SUCCESS IS THE SUM OF SMALL EFFORTS

REPEATED DAY IN AND DAY OUT.

WELCOME
Our Sixth Form has a long history of achievement. This includes
excellent examination results which have allowed students to go
on to top universities and develop very successful careers.
This is an exciting time for us as for the first time, this year, we will
be enrolling girls into our Sixth Form. We are pleased to be able
to offer our excellent provision to a wider group of students.
We recognise that all students will be leaving us to go into a
highly competitive world, so we aim to instil values of resilience
and independence.
We hope that you will take the opportunity to visit the school, speak to the staff and see if our Sixth
Form is the right place for you.
Paul Woodhouse, Headteacher
Here at KNBS Sixth Form we are extremely proud of our Sixth
Formers. It is a great honour to see them grow from children into
adults and prepare for their future.
Sixth Form is about more than just getting A levels; it is about
becoming well-rounded individuals. Here at KNBS we encourage
students to become organised, disciplined and ready for life
beyond GCSEs and A levels.
We believe that success is about a partnership between
students, teachers and parents. The more we all put in, the more
we get out.
We have high expectations of our students, for example: meeting deadlines, personal appearance
through our business dress and showing a willingness to participate. In return students will receive high
quality teaching, support when they need it and guidance on their future.
I hope that you will find the following information helpful as an introduction to our Sixth Form. Please
feel free to contact the school for more information.
Susan Goult, Head of Sixth Form

Reasons for

CHOOSING KNBS
KNBS Sixth Form is popular and dynamic;
many students join us from different schools and
we all work together to prepare our students for
life in the wider world.
The students are taught by specialist teachers
in their chosen subjects, from English to Physics,
from Spanish to Art, our staff are experienced in
teaching Sixth Formers and the opportunities for
learning are boundless.
KNBS Sixth Form is a good choice: We pride
ourselves on our small classes, our wide range
of extra curricular activities, as well as our
support system with dedicated personal tutors
and the Sixth Form team.

A stimulating

CURRICULUM
We are an academic Sixth Form and our
subject choices are designed to give each
student the chance to experience a broad and
rounded education. We offer a free choice of
a variety of traditional A Levels along with a
small vocational offer eminently suitable for the
world of work or for further education.
Lower Sixth students follow a number of
A Level courses appropriate to their aptitude.
We offer General Studies for all students,
as well as Further Mathematics for the most
mathematically able.

High academic

STANDARDS
At KNBS Sixth Form we believe that success is
down to commitment, combined with the efforts
of our staff who work tirelessly to offer support
to our students through engaging lessons and
guided independent study. We expect parents
to play a key part in supporting both the school
and students.
Independent study, self reliance and a thirst for
learning are the skills we seek to develop in our
students and they are encouraged to do their
own reading, make use of study rooms when
not in lesson and embrace all that is on offer
to them.
Our Sixth Form students are role models
for younger pupils. They are expected to
demonstrate exemplary standards of discipline
and present themselves positively through
wearing business dress. Our expectations set
the tone for learning in an environment where
students can develop into well adjusted adults.

An excellent network of

PASTORAL SUPPORT
We place great emphasis on the progress of
each individual student.
Not only is each student taught by a specialist
teacher, but they will also have a personal tutor
who is available every day for guidance.
Students also have the support of a
non-teaching, dedicated Student Welfare
Leader and the Head of Sixth Form.

Preparing our students for

THEIR FUTURE

We place great emphasis on our students next

step after their A Levels.
At KNBS we have a tailored Life Skills
programme which ensures the students make
the right choices for their future be it in further
education or if they seek employment:
We offer guidance from speakers from a
wide variety of professions and universities.
Students receive support from a personal tutor
during weekly tutorials.
They are given the opportunity to visit
University Open Days.
We guide students step by step through the
all-important UCAS process.
We offer accessible reference materials,
resources and prospectus details for post-18
education or employment.
We provide support for personal
statements and interviews, including those
applying to Oxbridge and other Russell
Group universities.

Encouraging our students to be

INDEPENDENT
We pride ourselves on our calm and safe
environment and we always encourage our
students to take advantage of our
well-resourced library, supervised study rooms
and well-equipped computer rooms to deepen
their own independent knowledge in a
welcoming atmosphere.
At KNBS Sixth form we strongly believe in
encouraging our students leadership skills.
Students run their own committees including a
social committee. Furthermore our Head Student
Team also present assemblies to KS3 and KS4
students and represent the school at key social
and school events.

Opportunities for

ENRICHMENT
Participation is of great importance at KNBS.
We encourage all of our students to make use
of the activities and facilities on offer:
KNBS Sixth Formers are encouraged to take
part in sports: we are famous for it and we
have some of the finest sports grounds in
South Birmingham!
Our students volunteer in the local community
and organise charity fund raising events for
both local and national charities.
Students also have the opportunity to be
involved in peer mentoring and can choose
to mentor year 7 students in core subjects
such as English and Maths.
Students regularly take part in senior skiing
trips as well as other outdoor pursuits.
KNBS Sixth Formers are encouraged
to attend specially devised lectures at
Birmingham University, delivered by world
class scholars, to deepen their understanding
of the subjects studies in school.
Our Sixth Form students take part in many
study visits organised by different departments
be it a Geography or Science field trip or a
stay in France for 5 days.
