the internal of combustion cylinder or piston
iv. Maximum speed of the vehicle should be restricted to 80kmph. This must be done by selecting an
appropriate final drive reduction. Controlling speed by throttle will not be allowed.
Note- Positive lock should be provided with the throttle pedal.
Engine Registration
After PFR, all the selected teams will need to register their engines with LSCC and this registration will be
done free of cost. For this registration teams will need to present original bill and papers of the engine on
which the model of engine is clearly mentioned with year of manufacturing, no engine should be engaged in
illegal issues, it may result into disqualification from the event.
Transmission
Shall always be provided to the rear wheels, the method and type is free but any type of differential,
whether through the axle, the wheel mounting hub or by any other means, is prohibited.
Fuel and Position of Fuel Tank
(Give a look to position as engine has its own tank)
To avoid any alterations in the properties of the fuel at the time of race, LSCC will be providing the fuel to
all the teams at the standard market rate. The capacity of the fuel tank must not exceed 8 liters in volume.
The placement of fuel tank should be such that it maintains a proper distance from the engine and also it
18
should not be above the battery. It must be securely fixed to the chassis and be designed in such a way
that neither it nor the fuel pipes (which must be flexible) present any danger of leakage during the event. A
quick attachment to the chassis is strongly recommended. The tank shall in no way be shaped to act as an
aerodynamic device. The tank must supply the engine only under normal atmospheric pressure (this means
that, apart from the fuel pump located, any principle or system, mechanical or not, which may have an
influence on the internal pressure of the fuel tank is forbidden).
It is mandatory to place it between the main tubes of the chassis-frame
Muffler and Exhaust
Concept of Go-Green should be kept in mind while selecting the appropriate exhaust system. In order to
reduce the noise, efficient exhaust silencers are compulsory. The exhaust system shall discharge behind
the Driver and shall not operate at a height of more than 30 cm from the ground.
The noise limit in force is 108 dB/A maximum, including all tolerances and the influence of the
environment. Checks may be carried out at any moment during the event. Any infringement ascertained
during a check in an event can lead to penalty or disqualification.
19
Gantt chart
Gantt charts illustrate the start and finish dates of the terminal elements and summary elements of a
project. Terminal elements and summary elements comprise the work breakdown structure of the project.
This chart is basically the management of the project and distribution of different tasks in the team
members with completion deadlines. The Gantt chart must be attached along with the design report
Design Validation Plan
Design Validation plan is an intensive testing which is performed to deliver objective, comprehensive
testing verifying all product specifications, interface standards, OEM requirements, and diagnostic
command.
Cost Report
Market survey of all the components/systems used in the manufacturing of the vehicle in the form of cost
report must be submitted with the design report. The cost report should be very much elaborative. Each
and every part of the vehicle must be covered in the cost report. The cost of the vehicle must not exceed
Rs.70, 000/- (excluding safety gears) in any condition.
DFMEA
Design Failure modes and effects analysis (DFMEA) is a step-by-step approach for identifying all possible
failures in a design, a manufacturing or assembly process, or a product or service. Failure modes means
the ways, or modes, in which something might fail. Failures are any errors or defects, especially ones that
affect the customer, and can be potential or actual. Effects analysis refers to studying the consequences
of those failures.
Team structure & responsibilities
Team have to distribute workload among them and it must be in way that every of team member will be
given the particular responsibility
Infrastructure Required
Cells/Departments
Machinery Required
Production Plans
Annual Turnover
Initial Investment
Sales and Marketing Strategies
Note: The cost report will be verified the actual cost of the components and systems used in the vehicle at
the time of Dynamic Event. The cost of the vehicle must Rs.70000 (excluding Team Registration, safety
gear and vehicle transportation). The cost of the components/systems mentioned in the cost report must
not vary with that of used in the vehicle. Teams will need to present all bills of material used in the vehicle.
20
Manufacturing Level
Good engineering practice will reflect a great manufacturing level. The vehicle will be examined by the
judges at the time of Dynamic Event, so the participating teams are advised to manufacture the vehicle with
pre-planned strategies so that the vehicle would be able to compete in several tasks and tests.
Discussion (questionnaire)
In the static test event while examining the vehicle, judges may throw questions on any of the team
members. The team members are advised to be prepared with the vehicle. Every team member is required
to have a hard copy of the vehicle documents.
Before the dynamic event there will be TI (technical inspection) which does not carry any points but
is necessary for participating to pass TI in dynamic event. TI will be based on rulebook parameter
and safety checks of the vehicle. The team will be allowed only 3 chances for the TI test failing
which the team will be considered disqualified for the dynamic events.
Innovation
The innovation done in the vehicle in PFR will be discussed with the team and its working will be examined
by the technical inspectors in the respective paddock of the teams. Team needs to present innovation
report at the time of explaining the innovation. The innovation should be working and not just the concept.
Dynamic and Endurance Events
Brake Test (Qualifier)
Its mandatory for a vehicle to pass the brake test to participate in any of the dynamic events. The vehicle
must stop in a straight line after the brake is applied on the vehicle. Each vehicle will be given 4 attempts to
pass the brake test. But in case if the vehicle passes the test in first attempt it will not be given any other
trials.
Note: Vehicles speed must not be less than 40kmph while attempting brake test. Brake Test is not having
any points, but its mandatory for a vehicle to pass the test to go for any of the dynamic event.
Acceleration Test
Acceleration determines the time it takes the vehicle to accelerate along 100 ft (30.48 m) flat course.
Procedure
Each team may make two (2) attempts but with different drivers. Scoring will be based on the better of the
two attempts. Timing may be done using either electronic systems or stop watches.
Penalties
i.
Cones Down or Out- A five (5) second penalty will be added for each cone down or out (including
entry and exit gate cones) that occurred on that particular run to give the corrected elapsed time.
ii. DNF- Vehicles that have not run by the end of the event (determined by the organizer) will receive a
Did Not Finish (DNF).
Acceleration score: Acceleration score = 100x [(TlongestTyours)/ (TlongestTshortest)]
Note: Tshortest is the fastest time by any team Tlongest is either
i. The slowest time by any team or
ii. 2x the fastest time whichever is the shorter interval. Tyours is your teams best time
Skid Pad test
Objective
The objective of the skid-pad event is to measure the vehicles cornering ability on a flat surface while
making a constant-radius turn.
21
Procedure
The vehicles will enter perpendicular to the figure eight and will take one full lap on the right circle to
establish the turn. The next lap will be on the right circle and will be timed. Immediately following the
second lap, the vehicle will enter the left circle for the third lap. The fourth lap will be on the left circle and
will be timed. Immediately upon finishing the fourth lap,
The vehicle will exit the track. The vehicle will exit at the intersection moving in the same direction as
entered. A driver has the option to take a second run immediately after the first.
NOTE: Each team may make two (2) attempts but with different drivers. Scoring will be based on the better
of the two attempts. Timing may be done using either electronic systems or stop watches.
Scoring Formula- Skid Pad score =100x [(TlongestTyours)/ (TlongestTshortest)]
Penalties
i.
Cones Down Or Out- A penalty of 2 seconds will be added to the time for every cone that is
knocked down or out (including gate cones).
ii. DNF- Vehicles that spin-out can continue as long as they have not gone off course but will be
22
classified as DNF.
iii. Incorrect Laps- Vehicles that do not follow procedure, i.e. run an incorrect number of laps or run
the Laps in the wrong sequence will be classified as DNF
Autocross Test
Objective
The objective of the autocross event is to evaluate the vehicle's maneuverability and handling qualities on a
tight course without the hindrance of competing vehicles. The autocross course will combine the
performance features of acceleration, braking, and cornering into one event.
Procedure
The vehicle will be staged such that the front wheels are 6 m (19.7 feet) behind the starting line. The timer
starts only after the vehicle crosses the start line. There will be no particular order of the vehicles to run
each heat. The organizer will determine the allowable windows for each heat and retains the right to adjust
for weather or technical delays. Vehicles that have not run by the end of the heat will be disqualified for that
heat.
Note: Each team may make two (2) attempts but with different drivers. Scoring will be based on the better
of the two attempts. Timing may be done using either electronic systems or stop watches.
Autocross Course Specifications & Speeds
The following specifications will suggest the maximum speeds that will be encountered on the course.
Average speeds should be 40 km/hr (25 mph) to 48 km/hr (30 mph).
Straights: No longer than 60 m (200 feet) with hairpins at both ends (or) no longer than 45 m (150 feet)
with wide turns on the ends.
Constant Turns: 23 m (75 feet) to 45 m (148 feet) diameter.

Slaloms: Cones in a straight line with 7.62 m to 12.19 m Spacing.
Miscellaneous: Chicanes, multiple turns, decreasing radius turns, etc. The minimum track width will be 3.5
m (11.5 feet). The length of each run will be approximately 0.805 km (1/2 mile) and the driver will complete
a specified number of runs.
Scoring Formula- Autocross score = 150x [(TlongestTyours)/ (TlongestTshortest)]
Penalties
i. Cones Down Or Out- Three (3) seconds per cone, including any after the finish line.
ii. Driver must re-enter the track at or prior to the missed gate or a twenty (20) second penalty will be
assessed. Penalties will not be assessed for accident avoidance or other reasons deemed sufficient by
the track officials.
iii. Missed Slalom- Missing one or more gates of a given slalom will be counted as one "off-course" per
occurrence. Each occurrence will incur a twenty (20) second penalty.
Endurance and Fuel Economy
The following are general guidelines for conducting the endurance and fuel economy event. The organizers
reserve the right to establish procedures specific to the conduct of the event at the site.
Endurance Objective (200 points)
The Endurance Event is designed to evaluate the overall performance of the vehicle and to test the
vehicles reliability.
Fuel Economy test (100 points)
23
The fuel economy test is based on the average liters per kilometer fuel economy obtained during the
endurance heat.
Note- The vehicles fuel economy will be measured in conjunction with the endurance event. The fuel
economy under racing conditions is important in most forms of racing and also shows how well the vehicle
has been tuned for the competition. This is a compromise event because the fuel economy score and
endurance score will be calculated from the same heat. No re-fuelling will be allowed during an endurance
heat.
Course speeds can be estimated by the following course specifications. Average speed should be 45 km/hr
to 55 km/hr with top speeds of approximately 70 km/hr.
Procedure
The event will be run as a single heat approximately 27.6 km (12 Laps) long. Teams are not allowed to
work on their vehicles during the heat. A driver change can be made during a two (2) minute period at the
midpoint of the heat. Wheel-to-wheel racing is prohibited. Passing another vehicle may only be done in an
established passing zone.
Endurance Fuel Fill
Before entering the event each vehicles fuel tank must be filled to the fuel level line at the fuelling station.
During fuelling, once filled to the scribe line, no shaking or tilting of the tank or fuel system (incl. entire
vehicle) is allowed.
Vehicle Starting/Restarting
The vehicle must be capable of starting / restarting without external assistance at all times once the vehicle
has begun the heat. If a vehicle stalls out on the track, it will be allowed one (1) lap by the car that is
following it (approximately one (1) minute) to restart. If a vehicle has a restart problem at the end of Driver
Change, it will be allowed a further two (2) minutes to restart the engine. If restarts are not accomplished
within the above times, the car will be deemed disabled and scored DNF for the heat.
Driver Changing Procedure
Elapsed time will begin when Driver A enters the course and crosses the timing line. Driver A will drive for
half of the total laps (6), and pull into the driver change area Two (2) minutes are allowed for the team to
change drivers.
Driver 1 will exit the vehicle and any necessary adjustments will be made to the vehicle to fit Driver B (seat
cushions, pedal position, etc.). Only three (3) team members, including the driver or drivers, will be allowed
in the driver change area, and only the tools necessary to change drivers and/or tires will be carried into
this area (no tool chests etc.). Extra people entering the driver change area will result in a 20 point penalty
to the final endurance score for each extra person entering the area.
Driver 2 will then be secured in the vehicle. The driver change area will be placed such that the timing
system will see the driver change as an extra long lap. Unless this driver change takes longer than two
minutes, this extra long lap will not count. If the driver change takes longer than two minutes, the extra time
will be counted into the final time. Driver 2 will drive for rest of the laps (6) and elapsed time will stop when
the car completes the total 12 laps. Driver 2 will proceed directly to the fuelling station. The tank will be
filled to refill mark and the amount will be recorded.
Vehicle Breakdown and Stalls
If a vehicle breaks down it will be removed from the course and will not be allowed to re-enter the course. If
a vehicle stalls, or ingests a cone, etc., it will be allowed to restart and re-enter the course where it went off,
but no work may be performed on the vehicle. If a car stalls and cannot be restarted without external
assistance, the track workers will push the car clear of the track. At the discretion of event officials, two (2)
team members may retrieve the car under direction of the track workers.
24
Cones Down Or Out- Two (2) seconds per cone. This includes cones before the start line and after the
finish line.
ii. Off Course- For an OC, the driver must re-enter the track at or prior to the missed gate or a twenty (20)
second penalty will be assessed.
iii. Missed Slalom- Missing one or more gates of a given slalom will incur a twenty (20) second penalty.
iv. Penalties for Moving Violationsv. Failure to obey a flag: 1 minute
vi. Over Driving (After a closed black flag): 1 Minute
vii. Vehicle to Vehicle contact: DISQUALIFIED
viii. Out of Order- Running out of order two (2) minute penalty
ix. Mechanical Problem- No additional penalty other than the time lost to ensure that the car is safe to
continue.
x. Reckless or Aggressive Driving- Any reckless or aggressive driving behaviour (such as forcing
another car off the track, refusal to allow passing, or close driving that would cause the likelihood of car
contact) will result in a black flag
xi. Vehicle to Vehicle contact: DISQUALIFIED
xii. Out of Order- Running out of order two (2) minute penalty
xiii. Mechanical Problem- No additional penalty other than the time lost to ensure that the car is safe to
continue.
xiv. Reckless or Aggressive Driving- Any reckless or aggressive driving behavior (such as forcing another
car off the track, refusal to allow passing, or close driving that would cause contact) will result in a black
flag for that driver. When a driver receives a black flag signal, he must proceed to the penalty box to
listen to a reprimand for his driving behavior. The amount of time spent in the penalty box will vary from
one (1) to four (4) minutes depending upon the severity of the offense.
i.
Inexperienced Driver- The Chief Director of Operations may disqualify a driver if the driver is too slow,
too aggressive, or driving in a manner that, in the sole opinion of the event, officials, demonstrates an
inability to properly control their car resulting in a DNF.
ii. Poor Fuel Economy- Mileage exceeding 1 litres/25 km
Endurance Score FormulaEndurance score = 200x [(TlongestTyours)/ (TlongestTshortest)]
Note- Tlongest will be 1.333 times the Tshortest
Fuel Economy
The fuel economy score is based on the average litres per kilometre fuel economy obtained during the
endurance heat.
Fuel Economy Score Formula
If Vyour is less than Vmax then the following equation will be used to determine the fuel
economy score: Fuel Economy Score = 100 X [(VmaxVyours)/
25
(VmaxVmin)]
NOTE- Vmax is equal to 5.2 litres and will be adjusted to represent 1 litres/25 km (9.04 mpg) if the
course is shortened or lengthened. In case, if Vyour is greater than Vmax then 0 points will be given
to the performing vehicle.
Vehicle related
Vehicle Movement
Vehicles may not move under their own power anywhere but on the practice or competition tracks. Off track
vehicles must be pushed at a normal walking pace by means of Push Bar/members pushing the vehicle,
with all four (4) wheels on the ground, a team member sitting in the cockpit to steer and brake and with
26
another team member walking beside the car. During performance events when the excitement is high, it is
particularly important that the car be moved at a slow pace in the pits. Violation of this rule will result
directly into the 25 points penalty.
List of Prefabricated Parts
All the teams have permission to buy the readymade/fabricated parts but use of these parts in excess may
lead to the disqualification of the vehicle or penalty of 200 points.
Shock Absorber, springs, Brake drum, disc, calliper and brake holding assembly, master cylinder, Steering
gear box, Steering column, Steering wheel, Wheel rims & Tyres, tie rod ends, Engine, Fuel tank & exhaust
system.
Flags
BLACK FLAG - Pull into the penalty box for discussion with the Director of Operations or other official
concerning an incident. A time penalty may be assessed for such incident.
BLACK FLAG with Orange Dot - Pull into the penalty box for a mechanical inspection of your car,
something has been observed that needs closer inspection.
BLUE FLAG - Pull into the designated passing zone to be passed by a faster competitor. Obey the corner
workers hand signals at the end of the passing zone to merge into Championship.
CHECKER FLAG - Your session has been completed. Exit the course at the first opportunity.
GREEN FLAG - Your session has started; enter the course under direction of the starter.
NOTE: If you stall the vehicle, please restart and await another green flag as the opening in traffic may
have closed.
RED FLAG - Come to an immediate safe controlled stop on the course. Pull to the side of the course as
much as possible to keep the course open. Follow corner worker directions.
YELLOW FLAG (Stationary) - Danger, SLOW DOWN, be prepared to take evasive action, something has
happened beyond the flag station. NO PASSING unless directed by the corner workers.
YELLOW FLAG (Waved) - Great Danger, SLOW DOWN, and evasive action is most likely required, BE
PREPARED TO STOP, something has happened beyond the flag station, NO PASSING unless directed
by the corner workers
RED AND YELLOW STRIPED FLAG - Something is on the racing surface that should not be there. Be
prepared for evasive maneuvers to avoid the situation. (Corner workers may be able to point out what and
where it is located, but do not expect it.)
WHITE FLAG - There is a slow moving vehicle on the course that is much slower than you are. Be
prepared to approach it at a cautious rate.
Other Penaltiesi. Violation of rules- 100 points/ disqualification
ii. Misbehavior/arguments with officials or volunteers- 100 points/ disqualification
iii. Tampering with TI sticker or making restricted changes in vehicle after TI 100
points/disqualification

Definition of a Kart: A kart is a land single seater vehicle without a roof or a cockpit, with or
without suspensions and with or without bodywork elements, with 4 non aligned wheels that are
in contact with the ground, the 2 front ones of which control the direction and the other 2 rear
ones, connected by a one piece axle, transmit the power. The main parts are the chassis
(including the bodywork), the tyres and the engine.
ii. Data acquisition All systems, with or without a memory, installed on a kart, allowing the Driver
during or after the race to read, indicate, obtain, register, inform or transmit any information.
iii. Telemetry Transmission of data between a moving kart and an outside entity.
iv. Mechanical components Any components necessary for propulsion, steering and braking, as
well as any accessory, whether mobile or not, necessary for their normal functioning.
v. Original or series component Any component which has undergone all the scheduled
manufacturing stages carried out by the Manufacturer of the equipment considered and
originally mounted on the kart.
vi. Composite Material composed of several distinct constituents the association of which gives the
material properties that no constituent taken separately has.
vii. Maximum Greatest value reached by a variable quantity; highest limit.
viii. Minimum Smallest value reached by a variable quantity; lowest limit.
ix. Chassis Global structure of the kart which assembles the mechanical components and the
bodywork, including any part that is interdependent of the said structure.
x. Frame Main supporting part of the chassis, in one piece and receiving the main and auxiliary
parts.
xi. Engine
Cylinder cubic capacity V volume engendered in the engine cylinder(s) by the upward or
downward movement of the piston(s). This volume is expressed in cubic centimetres and, for all
calculations concerning engine capacity, the number pi will be taken inclusively as 3.1416.
V = 0.7854 x d x l x n with: d = bore; l = stroke; n = number of cylinders.
Ducts or passages Ducts or passages are cylindrical or cylindrical-conical elements allowing the
passage of gases whatever the length or position of these elements. Number of ducts or
passages: the number of real ducts or passages is the greatest quantity of cylindrical or
cylindrical-conical elements which transmit gases from the pump casing to the top of the piston,
as well as those which transmit gases from the outside of the cylinder to the inlet ports, or from
the exhaust ports to the outside of the cylinder.
Inlet or exhaust port A port is composed of the intersection of the periphery of the cylinder and
the inlet or exhaust duct. This port is opened or shut by the passage of the piston.
Power valve By power valve is meant any system which can alter by manual, electric,
hydraulic or any other means the normal exhaust port timing or the normal flow of exhaust
gases at any point between the piston and the final exhaust exit when the engine is running.
xii. Radiator: This is a specific exchanger which permits the cooling of a liquid with air.Liquid/Air
exchanger.
xiii. Fuel tank: Any capacity containing fuel which may flow to the engine.
xiv. Wheel: It is defined by the rim with a pneumatic tyre, for the driving or propulsion of the kart.
