Tannehill catches fire late

Peterson hearing
will be Monday

Touchdown passes to
Gibson, Landry push
Dolphins past Bills
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla.
Ryan Tannehill shook off five
sacks and a third-quarter deficit, throwing for two late
touchdowns to help the Miami
Dolphins break a streak of
three consecutive losses to Buffalo with a 22-9 win Thursday.
Tannehill went 26 for 34 for
240 yards and threw touchdown passes of 7 yards to Brandon Gibson and 8 yards to Jarvis Landry. Lamar Miller
rushed for 86 yards for the Dolphins, who trailed 9-3 before
outscoring Buffalo 19-0 over
the final 18 minutes.
The Dolphins improved to
6-4, their best record after 10
games since 2008. The Bills,
trying to end a 14-year playoff
drought, fell to 5-5 with their
second loss in a row.
Miami had scored one
touchdown in 33 possessions
against Buffalo before late TD
drives of 80 and 63 yards.
Tannehills TD pass to Gibson gave the Dolphins a 12-9
lead after three quarters.
It was only the third offensive touchdown in the MiamiBuffalo series this season,
through seven quarters.
Dan Carpenter kicked three
field goals for Buffalo, including a 46-yarder with 6:26 left
in the third quarter his
eighth field goal this season
against Miami, his former club.
Tannehill and the Dolphins
answered with a nine-play, 80yard drive, the score coming on
what appeared to be a broken
play with Gibson wide open in
the middle of the end zone.
And the defense added to
the lead about a minute later,
when Buffalo quarterback Kyle
Orton under pressure from
Miamis Olivier Vernon was
flagged for intentional grounding from the end zone for a
safety that put Miami up 12-9.

scoring, and the Bills were last

in red zone touchdown efficiency.
Neither side did much to
help those numbers in the first
half. Miami got a field goal after getting to the Buffalo 9 on
the games opening drive, then
Tannehill fumbled the ball
away at the Buffalo 13 on the
Dolphins second possession.
And the Bills racked up 31
plays and 152 yards on their
first two series, but settled for
only the two field goals from

Carpenter.
After those two drives, Buffalo had only one touchdown
in its last nine red zone trips.
The Dolphins finally broke
through with 2:18 left in the
third, cashing in after Tannehill connected on a 32-yard
gain to Brian Hartline that put
Miami on the Buffalo 16.
Miller rushed for nine yards
on the next Miami play, and
Tannehill found Gibson for the
lead after the ensuing snap.
The Dolphins were also
playing for the first time this
season without left tackle
Branden Albert, who went on
injured reserve earlier in the
week with a right knee injury.
The Bills were without running backs Fred Jackson
(groin) and C.J. Spiller (collarbone). Bryce Brown started in
Jacksons place.
The Dolphins wore aquaon-aqua uniforms for the first
time since 2004.

Running back will

make reinstatement
case on conference call
NEW YORK Adrian Peterson will have a hearing via
conference call Monday about
possible reinstatement with
Minnesota.
The hearing will be handled by Shyam Das, an arbiter
used by the NFL and NFLPA
under the collective bargaining agreement.
Through the players
union, Peterson entered a
non-injury grievance regarding when his paid leave is supposed to end. Lawyers representing the union and the
NFL will discuss the grievance.
Peterson has been on the
commissioners exempt list
since Sept. 18 following his indictment for felony child
abuse. He pleaded no contest
last week to a lesser charge of
misdemeanor reckless assault,
freeing him from the court system provided he fulfills his
probation terms.
Also last week, the union
demanded in a letter to the
NFL that Peterson be allowed
to rejoin the Vikings immediately until any discipline has
been determined. But the
NFL began a review under the
personal conduct policy, and
said Peterson would remain
on paid leave until the process
is completed.
It also came to light Thursday that the players union
wants to negotiate with the
league to change the personal
conduct policy.
In a memo sent to each
NFLPA player representative
and executive board member,
and obtained by The Associated Press, the union cited the
NFLs mismanagement of
several incidents, including
the Ray Rice and Peterson

cases.
The memo contends the
league has inconsistencies
that have led to the lack of credibility and damage to our
brand.
The union says the league
has not complied with the labor agreement reached in 2011
in regard to personal conduct
discipline. The memo mentions imposed superficial
changes to the adjudication
process, apparently referring
to Commissioner Roger Goodell installing stronger punishment for first-time offenders.
An NFL spokesman noted
in an email to The Associated
Press that the personal conduct policy and its predecessors have been in place since
1997. They have never been the
subject of collective bargaining
and the union has never before
claimed that they should be.
Bowles gets extension:
Arizona defensive coordinator
Todd Bowles confirmed that
he has signed a three-year contract extension that runs
through the 2017 season.
The extension wont preclude Bowles, a former Cowboys secondary coach (200507), from taking a head coaching job.

AROUND THE LEAGUE

Denver: The Broncos
placed MLB Nate Irving on
season-ending injured reserve.
Irving (44 tackles, including
six for a loss and a sack) was
having the best season of his
four-year career when he tore
his right MCL at New England
on Nov. 2.
Houston: Coach Bill
OBrien said running back Arian Foster, who is second in the
league with 822 rushing yards,
will be a game-time decision
after Foster (groin strain)
missed practice for the second
straight day.
