The Deepwater Operations Conference and Exhibition 2014


This years Deepwater Operations Conference and Exhibition at the Moody Gardens
Convention Center was hosted by, among others: PennWell, NALCO Champion, Chevron,
Royal Dutch Shell, Anadarka, Coastal Chemical Co. LLC, and HESS. This years theme was
Exploring the Operational Depths since the deepwater game is always changing and becoming
more challenging as we increase depths, pressures, and rewards we also increase risks,
personnel, and budgets. The conference spanned a series of 4 days and included many diverse
topics such as exhibits, speakers, golfing, and coffee breaks and mixers for those 21 years and
older.

Monday
On Monday, exhibitors were allowed to move in and set up their exhibits and booths.

Tuesday
On Tuesday, exhibitors continued moving in and setting up. For those whose exhibits
were ready, there was a friendly golf tournament at the Moody Gardens Golf Course. The golf
tournament gave companies the chance to meet with their customers and co-workers in a funfilled day on the golf course. After that there was an opening plenary session about Water
Injection Philosophy and Design Concepts Panel, Overcoming Firsts and a Steep Operational
Learning Curve on the Tahiti Waterflood, and Shenzi Water Injection. Tuesday closed with
an Opening Night Reception.

Wednesday
After continental breakfast, The keynote plenary session was opened by Robin Dupre, Sr.
Technical Editor of Offshore magazine. The Chairmans Opening Remarks was presented by
Craig Sherer, operations manager for Deepwater Projects for Chevrons Deepwater Exploration

and Projects Business Unit. The keynote presentation was presented by Eric Sirgo, general
manager of major capital projects for Chevron. Following a coffee break (hosted by HESS),
Session 1 was an hour and a half of Rigs VS. Rigless Interventions which included
presentations covering Light Well Intervention on the Norwegian Continental Shelf, Tahiti
Well Stimulation Program, Riserless Lower Abandonments at Viosca Knoll, and Modern
Subsea Field Support Vessels Advance Rigless Intervention Capabilities.
After lunch, Session 2 was about Integrity Management which covered subsea repairs
and maintenance, development and implementation of pressure system risk based integrity
management within offshore Gulf of Mexico, and asset integrity/process safety management
system.
Following another coffee break (hosted by Shell) was Session 3: Panel Discussion
Project Operational Readiness which focused on the need to have a robust process in place to
deliver a project to the receiving business unit. The intent is to achieve seamless and successful
transition to normal operations following project completion. After that was the Sustained
Operational Excellence at Olympus followed by networking reception.

Thursday
After continental breakfast, Session 4: Regulatory Compliance commenced with
Maximizing Life Expectancy of a Floating Production Unit: A Coast Guard Perspective and
The USCG inspection for Certification Process.
Following another coffee break (hosted by Shell), Session 5: Flow Assurence
commenced with discussion on Successful Remediation of Hydrate Blockage Within the
Cascade and Chinook Gas Export Systerm and Hydrate Inhibition in Long Subsea Tiebacks,

followed by Low Dosage Hydrate Inhibitor Experience. The conference ended on Thursday
with an awards ceremony and closing remarks followed by the exhibitor move-out.
