Offering a fascinating look at a worldwide phe-
nomenon, this compendium of stories and photos
follows the “You Are Beautiful” movement that
began simply with 100 stickers printed in 2002 in
Chicago that has since evolved into block-long
murals, public installations, and more than one
million stickers in circulation. Told through never-
before-heard accounts and stunning images, it
starts with the very small beginnings and follows the
project through 10 years of growth. Shedding light
on the incredible journey of this message of positiv-
ity, this album demonstrates how “You Are Beauti-
ful” has touched lives on every continent in the
world, including Antarctica.

The Memory Book

One Woman's Self-Discovery in the Mist of the Austro- Hungarian Monarchy

Linda Fischer

Found in an antique store while the author was on a short vacation to Budapest, the small leather book—filled with watercolors, drawings, and mes- sages—turned out to be a memory book. At the turn of the 20th century, many Eastern European girls kept memory books as keepsake albums in which to record advice and remember special events. This particular one contained evergreen truisms and aphorisms written to the the book's owner, Amálka, when she visited places that few Americans know. Driven by curiosity and concern, the author undertook a multiyear journey into the heart of Old Europe and deep into centuries of art, history, and war. The result is a personal exploration of Austria-Hungary and the countries divided up by the Peace Treaty of Trianon at the end of World War I. Here she spreads a message of love in our time and helps Amálka's story live on.

Mastering the Art of McTavishing

Second Edition

Karen McTavish

Expanded and completely revised, this book is the perfect companion for longarm, sit-down, or hand quilters to add a simple but beautiful background filler to their quilting repertoire. Dubbed "McTavish- ing" after its creator, it has become the most popu- lar new design concept in quilting today. As shown in the extensively illustrated projects, McTavishing may be added to any quilt or garment, from wholecloth to contemporary art quilts, and done by hand, domestic machine, or longarm tech- nique. The book's how-to chapters demonstrate the uses of the McTavishing stitch—as an addition to an open quilt block, in a border, to highlight complex applique, to custom tailor a favorite garment, or as part of a larger overall design— while the accompanying DVDs provide lessons from the author. Accompanied by interviews with accomplished hand and domestic machine quil- ters, this guide offers readers an unparalleled view of the exciting new quilting process. This edition boasts revised how-to chapters, new graphics, new text, and a simpler teaching method. Additional pages feature new quilts and quilters as well as a new section on modern quilting styles.

Filled with stories and anecdotes collected over a
long and fascinating wrestling career, this autobi-
ography offers a rare, inside look into a popular
sport by someone who was there. Chris Curtis was
a “job man,” a specially trained worker hired to put
a main event wrestler like Jake “the Snake” Roberts
or Jerry “the King” Lawler over. Curtis’s ring persona
was that of a “heel” (the bad guy), who bent the
rules, cheated, and did everything he could to de-
feat his “baby face” (the good guy) opponent. Be-
fore he turned pro, Curtis wrestled Victor, a 600
pound black bear, in front of 6,000 people at the
Milwaukee Sentinel Sports Show in 1978. He learned
how to be a job man at the old Federation Hall on
Milwaukee’s south side. He began taping matches
for the All-Star Wrestling television show less than a
year later. Curtis began wrestling for Minneapolis-

based promoter Verne Gagne in 1979. He also worked for “Cowboy” Bill Watts in the Mississippi and Louisiana territories, and for Vince McMahon Jr.’s World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) out of New York City. He’s suffered broken hands, cracked ribs, bruised kidneys, dislocated knees and several concussions in his chosen profession, all without regret.

This collection of endearing, heartfelt stories is from an NCAA Division I basketball coach who overcame life’s everyday obstacles—poverty, violence, bullying, and heartbreak—to find success on and off the court. North Carolina Central University head coach LeVelle Moton shares personal stories to help inspire and motivate. Looking back at his adolescent years, where he was an outstanding athlete, he shares tales about life that relate to sports, while not always di- rectly involving action on the playing fields. Stories deal with making wise choices, overcoming failure, abstaining from sex, finding mentors, and prepara- tion. Every chapter has a takeaway for readers in the “Inside the Locker Room” and “Chalkboard” sections. Rather than developing the next superstar athlete, Moton is more interested in teaching life’s hard lessons. He looks back at his relationships with his grandmother and mother, strong women who helped him navigate a turbulent childhood. He shares stories about growing up without a father and reflects on several mentors he found as a young man trying to find his way. His stories are sincere, funny, and humbling. They take an honest look at growing up struggling with the world working against you and finding a way to the life you dreamed for yourself. The book is moving for adults and poignant for youth, informative for basketball fans, and relevant and en- gaging to all. As part of the authors' ongoing commit- ment to support youth in their community, a portion of proceeds from all book sales is being donated to the Boys & Girls Club of America.

The clothes may not make the woman, but they certainly help! This is the story

The clothes may not make the woman, but they certainly help! This is the story of one woman’s life- changing journey to overcome grief and loss. It is a testament to a daughter’s love for her mother and the unique bond between siblings. Megan O’Malley Moller lost her mother to cancer at age 16. One of six siblings, she grew up in a strict Irish Catholic family in Ohio. In adulthood, she and her siblings all settled in different parts of the country. Each year, Megan and her sisters, Helen and Fiona, go on a girls’ trip with their dear friend Suson Fuson. Known for her impeccable taste, Megan provides The Collection, an assortment of items from her wardrobe, which all of the women share for the weekend. In the 25th year after their mother’s death, the women visit her grave in Dubuque, Iowa. The purpose of the trip is to find emotional healing and closure after their many years of grief. Megan, espe- cially, carries misplaced guilt and anger, and her sisters insist that this trip is her chance to face her loss and embrace what is left of her own life. The endearing and comical relationship between these four women, and the love they share, proves to be the greatest gift their mother gave them.

Reimagining the Greek Gods of Olympus and plac-
ing them on modern Earth, this urban fantasy novel
focuses on Plato Jones, who, after a stint with the
Olympic Bureau of Investigation, is through with
the Gods and their political games. While at first
glance the Gods of Olympus are as different from
one another as salt is from sugar, and despite their
bickering, they share a universal bond, a thread
of commonality that unites them: they’re all jerks.
Against Plato’s protests, he’s drawn into a murder
investigation where the murderer’s targets are the
Gods themselves. Plato has cracked some tough
cases: exposing cheating spouses, capturing trea-
sonous heretics, and hunting three-headed dogs,
but this time he’s in over his head. How can he
solve a crime that’s impossible to commit? And
what chance does Plato—a mere mortal—have
against something powerful enough to kill a God?

Fifty years ago, the Commander came into power and murdered all who opposed him. In his warped mind, the seven deadly sins were the downfall of

society. To punish the guilty, he created the Hole,

a place where sinners are branded according to

their sins. Sinners are forced to live a less than human existence in deplorable conditions, under the watchful eye of guards who are ready to kill anyone who steps out of line. Now, Lust wraps

around my neck like thick, blue fingers, threatening to choke the life out of me. I’ve been accused of

a crime I didn’t commit, and the Hole is my new

home. Constant darkness. Brutal and savage violence. Excruciating pain. Every day is a fight for survival. But I won’t let them win. I will not die in the Hole. I am more than my brand. I’m a fighter. My name is Lexi Hamilton, and this is my story.

Thyra Winther is 17, the Snow Queen, and im- mortal, but if she can't reassemble a shattered enchanted mirror by her 18th birthday she's doomed to spend eternity as a wraith. Armed with magic granted by a ruthless wizard, Thyra schemes to survive with her mind and body intact. Unencumbered by kindness, she kidnaps local boy Kai Thorsen, whose mathematical skills rival her own. Two logical minds, Thyra calcu- lates, are better than one. With time rapidly melting away she needs all the help she can steal. A cruel lie ensnares Kai in her plan, but three missing mirror shards and Kai's childhood friend, Gerda, present more formidable obsta- cles. Thyra's willing to do anything—venture into uncharted lands, outwit sorcerers, or battle enchanted beasts—to reconstruct the mirror, yet her most dangerous adversary lies within her breast. Touched by the warmth of a wolf pup's devotion and the fire of a young man's desire, the thawing of Thyra's frozen heart could be her ultimate undoing.

The hunt is on! Sixteen-year-old Bree Sunderland must inject herself with an untested version of her father’s gene therapy to become a werewolf in order to stop a corrupt group of mercenaries from creating a team of unstoppable lycan- thrope soldiers. When Bree went with her scientist father to Ireland, she thought it would be a va- cation to study bog bodies. She never expected to fall in love with a mysterious young Irishman and certainly never expected to become the kind of monster her father said only existed in nightmares. Dr. Sunderland discovers that lycan- thropy was not a supernatural curse but rather

a genetic mutation. When they return home,

her dad continues his research, but the military wants to turn that research into a bio weapons program and rogue soldiers want to steal the research to turn themselves into unstoppable killing machines. Bree’s boyfriend Liam surprises her with a visit to the United States, but there are darker surprises in store for both of them. As evil forces hunt those she loves, Bree must become an even more dangerous hunter to save them all.

"Predator is a fast-paced, creepy page-turner! Bashman had me at the opening sentence and she's still got me. I want more!" — Nancy Holder, author, The Rules

For hundreds of years, dark clouds covered the skies of Adamah, and an ageless king ruled. Those who emerged with one of six extraordinary Shay powers were forced into the king's army, an unmatched force with inhuman Strength, Speed, Accuracy, Perception, Empathy, and Healing. With the army at his side, the king—a man who wields all six abilities—was invincible and unques- tioned in his rule. To most, serving the king was an honor. And for some, it was a fate worse than death. When 17-year-old Nolan Trividar witnesses the transformation of his brother from kind to cruel after entering the king’s army, he vows never to follow the same path. So when his own power— the Shay of Accuracy—comes upon him at the Tournament of Awakening, Nolan conceals his emergence instead of joining the king’s ranks. For years, he traitorously hides his power, pretending to be a gifted scribe. But when Nolan comes face-to-face with a deserter, the man discovers his secret. To evade detection and a death sen- tence, Nolan escapes with the deserter and flees into a night filled with dark creatures who steal both powers and souls. Nolan joins a resistance, a village hidden deep in the forest, filled with others who secretly wield a Shay. But his peace is short lived when they discover that the dark clouds, the undead creatures, their own decreasing powers, and even the king, are all connected.

Tracy Tam doesn't really believe in Santa Claus, at least not like the rest of us do. She also doesn't believe that Santa can possibly deliver all of those presents in one night, to children around the world, without a little help from science. A flying sleigh can only be powered by jet engines, after all, and Santa’s magical abilities can only be the result of altered DNA. How else could he know what every little girl and boy wants for Christmas and who has been naughty or nice? In order to test her theories, Tracy sneaks onto Santa’s sleigh then ends up at Santa Command, where a team of (gasp!) humans monitor Santa’s big night. When Tracy attempts to hack into their comput- ers, she accidentally introduces a virus into the system. As a result, three states get knocked out of sync with the rest of the world (oops!). Santa won't be able to deliver all the presents in time! Now, Tracy must fix time and help Santa, but she has no idea how. How can a girl who doesn't believe help Santa and save Christmas before it's too late? With a little Christmas magic, of course!

sweet."

He’s from another planet, and if Jess can’t help him get back to his ship, he’ll be stuck on Earth with nothing to look forward to but the pointy end of a dissection scalpel. Her father runs their house like an army barracks, and with an alien on the loose, Major Dad isn’t too keen on the idea of Jess going anywhere. Ever. So how the heck is she supposed to help the sweetest, strangest, and cutest guy she’s ever met? Hiding him in her room probably isn’t the best idea. Especially since her Dad is in charge of the squadron searching for David. That doesn’t mean she won’t do it. It just means she can't get caught. As they race through the woods with Major Dad and most of the U.S. mili- tary one breath behind them, Jess and David grow closer than either of them anticipated. But David has a genocide-sized secret, and one be- trayal later, they are both in handcuffs as alien warships are positioning themselves around the globe. It seems some parents don't want Jed attending school with their kids. Enter the mysterious NZN Network. They've been distributing anti-zombie propaganda in an effort to get Jed expelled. Charlie, residual resentment over losing Hannah, and a continuous stream of unwanted assign- ments leave Dez restless and argumentative. In

a missed encounter with Crosby, her prying gaze

lands upon a single entry in the datebook on his unoccupied desk. These few, hastily scribbled words reveal an enormous secret he’s keeping from her. Possessed by a painful sense of be- trayal, she once again sneaks off to Atman City, determined to find answers to an unresolved piece of her life. It begins as all their adventures do, but as light falls into darkness, a stop in an unfamiliar neighborhood sets forth a chaotic

series of events. Dez will have to fight for her very existence, and will face painful, irreparable loss

in an afterlife teeming with demons wielding

ancient powers.

Bianca St. Germain works at a Night House, a place where vampires like the aristocratic Jere- miah Archer pay to feed on humans, and she doesn’t much care what others think of her. The money is good, and at least there she’s safe. Bianca also doesn’t care that the Night House is killing her. All she cares about is nauth, the highly addictive poison in vampire bites that brings a euphoria like no drug ever could. But when Bianca meets James, a reclusive empath who feels everything she does, for the first time, she considers a life outside of the Night House and a someone worth living for. But Jeremiah has decided to keep Bianca for himself; he won’t allow her to walk away. As she allows her feelings for James to grow, she struggles to con- tain nauth's strong hold on her life. If they are to have a future, James must make her see what she's worth and what she means to him, before Jeremiah and nauth claim her for good.

Princess Cupcake Jones series

Princess Cupcake Jones series

Ylleya Fields Illustrations by Michael LaDuca

In the Princess Cupcake Jones series, award-winning author Ylleya Fields delivers valuable life- lessons with the help of a determined little Princess. With gentle, rhyming cadence and vibrant illustrations, these captivating stories help children and their parents learn about sharing feelings, taking risks, putting things in their proper place, and encouraging new adventures.

Ylleya Fields was hunting for books to read to her eldest daughter when she was two, and was struck by the small selection of titles featuring modern African American characters. Blending both of her daugh- ters’ images and personalities, she created Princess Cupcake Jones. She lives in Cleveland, Ohio. Michael LaDuca is an animator and illustrator who always knew his calling was in the arts. As a master of character expression and still-framed storytelling, he produces brilliant illustrations that charm audiences and bring storybooks to life. He lives in Buffalo, New York.

When Grandma’s family moves away, she finds
herself all alone. What does Grandma do when
she’s by herself? This question inspired this heart-
warming story of family, friendship, and the love
only a pet can provide. Grandma’s inner life is
shared with readers and will spark discussion about
the importance of friendship at any age. It is a
spirited call to action for a family to prevent older
members from feeling lonely. It also shows the role
that a pet can play as a friend and companion.

P. J. Fischer was the little kid who lived around the corner from his grandmother in Salem, Oregon. He used to bike over and stay a while. Back then, the author’s dog was named Mustard. Remembering those sweet times, he created Grandma and her chocolate labrador. He lives in New York City. Cindy Nguyen is an illustrator from Gau Family Stu- dio. She lives in Des Moines, Iowa.
