Bucket of 1.0 Cu.M capacity, suitable for working in coal seams of thickness 2.0
Mtrs. and above. The Bulk Density of coal is to be taken as 0.86 T/Cu.M. The SDL
should have DGMS approval to work the machine in under ground gassy Mines.
Standard Height SDL should be suitable for Coal seam of thickness 2.0 M and
above, Low Height SDL should be suitable for coal seam of thickness 1.5 M and
above.

Main Features of SDL:

A.

The machine should be fitted with wide track shoes and extra large tracks for
ensuring stability and low ground pressure that enables the machine to negotiate
gradients upto 1 in 4 and cross gradients 1 in 6 . The machine should be fitted
with grouser track pads and track should be suitable for working in severe
under ground conditions.

B.

The tracks should be hydraulically powered through suitable hydraulic motors &
reduction gear boxes. Each right and left tracks should be independently
powered.

C.

Fail safe brake should be provided for the tracks so that the machine will stand
even in the inclined position in the gradient of 1 in 4.

D.

Turning of the machine should be done through independent drives for tracks, by
blocking or reverse rotation of crawlers.

E.

The speed of the machine should be smoothly controlled by hydraulic control

valve. Zero to Maximum speed should be obtained by operation of control
levers with less effort. The speed of the machine should be same in both the
directions of the travel.

F.

All track parts of the machine should be guaranteed for minimum working of
3,000 Hrs.

Loading Boom & Bucket :

G.

The machine should be equipped with loading boom and 1.0 Cu.M bucket for
collection of coal from the face, carry and unload on to a coal tub / Chain or belt
conveyor . The height of the boom should be suitable to unload coal into tubs up
to a height of 1.5 M.

H.

The side discharge chain bucket should be bi-directional, suitable to unload coal
from either sides of the machine. The chain should be double out board, fitted
with suitable flights, hydraulically powered with suitable hydraulic motor.

I.

The attachment and detachment of the bucket for changing the direction of
unloading should be quick and easy. It should be carried out easily at the coal
face.

J.

The break-out force of the machine should be around 4500 Kgs for Std-height
around 3000 Kgs for LH SDL enabling the machine to fill the bucket in one
stroke.

K.

The boom should be fitted with suitable hydraulic cylinders for lifting ad rolling
back.

L.

All the operation of the loading boom and buckets should be through hydraulic
control valves. The loading boom & bucket should be guaranteed for the life of
the machine.

3.DETAILS ABOUT SDLs:(SIDE DISCHARGE LOADERS)

INTRODUCTION
With the changing scenario of modernization it has become necessary to modernize
Coal Mining in SCCL. At present most of Underground mines in SCCL have gone
in to more than 200 mt to 300 mt depth. To reduce the physical fatigue of the Coal
Fillers who are being exposed to the freshly exposed faces, it is proposed to
introduce intermediate Technology. SDL is one answer. At present about 100
SDLs are working in SCCL .
The SDL machines being utilized are Track Mounted Electro Hydraulically Operated,
Side Discharging Bucket Loaders. These Loaders collect Coal from Coal Face and
discharge it on to Belt Conveyors / Tubs. These machines can work on 1 in 4
gradients at maximum speed of 2.75 KMPH.

DIFFERENT MODELS OF SDLS

In SCCL two companies have supplied their machines M/s Eimco Elecon (I) Ltd
and M/s Simplex Engineering Corporation.
1. Eimco Models :
SDL 625 with Cable Reeling
SDL 625 with out Cable Reeling
SDL 611 Low Height
2. Simplex Engineering Co Models :
D113 / 1000 with Cable reeling
D137/1000 Low Heigh Machine

3. M/s BEML also developed one SDL and woking at GDK 10A under trial basis.

NOTE:

All SIX control levers are self centered by means of springs and the speed of
operation is directly proportional to the amount of the movement of the control
levers.

When the machine is not being used these control levers are to be locked with
the lock levers to prevent the accidental movement of the same.

BUCKET:
It is fitted with one fixed plate on one side and hinged door on the other side to
enable it to discharge on one side only and the coal can be discharged on the other
side by reversing the arrangement and it is also fitted with a conveyor chain which
will be driven by the hydraulic motor.

LOADING AND DISCHARGING

As the machine having sufficient weight and adequate power, DO NOT make a
long run at the muck pile.

Hence, dig the bucket into the muck pile and move the machine forward side by
pushing the traction control levers gently as required.

As soon as the machine stalls, roll back the bucket and again move forward to
continue to collect the coal. Maintain the rolling and thrusting operation until the
bucket is full and clear off the muck pile, raise it to the carry on position.

Position the loader for discharge:

Efficient loading depends on the closeness of the discharge point to the muck
pile. The machine travels back a minimum distance with minimum of
maneuvering .

DO NOT STALL THE MACHINE FOR MORE THAN A SECOND OR TWO TO

AVOID UNDUE HEATING OF THE HYDRAULIC FLUID.

SIMILARLY, DO NOT STALL THE HYDRAULIC RAMS BEYOND THEIR LIMITS

FOR MORE THAN A SECOND OR TWO OTHER WISE, THE HYDRAULIC
FLUID GETS HEATED UP.

THE ABOVE OPERATIONS LEAD TO PREMATURE

THE HYDRAULIC OIL.

NEVER USE THE BUCKET TO SCALE THE ROOF / FLOOR / FACE / SIDES
OF THE GALLERY, SINCE IT CAN DAMAGE THE MAIN LIFT RAMS OR THE
BUCKET .
