Earthquakes And

Volcanoes Project

Objective: You will be researching and reporting on a notable


historical Earthquake, Volcano or Tsunami

Project Criteria: You will be creating a Power Point Presentation


about the specifics of your Earthquake,
Volcano or Tsunami.
For full credit, the presentation must include

Size: Five slides minimum (does not count title slide)


Title: Name of your Earthquake, Volcano, Tsunami
Date: Date of the Earthquake, Tsunami, or eruption of volcano.
Damage: How much damage did the event cause?
What kinds of things were damaged?
How much money in damage did it cause?
Deaths: How many deaths did the event cause?
How many injuries?
Type: If Earthquake, or tsunami what plates were involved, what type of
boundaries were involved? What size on the Richter scale?
Where was the epicenter?
If Volcano, what type of volcano is it? Could it erupt again? What
plates are involved? What type of boundaries were involved?
Pictures: A minimum of three pictures, of YOUR earthquake, tsunami or
volcano. They can not be the same pictures.
Data: A minimum of three tables, charts, diagrams, pics etc… about the
earthquakes, volcanoes or tsunamis in general. These can
be used to describe the “type” and give general information
about that type.
Special: Some interesting fact that is special about your Earthquake, tsunami
or volcano that has not already been mentioned elsewhere in
your presentation.
EC: Extra credit (up to 5 pts) for including hyperlinks to informational sites,
video clips, or animations (I can show you if you would like)
Sources: An ADDITIONAL slide (does not count as one of the 5) with all of
your sources listed on it. You must have a minimum of 3
sources

Power point will be graded on completeness, accuracy and detail.


The more you put into it, the better your grade.

DO NOT CUT AND PASTE WORDS FROM THE INTERNET INTO


YOUR PRESENTATION. ALL INFORMATION MUST BE IN YOUR
OWN WORDS.

DO NOT SPEND A TON OF TIME ON “BELLS AND WHISTLES”


TRANSITIONS, SOUNDS AND ANIMATION OF WORDS ARE
NOT AS IMPORTANT AS CONTENT.

Presentations are due on Wed April 16th. There will be limited class
time to get this done, if you are not finished in class, you will have
to finish at home, in the computer lab, or here in room 230 after
school.

DO NOT WAIT TO THE LAST MINUTE! DO NOT TELL ME THE


DAY BEFORE THE PROJECT IS DUE THAT YOU CAN NOT STAY
AFTER THAT DAY TO FINISH! WORK ON IT NOW!

BE CREATIVE! But remember that creativity does not replace facts


and details.
