Brazilian Carnival
The Carnival of Brazil is an annual festival held during the
Friday to the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday, which
marks the beginning of Lent, the forty-day period before
Easter.
Rhythm, participation, and costumes vary from one
region of Brazil to another. In the southeastern cities of
Rio de Janeiro, So Paulo and Vitria, huge organized
parades are led by samba schools. Those official parades
are meant to be watched by the public, while minor
parades ("blocos") allowing public participation can be
found in other cities. The northeastern cities of Recife,
Olinda, Salvador and Porto Seguro have organized
groups parading through streets, and public interacts
directly with them. This carnival is also influenced by
African-Brazilian culture. It's a six-day party. Also in
northeast, Olinda carnival features unique characteristics,
heavily influenced by local folklore and cultural manifestations, such as Frevo and
Maracatu.
Currently in Brazil Carnival is prepared in almost the whole country, but the best known is
the Carnival in Rio de Janeiro, Carnival in Olinda and Recife and Salvador Bahia Carnival.

The Rio Carnival starts around an imaginary game of colors and sounds, fantasy through
the streets, human effort and passion to bring to us the traces of a story that fails to be
told.
It is one of the most important festivals in the world and is given as a combination of joy
and history, because the Carnival eats historical roots.
Carnival consists of sensuality, amazing shapes come together in the Sambadrome and
the various streets of Brazil and colorful costumes and dance to remember a tradition that
symbolizes moments of freedom that were granted to slaves conquerors, and reminds the
Roman celebrations to exalt the arrival of spring.
The first sign of the Rio Carnival is in Roman celebrations. These were held forty days
before Easter, in the same way it is done Carnival in Rio today, and took place in the midst
of parades , traditional dances, costumes, etc. All these elements in the Roman
celebrations were held for generations to come to America by the colonists.
The Rio Carnival gives historical continuity to the tradition, providing it with new elements

story of our culture.
