subscriptions. The Laura Bush Foundation is unable to honor requests for staffing, shelving, furniture,

26. Every school, school population and school library is unique. What distinguishes your
school, your school population and your library? Particularly address any condition in the
school, community or student population that demonstrates a unique and compelling need
for books. What role does your school library play in addressing your students needs?
Our school serves a dynamic group of students with a large number of African, Hispanic and American
students. This dynamic group of students is in need up to date non-fiction books written from a

variety of sources. Most of the student come from low social economic homes with limited access to
internet resources. A solid collection of books written on a k-5 grade level would grant access for
students to check out books to gain the vital knowledge needed to be successful in class.
This answer is limited to 500 words.
27. Give a broad overview of the strengths and weaknesses of your library as well as a
description of your library collection improvement goals:
Our media center strives to provide the most current and update resources to support our students
and staff. We have a vast collection of easy picture books for students and a growing collection of
Common Core print and digital resources for faculty. We are currently, looking to provide a more
extensive amount of STEM related books to incorporate into our collection. Science and Math are areas
of weakness for our school, so we would like to provide as many materials as possible to support the
initiative to improve student achievement in that area.
28. How much money (up to $7,000) are you requesting from the Laura Bush Foundation to
fund your proposal? Please use whole numbers only; no commas, decimals, or fractions:
*$

5000

29. What specific library need(s) are you addressing with this proposal? How will specific
student groups or school programs benefit from the Laura Bush Foundation grant? *

The Laura Bush Foundation grant would support the need for more Math, Science, and Technology
literature in our media center collection. The school has recently initiated the Imagineers STEM CLUb.
Which provides students to participate weekly in STEM activities weekly. The media center has
challenge for students to read "How to make" books and video themselves experimenting. This grant
would allow greater accessibility of differentiated STEM books that would reach a more students. The
science books would be used to support academic learning. The math books would be used to help
connect the content being learned in class to real life situations.
30. Describe your proposed categories of materials and allocation of grant money to meet
the specific needs described above:
Note: (a) you may not request anything other than books or magazines, and (b) if your plan includes
purchasing eBooks or any other electronic materials, indicate in what ways and how easily your
students will be able to access them.
The allocation of grant money would fund a collection of K-5 print & digital Science and Math literature
that aligns to the Georgia Common Core Standards. Students will have accessibility both in the
classroom and at home to the eBooks through Macinvia, which is our eresource library for Fulton
County schools. 50% of the books would be easy readers and the other 50% would be aligned for 3-

5th grade students. 80% of the allocation will be devoted to print based books and rest would be
ebooks used along with the classroom kindles.

31. How does your library collaborate with the school community to address student needs?
How does the school library program promote collaboration among members of the school's
learning community? *
We are actively seeking more ways to collaborate with our community based resources. However,
within our school the library media specialist meets weekly with each grade level to brainstorm ways
to promote student literacy. Within those meetings, the media specialist and teachers collaborate on
upcoming events, club activities and author visits. This year the media center has plan to host a read
with a parent day, donuts with dads, character day, the Scholastic book fair, and parent information
sessions.

32. If you do receive a grant to implement your proposal, how will you measure and
evaluate its impact on the students, the library and the school? *
The media center will monitor the circulation of the new inventory to evaluate the rotation of the
material. The school data from the students SLO's scores and the semester benchmark assessments
will be evaluated and compared to previous data. In addition, the students' scores from the Georgia
Milestone assessment will be evaluated for increased performance.
33. If your school is selected as a recipient of a Laura Bush Foundation grant, do you agree
to participate in the Foundations evaluation program?
Yes
No
34. If your school is selected as a recipient of a Laura Bush Foundation grant, do you agree
that information from this application may be used for publicity to promote the goals of the
