SCENARIO 1 PLANT VISIT AND TEAM BASED WORK BENCHMARKING

You are to participate in benchmarking activity to one of the manufacturing companies at the
Hoa Khanh Economic Zone. The case company is going to be TCIE Pte. Ltd. This company is
an officially licensed Nissan Cars manufacturing company. To date, this company manufactures
only a single car model which it distributes mostly to Asia and the local Vietnamese market.
Currently, they are operating at around 60% of the plant capacity but is most likely to increase
production volume significantly once the demand picks up.

As it is common to many industries in Vietnam, the management team is composed both of

local and foreign professionals. With almost 500 workers in the plant, most of the jobs are done
through team based approaches which is quite peculiar to manufacturing industries. As the
company by nature and its operations are complex and highly integrated, work planning and
monitoring are very essential considerations. These are the things where you need to focus
once you do the benchmarking. Pay strict attention how the company manages and ensures
successful teams and understand how the management perform their work planning and
monitoring functions. You will be given ample time to observe and sit down with the
management team of TCIE for all your questions relating to team work. In this scenario you are
tasked to;

Assess the benefits of teamworking in Nissan (TCIE) (3.1)

Assess, analyze and explain the factors involved in planning and monitoring and
assessment of work performance
(4.1)
Plan and deliver the assessment of the development needs of individuals in Nissan
(4.2)
Evaluate the success of the assessment process that you have done

(4.3)

leading teams. You will change roles from being a leader and a member is several
games. You will be marked based on your performance separately as a leader and as a
member. We will use a 360 degree method of evaluation. This means that you will be
observed using the same parameters by your lecturer, your team mates, your
competitors and by yourself. You need to gain a weighted mean score of 6 to pass this
task. Refer to the score sheet below to understand how you will be assessed. In this
