Technology Lesson Plan
EDU 5170
Content Area: Biology
Topic: Cell Organelles

Content Area Standards:

NYS Living Environment Performance Indicators
o PI 1.2f Cells have particular structures that perform specific jobs. These
structures perform the actual work of the cells.
o PI 1.2i Inside the cell a variety of specialized structures, formed from many
different molecules, carry out the transport of materials (cytoplasm), extraction of
energy from nutrients (mitochondria), protein building (ribosome), waste disposal
(cell membrane), storage (vacuole), and information storage (nucleus).
Technology Standards
ISTE Student Standards
o Standard 6- Technology Operations and Concepts
a. Understand and use technology systems
b. Select and use applications effectively and productively.
Lesson Objectives
1. Students will be able to, through the use of a webquest and Internet game, identify
and describe the organelles within a plant and animal cell.
a. This will be assessed with a formative assessment worksheet completed at
the end of the period.
Lesson
A. Introducing the Learning Activity
a. The teacher will handout the days activity packet. The teacher will introduce
the learning activity by telling the students the importance of cell organelles
and making authentic connection. The introduction will include a joke to
grab the students attention as a hook.
B. Provide Information
a. The teacher will go through the packet with the students. The teacher will go
through the packet step-by-step. After each important step, the teacher will
ask at least 2 students to repeat the directions as to check for understanding.
b. The information provided here would allow the students to jump right into
the days activity without any questions.
c. The students will begin the activities in the packet.
d. The first activity is a simple webquest which will bring them to a website
showing diagrams and descriptions of the organelles within a plant and
animal cell. The students will fill out questions within the packet.

C. Provide Practice
a. The students will then play an Internet based game that will help reinforce
what they learned in the webquest.
b. This will provide the practice the students need in order to solidify the days
lesson.
D. Provide Knowledge of Results/Review the Activity
a. The teacher will bring all of the students back together once everyone has
completed the game.
b. The teacher will review the activity in a group setting by asking students to
go over their answers in the packet. The teacher will call on students as a
check for understanding.
E. Method of Assessment/Closing
a. In the back of the packet will be a worksheet the students will complete as a
formative assessment. The formative assessment will act as an opportunity
for the teacher to judge how the students have learned. The students will
hand in the assessment at the end of the period.
