funding for UK/EU arts and humanities research students



The Midlands3Cities Doctoral Training Partnership will be awarding 410 PhD studentships over a five
year period to excellent research students in the arts and humanities. The DTP, a collaboration
between the universities of De Montfort, Nottingham, Nottingham Trent, Leicester, Birmingham and
Birmingham City, provides research candidates with cross-institutional mentoring, expert
supervision including cross-institutional supervision where appropriate, subject specific and generic
training, and professional support in preparing for a career.

The History subject area at De Montfort University, which includes the Photographic History
Research Centre (PHRC) and the International centre for Sports History and Culture (ICSHC) is
inviting applications from students whose research interests include:
Modern History in the following areas:
o Immigration and Interethnic relations
o History of Food
o Frist and Second World War
o Agrarian and food security
o Modern British-Jewish History
o Modern Southeast European/Balkans
o Politics of Nationalism
o Modern India and Pakistan
o South Asian Diasporas
Sport and Leisure History
Photographic History

As well as projects in the key research areas of History and Sports History, we welcome applications
which address core History topics in relation to the specific Research Centre interests of Sport and/or
Photography
