Fats That Can Save Your Life
EFA’s help you burn excess fat, restore health to the cardiovascular system, relieve
arthritis pain and inflammation, and strengthen the immune system. If you have ever
been on a diet, then you have undoubtedly become accustomed to dread the word
“fat”; however, not all fat is bad for you. There is the “bad” fat that collects on your
body and clogs the arteries and then there is the “good” fat – also known as
Essential Fatty Acids (EFA’s).
“Bad” fats can harm you.
EFA’s should not be confused with the saturated fat found in red meat, butter,
cream, milk, and cheese and trans fats (also known as hydrogenated oils) found in

Omega-3 in fish oil have been documented in countless studies in the U.S. and
Welcome 14 Europe.
Be a GOOD bad Guy 15 Omega-3 is crucial for people concerned about heart disease.
Women in Combat 16 Eskimo natives of Greenland caught the attention of Danish researchers sixty years

ago. Dr. H.O. Bang and his team from the University of Alborge in Denmark
observed that Eskimos consumed large amounts of fatty ocean fish, which are
loaded with Omega-3. They were astonished to learn that of the thousands of
Eskimos they examined only a few showed mild signs of heart disease. In fact, heart
disease is so rare among the Eskimos, they don’t even have a single word in their
language to describe it! The Danish study prompted widespread U.S. studies to
further evaluate the incredible therapeutic effects of Omega-3 oils found in fish.
Vanderbilt University researchers studied the effects of Omega-3 on hypertension
(high blood pressure). They confirmed that Omega-3 significantly lowered high
blood pressure. According to The Nutrition Desk Reference by Dr. Robert Garrison and Dr. Elizabeth Somer, research of
Omega-3 showed that it helped vision problems, yeast infections, psoriasis (a skin disease), migraine headaches, and
even rheumatoid arthritis. What’s more, researchers at the Mayo Clinic concluded that Omega-3 supplementation also
slows the progression of kidney disease. The other “good” fat which works in partnership with Omega-3 is Omega-6. The
most significant benefits of Omega-6 include ensuring fat regulation and energy distribution (which aids in weight-loss),
reducing the intensity of PMS symptoms, and treating alcoholism and schizophrenia. The highest concentration of
Omega-6 is found in borage oil, followed by safflower oil. In addition, Omega-6 assists Omega-3 in reducing all kinds of
inflammation, lowering LDL cholesterol and promotes optimal immune function. Regular supplementation of Omega-3 and
Omega-6 have therapeutic effects on chronic illnesses and conditions. By the same token, being deficient in either
Omega-3 or Omega-6 is a potential risk for chronic health problems.
Page 2
In summary, the following are just some of the ways that the two families of EFA’s, Omega-3 and Omega-6, can benefit
you:
Burn fat: Helps the body eliminate excess fat. Provides significant amounts of energy to your heart and other organs,
which in turn boosts metabolism and increases fat burn-off.
Prevent Heart Disease: Dramatically reduces the risk of heart disease by providing a slippery protective coat on the walls
of the arteries, thus inhibiting plaque from sticking to arterial walls.
Relieve Arthritis Pain and Inflammation: Extremely effective in relieving the symptoms of arthritic conditions by
suppressing inflammation without irritating the gastrointestinal tract with drugs.
Calm Digestive Disorders: Keeps the inflammation of Colitis and Crohn’s disease under control and decrease damage to
the colon wall.
Fight cancerous growths: Helps prevent cancer from growing by blocking cells that nourish the cancer.
Reduce symptoms of PMS and Menopause: Help relieve the drying of vaginal and bladder tissues in menopausal women,
which helps ward off urinary tract infections. Also helps relieve symptoms of premenstrual disorders including breast pain,
premenstrual tension, bloating, depression, and irritability.
Block Symptoms of Migraine Headaches: Effective in helping decrease the frequency and intensity of migraine attacks
over time. Regular consumption of fish or fish oil supplements have positive long-term effects on brain chemistry.
It’s amazing how EFA’s provide an array of significant and varied health benefits. Because EFA’s are essential for every
cell in every tissue of every system in your body to function properly, it is not surprising that they have enormous
recuperative and preventive effects on chronic disorders.
Are you getting enough EFA’s in your diet?
In order to get the proper levels of EFAs in your diet, the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) advises us to eat at
least six servings of fish a week. This does not include fried fish since the high temperature of frying causes the EFA’s to
become rancid. Since eating 6 servings of fish is not practical for most people, daily supplementation offers an easy and
effective way of getting proper levels of Omega-3 and Omega-6 to support optimal health. EFA’s are absolutely necessary
for optimum health! Everyone should be getting enough EFA’s on a daily basis, but just as important you should be
getting the proper balance of Omega-3 and Omega-6. Master Omega Oils™ contains recommended amounts of both
Omega-3 and Omega-6 oils. Plus it contains natural vitamin E derived from soy to prevent rancidity. Even if you eliminate
all the saturated fat and trans fats from your diet, you could still be at risk for serious health problems – resulting from
damaged nerve cells and reduced immune function – if you do not get enough Omega-3 and Omega-6. Deficiencies in
Omega-3 and Omega-6 essential fatty acids have been linked to serious health conditions, such as:
By supplementing your diet with Master Omega Oils™, a new EFA complex by Great American Products, you will be
getting a continuous supply of both Omega-3 and Omega-6 in a specific ratio for optimum benefits. Master Omega Oils™
contains purified oil from the body of cold-water ocean fish such as cod, halibut, mackerel and tuna, which provide the
highest concentration of Omega-3. It also contains borage seed and safflower seed oil, both of which provide high
concentrations of Omega-6.

What Were They Thinking?
Part Two
How many times have you gone to watch a self defense demonstration and seen a
technique that was very inefficient or just flat out wouldn’t work and though to yourself,
“What were they thinking?” This month I have one such technique for your amusement.
Now the fact is any of this stuff can work if given the right scenario. So in fact this
technique can work. Here’s the problem. There are just many techniques that will
work much better for these situations. The biggest problem I see out there isn’t that the
techniques don’t work for the attack shown. It’s that the attack is unrealistic or at the
very least will only happen an extremely low percentage of the time. I even
see intructors nconsciously taking some cool move they like and inventing an attack
Paul Green to make the move work which is pretty nuts. I’m sure many of you out there can think of
STONEWAL TACTICAL alot of other techniques you can see problems with and offer solutions to them. I do

So what in the world am I demonstrating here is it: A) How to squat to take a dump in the woods?
B)How to put Dolly Parton’s big boobs in a headlock C)Demonstrating an unrealistic street attack
common taught in training hallsThe correct answer of course is B.... no just kidding it’s C. If it was B I wouldn’t admit it
anyway. However you see this alot in traditional dojos and even some nontraditional as well. Notice that I’m basically
doing a horse stance which kind of lends itself to the theory that alot of these schools only teach techniques to defend
themselves against other people who do the same thing they do not what is actually going to happen.
Page 7
This is usually shown static with no movement as well. The excuse used is that they show it still first so the student can
get the proper technique down. The problem is the instructor never takes it up a notch so the student never really
progresses realistically with the technique. Now let's look at the awesome defense shown for this attack that probably isn't
going to happen.
Ok so in the travesty above the attack grabs my head and just stands there in a perfectly erect horse stance with me in a
headlock. I reach over my shoulder and put my fingers under his nose to pull his head back and take him down. There are
many things wrong with this technique and on many levels but we'll only cover a few in this article.
First of all this is the position your more likely to see. The attacker isn't going to be
straight up and down because it goes against what they are trying to accomplish,
which is to throw you to the ground and beat the crap out of you. Grab someone's
head in a horse stance and try to move dynamically that way and bulldog them to
the ground. It feels pretty awkward and your balance isn't very good is it? It would
feel awkward to an attacker too which is why they won't do it. Remember they are
moving very fast and hard to throw you to the ground it happens quick. You may
even be getting punched in the fast during this as well or have to defend against
it.
Notice above I try to reach over the shoulder and go up under the nose or even another part up there. It's a natural
human reaction to turn away from pain. It is the most likely thing the attacker will do when this technique is attempted.
When he does that I then have no technique and if he torques
his hips to his right I'm gone on the ground getting my face beat in. Some say you could hook the neck but what they don't
seem to understand is depending on how your head is torqued the shoulder of the arm your using may be forced outside
it's normal range of motion making the arm very weak and unable to apply the pressure to pull off something like that.
Page 8
Let's look at a couple solutions and talk about
them. First of all the obvvious one to me is to
take your fist and rack his balls then pull your
head out and start the beatdown. However for
whatever reason some people aren't
comfortable with that I'll offer another solution.
In the top left picture I step around
his body quickly and fluidly with my left foot. I
do this as soon as he takes this schoolyard
headlock I don't wait to do it. I then drop at a 45 degree angle to my left and throw him backwards over my right leg. It
sounds complicated for beginners but it is a very easy takedown. The momentum carries you on top of
the attacker as shown in the other to pictures. Now you don't have to stay on top of them as I did you can do a foot stomp
or any technique of your choosing to finish but make sure your time on the ground is very short. I've talked to some guys
who don't like this technique because they don't want to go to the ground even for this fraction of a second because of the
worry of a multiple attacker situation. To them I want to make this point. 40 perecent of all violent attacks are multiple
attacker. People who are standing up get attacked every day. When a group of people want to attack you they aren't
going to wait til you hit the ground to jump they are just going to attack you. If someone has you in a headlock while
someone else is beating you it is my belief that you will be aware of it. They aren't just going to form up out of the grass
simply because your on the ground. Though as I said earlier you only have to be on the ground for a fraction of a second
and you don't have to stay there. I'll be the first person to say the ground is definately not somewhere you ever want to be
in a fight on purpose or otherwise. For God sakes I was a heavyweight champion in sport jiu‐jitsu and I won't go to the
ground on purpose myself for any extended amount of time. I do think it's fine in the case of a singular attack and this is
why. Some people like to push the side of the head then try to pull there head out but even they admit if the guy is bent
way over then that wouldn't work either you would need to do something else. Here is my problem. I may be very well off
balance or getting my face punched. I may not be able to see. yet I'm supposed to know the exact angle this guy is bent
forward so I'll know which technique to use? There isn't time for that. The technique shown above works no matter how
his body is bent it even works for the fantasy headlock we debunked earlier. It just plain works no matter what and it's
quick and efficient. The time your on the ground is very very minimal. Basically just the amount of time it takes to do a
backroll back up to your feet and that's it.
So that's why I like this technique. He grabs that head you just step and go then finish him off. As mentioned earlier you
could also rack the balls which I have no problem with and if it IS multiple attacker you better believe I'll be racking some
balls myself As always thank you for taking the time to read this article. If
your teaching a bad attack I hope this article has made you think about what your doing. If I'm preaching to the choir then
I hope everyone got a good laugh out of it.

Three United States Navy SEALs, accused of punching terrorist suspect Ahmed
Hashim Abed while in custody, are facing Court Martial. The SEALs, Petty Officer 2nd
Class Matthew McCabe, Petty Officer Jonathan Keefe and Petty Officer Julio Heurtas,
have all hired civilian lawyers and deny abusing the prisoner in any way. The terrorist
that these Navy SEALs are accused of punching is believed to be the mastermind
behind the bloody murder of four U.S. civilian contractors. After the contractors were
killed their bodies were hung from a bridge in Falluja Iraq. One of the men killed was a
former SEAL. Check out the video below showing what the SEALs do and the
dangers they face when they deploy. According to the stories, here, here, and here,
Abed accused the SEALs of punching him in the face and kicking him after his
capture. To support the accusation the terrorist showed a bloody lip. Are you kidding
me? A bloody lip? I understand that our soldiers have an obligation to humanely treat
anyone they capture, but this is past the point of being absurd, and becoming
dangerous for our troops. Honestly, if all this guy got after murdering four U.S.
citizens, and planning attacks on soldiers, is a bloody lip then I say he got off pretty
easy. I’m not saying that we should torture prisoners, but we shouldn’t treat these guys with kid gloves either. My question
is when only one side of a conflict is “playing by the rules” why should the other side place themselves at an obvious
disadvantage, and put themselves in danger. I think more of these terrorists need to be punched in the face. The three
SEALs ought to be given a medal for not completely pummeling this guy. What kind of message are we sending to the
enemies when we do something this stupid? I give a lot of credit to these men for wanting the case to go to trial. They
could have simply opted for a “Captain’s Mast” which is like an administrative proceeding. The men denied punching the
terrorist so they are forcing the prosecutors to put on their whole case. If they are convicted they could face up to a year
behind bars. What are we doing when we begin trying to jail the brave men and women who are on the front lines of
keeping our country safe? Are we really going to believe the word of a terrorist who has murdered at least four U.S.
citizens and most likely has participated in the planning of many more attacks against U.S. citizens in Iraq over these
highly trained Navy SEALs? If we do then we’re all in a lot worse shape than anyone could ever imagine. What is the
justification for these charges? Surely they would have to have more than the word of a terrorist before they pressed
charges. I simply cannot accept the fact that these heroes are being brought before a court of law to face criminal charges
for something this stupid. Is it any wonder that the military has a hard time recruiting these days? I know I wouldn’t want to
work for a company that pulled something this asinine. So, these Navy SEALs, accused of punching terrorist Ahmed
Hashim Abed, in my opinion deserve a promotion. To me it is a disgrace that these men have been forced to hire
attorneys and defend themselves against prosecution from the very government they have risked their lives for. What do
you think? I say give them a medal, and God bless all of our servicemen and women who give so much so we can be
free.

mysterious numbers over to training horses! I await news from the flea circus! These
are some common examples of how the "3,000 to 5,000 reps" concept has
permeated and fermented into the professional training psyche. Sound like a lot of
reps, even for horses and fleas. But, it can get worse, one of my student's physical
trainers told him it took 8,000 repetitions to adequately learn a new physical move.
Now we are up to 8,000! I know not this mysterious trainer or from where this new
number originates, just that he is out...working and prosthelitizing. For a common
citizen, this seems like an unimportant statistic except for sports coaches to ponder,
but to a professional trainer of police, soldiers, and security specialists the idea of
implementing 3,000 or more of repetitions is overwhelming given the budgetary
restraints of training time and money. Expectations are lowered. Courses are
dumbed down to ape man level, all under the crushing idea that a single physical
tactic will take 3,000 to - now 8,000 - repetitions to become effective. Quote these

examples, the 3,00 to 5,000 stats follow the opening layman remarks, "everyone knows that...," or "it has been said," or "It
has been determined." All warning flag statements to me. Well, I had to ask myself, "Where do these magic numbers
actually come from?" Ever the skeptic of dogma, I took a deeper look. I learned that while many layman hear these
numbers regurgitated, few if any know the true story and facts behind them and guess what? When you do discover the
truth? Almost every layman is wrong. The root study, the industry standard research that experts refer to comes from a

updated book editions called Performance and Motor Control And Learning with Dr. Timothy D. Lee, along with a rotating
collection of new research studies. I urge everyone in the training industry to read these books. The good doctors have
many medical and psychological eggs to fry in these volumes as they cover lab tests, sports, injury recover, performance
enhancement and challenges involving the handicapped. They are often used as college textbooks. In Motor Learning,
Dr. Schmidt states with a flurry of charts and studies that it requires approximately 300-500 repetitions to develop a new
motor pattern. Conversely, once bad or inadequate habits are already in place, he states it takes about 3000-5000
repetitions to erase and correct a bad motor pattern. Layman readers and regurgitators please take note, 300 to 500
repetitions, not thousands. Hundreds. For some reason, many trainers and writers have latched on to a reverse
misunderstanding of this study. "Layman readers and regurgitators please take note, 300 to 500 repetitions, not
thousands."

Approximately. About. Most. Three words always gingerly placed in and around all statistical studies. Next comes my
anecdotal approximate/about/most position based my own personal teaching experience. I shall start with the
aforementioned, warning-flag phrase, "everyone knows" but I do strongly believe that "everyone really knows" that people
come in all shapes and sizes, strengths and skills. In the last two decades I have taught hand, stick, knife and gun tactics
to thousands of people worldwide. As I look over a crowd of practitioners in seminars now, I am well aware that each
student will have a different, learning repetition ratio. One might really "get" something with only 75 reps, another person
may take 6,000. Another, even 10,000. Thus, these statistical means and averages are created inside a broad continuum.
I myself, with black belts in several martial arts, have noted that I can obtain a healthy, working knowledge on a new
takedown or movement within about 150 exercises. But, start me on ice skating and it will take decades.
No matter how long or short it requires to first burn a pattern into one’s muscle memory, all skills are perishable and need
to be exercised with some frequency that is - once again, different for each person. Generalized means studies for the
masses may be established as general guidelines for such refreshment. Remember, the "masters" be they in golf,
cooking, baseball, piano, or karate...practice forever. The Masters lose count and just practice for practice sake. That's
why they are masters. Do I believe wholeheartedly in these Schmidt numbers? No. I think they are high for both new and
correctional training. But, such individuality aside, we have leaned here that some respected experts report the averaged
numbers 300 to 500 repetitions are needed to learn something new, not 3,000 to 5,000. I remain fascinated that no one
questioned these low or high numbers and I remain fascinated that so many people picked the wrong end of this study to
quote and re-quote! Look at the pessimistic results of their error. Yes, you can train new people, or people new to a
certain movement, with a mere ten percent of time and effort that the previously abused layman figures suggest. Ten
Percent! Trainers! Start your engines! You may now pick up the towels you've previously tossed in abject surrender!

When you train scenarios- "be a good bad guy."
Do you want to look good or train for a real fight/ situation? Most of us strive to
improve and that can only come with stress in our training. Additionally, if we don't
train with an actual 'bad guy' we are cutting our training short. What is a bad guy (in
training)? Be a good bad guy is a phrase and Trademark coined by Tony Blauer.
This is what he says:

WOMEN IN COMBAT
By Mrs.Traylor
First I would like to thank all the brave and extraordinary women serving in the
military, and lawn force and, those that have died for our freedom and for what they
believe. I considered myself very lucky, having a choice to study martial arts, but
there is always a questions about should women be doing what men are doing?
That is a question that has been broken a long time ago, starting with Alice
Stebbin, first women police officer.

Women in Combat
There’s a disconnect between what U.S policy says. What female soldiers can do
and what they are actually doing; this needs to change so that they can get the
training they need.
Women at Arms: Beyond the wire
For females soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan, experience on the ground is outpacing
official military policy. Even near military bases, female veterans who served in Iraq
and Afghanistan aren't often offered a drink on the house as a welcome home. More
than 230,000 American women have fought in those recent wars and at least 120
have died doing so, yet the public still doesn't completely understand their
contributions on the modern battlefield. For some, it's a lonely transition as they struggle to find their place.

The deaths of three women -- two Marines and one
sailor -- and the injury of 11 other female Marines in
an attack in Iraq last week not only raises questions
about the role of women in combat, but suggests
that the U.S. military may be guilty of willful denial, if
not strategic negligence. Put another way, American
women in Iraq are dying unnecessarily.
And no, I'm not suggesting that men should die
necessarily, but that women who are not supposed
to be in or near combat are being placed in
situations that increase the likelihood of death or
injury.
Obviously women soldiers, sailors and Marines are
sometimes injured or killed because they are
unavoidably "in harm's way." War is imperfect after
all. But other times, harm's way is avoidable, as was surely the case last Thursday when a convoy carrying mostly women
was attacked in Fallujah by a suicide car bomber and gunmen.
While the women's deaths may not be more tragic than others' deaths -- certainly not to those who have buried their sons
-- we are left wondering why the women were in places where they could be so easily killed.
The convenient response is that this war has no clear "front lines," that military women are bound to get caught in the
crossfire. In Thursday's case, the women were going to a checkpoint where they were to search Iraqi females out of
respect for Muslim sensitivities. Every vehicle and person entering Fallujah is searched as the U.S. tries to ensure that
insurgents are kept out.
page 16
Having women instead of men search women makes perfectly good sense, but why American women? Why not raise our
exquisite sensitivity to the next level and employ Iraqi women to search Iraqi women?
Elaine Donnelly of the nonprofit Center for Military Readiness, who has put that question to the Pentagon, says that even
though Marine women were authorized to be at the checkpoints, the Pentagon apparently didn't adequately think through
the implications of placing women at such vulnerable posts.
Some observers wonder whether the convoy was targeted specifically because it was known to be carrying women. More
buck for the bang, if you're a suicide bomber. If the goal is to undermine U.S. will and commitment to the war, the twisted
mind might think, what better way than to kill their women?
Donnelly is more critical of Army procedures that have placed women at high risk in ways that are not officially authorized.
She and Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, last month questioned the
Army policy of "collocating" women with its infantry/armor land combat battalions. Again, translated, this means putting
women who perform various auxiliary, non-combat roles near enough to combat as to be in harm's way.
Which is clearly against Pentagon policy. To change the policy -- or to seek an exception -- requires that the secretary of
defense notify Congress 30 legislative days (or about three month's real time) in advance. No such notice has ever been
given, says Donnelly. Instead, the Army has been assigning women to forward-support companies that previously were all
male while the Pentagon rearranges organizational charts to make the rules seem inapplicable.
Donnelly is blunt in her appraisal that this sleight of hand is not only subterfuge, but unfair to women who enlist in the
military in the belief they won't be near combat. Jessica Lynch, where are you?
To reiterate, the Marines and the Army are not one and the same. The Marines apparently were following rules when the
women Marines were attacked by the suicide bomber. The Army, on the other hand, is bending rules to send women
where men are supposed to be.
All of which forces the tough question: Do we really want to put our women at this level of risk if it's not necessary? The
rules against placing women in combat still stand, but the slope is looking a bit slippery. As the lines between combat and
non-combat become blurred, so do the roles of men and women in the military.
The battle for civilization may not be lost in Fallujah or Kabul, after all. When we decide to willingly put our nation's
mothers -- whether future or of the moment -- in harm's way, we may already have lost the war.
