1. The appellants X and Y, father and son respectively, had an encounter with the
deceased D, in which D received several wounds. D ultimately died of his
injuries. D had received, together with minor wounds, a very severe wound on
the right leg and a very severe wound on the back. The postmortem report
suggested that the death might have been caused solely by the leg wound.
There were conflicting versions of the eye-witnesses as to who (X or Y) gave
which blow.
The case is put up for trial and you have to decide the liability of both X and
Y. Take the help of leading case law on the point.
Or
Discuss the doctrine of mens rea in statutory offences with the help of Indian and
English case law.
2. Impossibility of both kinds, factual and legal, appears to be immaterial in
deciding the question of attempt.

3. The state government has acquired land of certain farmers in public interest for
construction of a dam. The land acquisition has been carried out in accordance
with the prevailing law. However, a small section of the farmers is not happy with
the whole exercise and they are not ready to part with their land unless paid
compensation in excess of what is prescribed in law. Seven such farmers join
together and start a sit-in on their land declaring their intentions not to leave their
land unless their demands are met.
Police cracks down on all the seven persons and takes them into custody. What
charges under IPC could be levied against the seven farmers when they have not
resorted to any violence. Elaborately discuss the relevant law.
