Unit Title: Geometric Measurements and Dimensions

Name: Nshan Zeitounian

Content Area: Mathematics

Grade Level: 10th grade and above

CA Content Standard(s)/Common Core Standard(s):

-

Give an informal argument for the formulas for the circumference of a circle, area of a circle, volume of a cylinder, pyramid,
and cone
Use volume formulas for cylinders, pyramids, cones, and spheres to solve problems
Identify the shapes of two-dimensional cross-sections of three-dimensional objects, and identify three-dimensional objects
generated by rotations of two-dimensional objects
Know that the effect of a scale factor k greater than zero on length, area, and volume is to multiply each by k, k^2, and k^3,
respectively; determine length, area and volume measures using scale factors
Verify experimentally that in a triangle, angles opposite longer sides are larger, sides opposite larger angles are longer, and the
sum of any two side lengths is greater than the remaining side length; apply these relationships to solve real-world and
mathematical problems

Big Ideas:

Our main focus will be finding formulas for two-dimensional and three-dimensional objects. Extending these ideas for solving realworld and mathematical problems. Students will be able to identify which formula to use and how it is used. Also, find length and angle
sums for triangles, and identify their similarities
Unit Goals and Objectives:

Identify and find the formulas for two-dimensional and three-dimensional objects
Apply these formulas to solve real world math problems
Identify similarities in triangles and determine their length and angles

Unit Summary:

Students will learn how to find the area and volume of objects to be able to solve problems. We will use these formulas to solve real
world and mathematical problems. Be able to determine the difference between two-dimensional and three-dimensional objects and

their formulas. We will also find the relationship between angles and side lengths of triangles
