Context: People were denying that Jesus was and is

the Christ and were leaving the community of

believers.

1 John 2:22

Who is the liar but he who denies that Jesus is the

Christ? This is the antichrist, he who denies the
Father and the Son.

It is no different today. The different cults and

sects that have attempted to incorporate the
“gospel” into their beliefs have only changed their
names over the last two thousand years. Polytheism
(the belief in gods) has brandished a bible, put on
a nice suit, and has been riding across town in the
form of Mormonism.

The Jehovah's Witnesses don't believe what Jesus

said about Himself is true and trust that He is a
mere angel. Nothing more, nothing less.

Adoptionism = Jesus was born human and then became

divine (similar LDS)
Arianism = Christ given everything EXCEPT divinity
Donatism = Perfectionists.
Docetism = Jesus's body was an illusion. He did not
really die.
Ebionism = Jesus is the messiah, but not divine.
Rejected Paul and His epistles and viewed James as
the head of the church.
Euchites = You can only know God through your
carnal senses. Perfection through prayer.
Marcionism = Rejected the Hebrew Bible and Yahweh.
Montanism = Prophecies spoken by their group
SUPERseded the Bible.
With All the heresies and our own doubts, how can
you be assured of eternal life?

What is the new birth?

How do we know we love God?

How do we know that we are saved?

1. Regeneration.

Regeneration means: To Make Alive.

1. Ephesians 2:5 (dead in sin)(grace comes)

(alive in Christ)
2. Colossians 2:13 (dead in trespasses)
(forgiveness given)(alive in Christ)

Regeneration occurs only twice in the New

Testament.

1. Individual Regeneration in the New Birth or

being Born Again
2. Titus 3

3. For we ourselves were once foolish,

disobedient, led astray, slaves to various
passions and pleasures, passing our days in
malice and envy, hated by others and hating one
another. But when the goodness and loving
kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved
us, not because of works done by us in
righteousness, but according to his own mercy,
by the washing of regeneration and renewal of
the Holy Spirit
4. Corporate Regeneration of the New Heavens
and the New Earth
5. Matthew 19:28
6. Jesus said to them, “Truly, I say to you, in
the new world, when the Son of Man will sit on
his glorious throne, you who have followed me
will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the
twelve tribes of Israel.

Context: Peter is telling Jesus that the disciples

have given up house and home and Christ Himself
promises that Christians are going to experience
the new Heaven and the new Earth.

IT IS WORTH IT TO FOLLOW JESUS.

It is through God's grace that we believe that the

man Jesus is the incarnate Son of God or Christ.
That God has come down from Heaven to dwell among
us as the only God-Man. Do you trust in this with
all of your heart, mind, and soul?

It is not a question of whether all the

implications of this faith are happening right now
in your life. Christians get depressed and lose
hope, Christians don't always love their neighbors
as they should, Christians don't always immediately
obey His commandments, but Christians ARE
Christians.

When all else fails, when your world crumbles, when

you suffer persecution for who God has called you
to be, when you stumble in sin and when NOT IF you
doubt whether or not Jesus Christ speaks the truth
consider this.

He (Jesus Christ) is the propitiation (means of

forgiveness) for our sins, and not for ours only
but also for the sins of the whole world.

In many movies featuring sailors on the sea, a

great storm will come and will threaten the
security of the ship, the trust of the crew that
the ship will arrive where it's going safely, and
cause doubt. What happens is that sailors will tie
themselves to the mast of the ship so they are not
tossed overboard by the screeching wind and the
pounding waves.

Look down at your waist, are you tied to the mast?

Do you believe that Jesus of Nazareth is God? Do
you believe that He was sent from Heaven to be born
of a virgin, live an immaculate life, die a bloody
death, and rise again so you too may glorify God
and enjoy Him forever?

If you believe this, you have been regenerated or

born of God. If you believe this, the Bible makes
the promise that you will overcome the world.

1st verse: Everyone who believes that Jesus is the

Christ has been born of God

4th verse: For everyone who has been born of God

overcomes the world.
O Holy Night.

Truly He taught us to love one another, His law is

love, and His gospel is peace.

2. If you Love Jesus = you Love God and you

will Love Neighbors

1 John 3:18

Little children, let us not love in word or talk

but in deed and in truth.

Love walks, talks, and breathes.

Do not say you love your brother when you do

nothing for him.

Christ did not say “I love you, but.” He said, “I

love you and I'm going to take away your sins by
dying on the cross.”

Matthew 22:34-40

But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced

the Sadducees, they gathered together. And one of
them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him.
“Teacher, which is the great commandment in the
Law?” And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord
your God with all your heart and with all your soul
and with all your mind. This is the great and first
commandment. And a second is like it: You shall
love your neighbor as yourself. On these two
commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”
Loving God is obeying His commandments, Love God
with all your heart, soul, and mind. Love your
neighbor as yourself.

Okay, I know I should love God and neighbor.

And I know that I should love God but in what way?

1st Corinthians 13

Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or

boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not
insist on its own way; it is not irritable or
resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but
rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things,
believes all things, hopes all things, endures all
things.

2nd By this we know that we love the children of

God, when we love God and obey his commandments.

4th For everyone who has been born of God overcomes

the world.
3. OBEY THE COMMANDMENTS

Commandments obeyed show love for God.

Obeying your parents shows your love for them,

obeying God is the same way.

GET THIS

Christians view the Law differently than Non-

Christians.

Paul describes Sinners (who we used to be) in

Romans 3.

For we have already charged that all, both Jews and

Greeks, are under sin, as it is written:
“None is righteous, no, not one;
no one understands;
no one seeks for God.
All have turned aside; together they have become
worthless;
no one does good,
not even one.”
“Their throat is an open grave;
they use their tongues to deceive.”
“The venom of asps is under their lips.”
“Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness.”
“Their feet are swift to shed blood;
in their paths are ruin and misery,
and the way of peace they have not known.”
“There is no fear of God before their eyes.”
Now we know that whatever the law says it speaks to
those who are under the law, so that every mouth
may be stopped, and the whole world may be held
accountable to God. For by works of the law no
human being will be justified in his sight, since
through the law comes knowledge of sin.

TO THE SINNER the Law: Stops the sinner's mouth, no

excuses, no justifications, nothing. No one will be
free from the judgment of the Law.

When Sinners get what the Law is, they will

understand sin, and their need for a Savior.

TO THE CHRISTIAN

You have dealt well with your servant,

O Lord, according to your word.

Teach me good judgment and knowledge,

for I believe in your commandments.

Before I was afflicted I went astray,

but now I keep your word.

You are good and do good;

teach me your statutes.
The insolent smear me with lies,
but with my whole heart I keep your precepts;

their heart is unfeeling like fat,

but I delight in your law.

It is good for me that I was afflicted,

that I might learn your statutes.

The law of your mouth is better to me

than thousands of gold and silver pieces.

3rd verse: For this is the love of God, that we keep

his commandments. And his commandments are not
burdensome.

1st everyone who loves the Father loves whoever has

been born of him.

4th verse: For everyone who has been born of God

overcomes the world.

4. The Victory With Christ

For everyone who has been born of God

overcomes the world.

1. Believing Jesus is who He says

He is
2. Loving God and Loving your
neighbor
3. Joyous Obedience to His
Commandments

And this is the victory that has overcome the

world—our faith.

The word for overcome in the Greek is nikos.

Means Nike = The Greek Goddess of Victory

1 John 2:13: Overcome the evil one – from death to

life
1 John 4:4: Overcame the false prophets – from
lies to truth

Faith is the MEANS by which we overcome the world.

Our Faith? Individual (meaning you) and Corporate

(meaning our) faith in Jesus.

Faith in Jesus Christ and His love He has shown

towards us on the cross by dying for our sins. He
is victorious over sin and so are we.

Conclusion

We are born of God (and therefore will overcome the

world) IF...

1. we believe that Jesus is the Christ that He

is who He said He is
2. we love God and we love neighbor
3. we obey His commandments

the above are evidences of the new faith, us being

born again, if we have these things in our lives
rest assured we are born again and we will overcome
for Christ has overcome.
