Vol. XXII No. 47
Solemnity of Christ the King

atthew
25:31-46
describes
Judgment
Day as the day when
Jesus comes in His glory, and
all the angels with Him and he
will separate all nations from
one another as a shepherd
separates the sheep from the
goats, and he will place the
sheep on his right hand, but the
goat at the left.
And He said that the
sheep, those who were
righteous, will inherit His
kingdom For I was hungry and
you gave me food, I was thirsty
and you gave me drink, I was a
stranger and you welcomed me,
I was naked and you clothed me,
I was sick and you visited me, I
was in prison and you came to
me.
And the people wondered because they
thought they had not done these to Jesus,
but Jesus told them, As you did it to one of
the least of these my brethren, you did it to
me. And they were gifted with the blessing
of eternal life.
He told the goats to leave and go into
hell with the devil and his angels and suffer
eternal punishment.
No other time in the history of man
than today do these verses become more
significant. Definitely, Jesus then had a
vision of what would happen to the world
today. And now, a time the division between
the righteous and the evil is becoming
clearer and distinct.
Terrorist groups like Abu Sayyaf in
Basilan, the ISIS in the Middle East, Al
Qaeda in Afghanistan and hundreds of
others, propagate more terror and fear
among those who desire to live in peace in
various parts of the world. They mercilessly
kill, maim and rape the innocent, helpless
and vulnerable, most specially the children
and the elderly, for no reason at all.
They have destroyed not only buildings
and infrastructures but also families,
communities, livelihoods and even the
economy. Many fathers and mothers were
deprived of their children, and many

in the

Modern Times
Alberto Hollero Yanga

children no longer have fathers and mothers

to care for them. Many were driven away
from their homes and forced to live in
camps. They are now living difficult lives,
perhaps with no future.
But worst of all is the physical
destruction which disrespect human spirit
and dignity. For these are the terrorists
ultimate goal and greatest evil triumph.
Their reasons for their actions are no longer
political. They are happiest when they
succeed in making others suffer, and when
they overrule the world and force everyone
to kneel before them. Their actions when
persists without contrition, can never be
justified on Judgment Day and they may
ultimately suffer eternal punishment.
Many of these kinds of terrorists thrive
in our midst. They are people who disrupt
our normal way of living, create trouble,
sow fear and challenge our faith. They are
the thieves who enter our homes, steal our
properties and harm our families. They
are the irresponsible and violent vehicle
drivers who have no respect for life; they are
the politicians who steal our money, amass
unnecessary wealth and deceive us with lies;
they are the alcoholics and drug addicts with
no purpose in life; they are the irresponsible
government workers who do nothing yet

receive the right pay; they are

the peace-and-order enforcers
who engage in illegal form of
earning through kotong system
from the poor drivers and small
businessmen; and many more.
As Jesus said, they are the
ones who do not allow Him
to enter their hearts when He
is homeless, do not feed Him
with their kindness when He is
hungry, do not clothe Him with
love when He is naked, and do
not visit Him with care when
He is sick.
If it is any consolation at
all, the number of terrorists
is actually few. Terror,
however, multiplies fast and
intensifies. The single action
of one terrorist can sow fear
in the hearts of thousands.
Who can stop terror? It
should be the sheep among us. Perhaps
these so-called terrorists amidst our
society are those who are deprived and
depraved of faith, love and trust. This may
seem a very simplistic approach to a very
complicated global problem which many
eminent world leaders have so far failed
to solve. But these groups of terrorists
worldwide are composed of individuals, who
are real terrorists at heart. Isnt it true that
when a person is deprived and depraved of
faith, love and trust, his behavior is changed
and he behaves differently from normal?
Perhaps the terrorists are what Jesus
calls one of the least of these my brethren
who are thirsty and need to drink, who are
homeless and need to be welcomed, who
are sick and need to be attended to, who are
hungry and need to be fed.
Each one of us is a reflection of Gods
goodness. Each one of us who is deprived
and depraved is a reflection of Jesus because
He suffered the same fate, and each one of
us who cares for Jesus and are among those
who are the least amongst us, will be gifted
with eternal life to come.
I believe, a simple act of goodness can
change the face of our modern world. Who
knows?

ANG SAKRAMENTO SANG BUNYAG

ANG SAKRAMENTO SANG BUNYAG SUNO SA KODIGO SANG DERECHO KANONIKO

kon ginapadayon sa sini nga isyu ang

pagpaathag sang mga ginapanugyan
sang Kodigo sang Derecho Kanoniko
nahanungod sa Sakramento sang Bunyag.
Sang nagligad nga isyu, akon gintudlo ang
nahanungod sa pagselebrar sang Bunyag
(cc. 849-860) kag Ministro sang Bunyag
(cc. 861-863).
ANG MGA DAPAT BUNYAGAN (cc. 864-871)
Sanday sin-o ang sarang mabunyagan?
Maathag ang sabat sa sini nga pamangkot:
ang mga tawo lamang nga wala mabunyagi
ang sarang mabunyagan. Ang mga
nabunyagan na indi sarang kag indi dapat
bunyagan liwat.
paagi. Kon pagkatapos sang mga pag-usisa
nagapabilin gihapon ang duda, amo kag
sarang sia mabunyagan, pero kondisyonal
lamang nga pagbunyag; kon sa aton pa,
ang epekto sang bunyag nagadepende sa
kon bala nabunyagan sia ukon wala.

A.
Mga
dapat
mahibaloan

ila, ukon ang sin-o man nga nagatal-us sa ila.
Kinahanglan man nga may kasigurohan nga ang
bata padakuon sa relihiyon nga Katoliko. Kon wala
ini nga kasigurohan, sarang mapaiway anay ang
pagbunyag sa iya, kag pahibaluon ang natungdan
nga ginikanan sang rason kon ngaa ginapaiway
anay ang bunyag. Pero kon yara sa peligro nga
mapatay ang bata, kon Katoliko ang iya ginikanan,
ukon nasapwan lamang dapat man bunyagan,
luwas lamang kon pagkatapos sang isa ka maid-id
nga pag-usisa nasapwan nga ini sia nabunyagan na.
Subong man, ang lapsag nga ginhulog sing hungod
sang iya iloy, kon buhi pa ini nga bata, kinahanglan
bunyagan man kon ini sarang mahimo.

B. Mga dapat mahibaloan nahanungod sa

bunyag sang mga hamtong
Ang Simbahan nga Katoliko nagakilala kag
nagabaton man nga valido ang bunyag sang pila
protestante. Kon ang isa ka tawo nabunyagan
sa relihiyon nga indi Katoliko, indi sia dapat
pagbunyagan sing kondisyonal, luwas lamang kon

Dapat man ipaathag sa iya
kon ngaa may duda nahanungod sa iya
bunyag. Kon bata ang ginabunyagan, ang
dapat paathagan amo ang mga ginikanan
sang sini nga bata.
(May kasugpon)
*****
ginasugoran. Ang luyag ipaabot sa aton
sang Simbahan amo nga ang tiempo kag
panahon nagapadayon may nagatapos
kag may nagasugod.
Apang may
ang pagsunod sang Iya kabubut-on. Kon

Who Sits in the Throne of Your Heart?

Fr. Nathaniel G. Gentizon

s I watch the TV series entitled

Merlin during my free time, I
came to know and realize the
relationship and the role of the king and
his people.
The king serves the common good.
He implements laws that provide and
ensure peace and order in the kingdom.
When his kingdom is under threat and
is on the verge of destruction, the king
is responsible for making decisions to
protect his people. He may not be able
to please others because of his rules
and regulations but as the good king he
desires no less than the safety and peace
of His entire kingdom.
On the other hand, the people give
their allegiance to the king. They must be
loyal and faithful to him. They are obliged
to obey the laws and decrees enforced by
the king, and are expected to follow them
at all costs because they believe that what

may attain life everlasting. Yes, His law of

love may be difficult but He set Himself
as the example for us to realize that it is
possible to truly love others even though
they may be unlovable and difficult to
love. Love is the way to peace. This is
what Jesus desires His earthly Kingdom to
be a kingdom of love where people care,
respect and are concerned of one another.
When our lives are not in peace, it is
perhaps because we may not have made
Jesus to be our one and only King. Instead
of Him sitting in the throne of our hearts,
we let worldly things and pleasures and
even our own selves sit in that throne
which is supposed to be for Jesus.
he commands is for their own good.
Let us proclaim Jesus our King. Let
Now, in our relationship with our Lord Jesus
Christ, let us truly make Him King of our personal Him sit in the throne of our hearts. Let us
and communal life. He is our King, Who came to follow Him, Who came to serve and not
serve and not to be served and Who offered His to be served. Let us obey His law of love
whole life for us to be saved. His command is that so that peace and order may reign in our
of love which we must follow and live so that we hearts.

Fond Memories at Jaro Parochial House

The Jaro Convent used to be a shelter
for the youth during my time; it was
where we shared stories and amazing
life journeys. It was where we laughed
and cried and found our second family. It
was where our faith in God was formed.
Our parish priest before really found
it difficult to make us go home to our
families. We really appreciate those
reminders he gave us through our youth
director. Jaro convent is truly the second
home for the youth.

Anna Shiela A. Moreno
I can still vividly recall how the
convent used to be our second home. A
shelter where memories were created,
friendship was built, and faith shared
Monico H. Alitao, New Jersey, USA

I recall those times when we were eating

breakfast (coffee and pan de sal) every Sunday
morning with the personnel, then having
conversation about the latest sports event and
showbiz news during the break in the afternoon.

Angelo Alba, SVFS & Libreria
I remember the time I was assigned at the Jaro
convent together with eight other seminarians
during the Summer Pastoral with the Bishops. This
was in 2011. We also lived here at the convent, with
Bishop Gerry Alminaza. Because of this exposure,
I was able to have a glimpse of the pastoral life of
the parish, including parish meetings and other
activities.

Sem. Paul Patrick A. Alipao
I remember the portraits of past parish priests
of Jaro Cathedral. These were placed on the wall of
the convent office. I hope they preserve these so it
will help us recall the past.

Ika-34 nga Domingo sang Tuig, Nobyembre 23, 2014

Ang Katapusan nga Paghukom

Kon ang Anak sang Tawo

magkari subong Hari, nga
ginaupdan sang tanan nga mga
anghel, magalingkod sia sa iya
harianon nga trono, 32kag ang
tanan nga mga tawo sa kalibutan
pagatipunon sa iya atubangan.
Dayon painon niya sila sa duha
ka grupo, subong nga ang
mga karnero ginapain sang
manugbantay sa mga kanding.
33
Ipahamtang niya ang mga
karnero sa iya tuo, kag ang mga
kanding sa iya wala. 34Dayon
ang Hari magasiling sa mga
tawo sa iya tuo, kari kamo nga
ginpakamaayo sang akon Amay.
Panublia ninyo ang Ginharian
nga gin-aman sa inyo halin

Kay

people to answer Gods call to religious life.
When the program proper started, the
participants were gathered into groups and
shared their life experiences, listened to the
talks, shared and prayed for one another and
for vocations. The participants also witnessed
the Benediction of the Body of Christ. At this
point, everyone felt the presence of Jesus in
their midst. This helped the participants in
their personal reflection and discernment in
answering Gods call.
Afterwards, the participants watched a
film entitled KAROL. This is about the life of

St. Pope John Paul II. The program was

made lively because of the different
talents showcased by the participants
from different schools and religious
organizations. This was also the
opportunity for them to meet other
young people, and at the same time
strengthen relationship with God, our
Father.
The Vocation Gig ended with
the Rosary recitation where a short
clip about each mystery was shown.
Everybody went home sleepy but full of
enthusiasm to continue serving God.

Si Jesus ang dalan

Padulong sa Dios Amay nga
makagagahum sang tanan
gintuga sa wala pa ang kalibutan
naghalad sang Iya kabuhi para sa aton
kaluwasan.

Dalan nga mabudlay usuyon kag laktan

Dala ang Krus nga ginapas-an
Mabug-at kag nagakadasma man
Pang-agda sa pagsunod sa Iya inagihan.
Si Jesus ang Kamatuoran
Kay ang Pulong nangin tawo man
Sa Ebanghelyo ni San Juan
Nasulat ang tanan.

Pulong kaupod sang Dios, halin sa

ginsugoran(Jn1:1)
Paagi sa Pulong gintuga
Niya ang tanan (Jn 1:2)
Ini nga Pulong wala sing liwan
Si Jesus nga tagdala sang kapawa sa
kadudolman.

Ang Pulong amo ang ginhalinan

sang kabuhi (Jn 1:4)
Kabuhi sa Iya kapupun-an
Kay Jesus aton maangkon kag makit-an
Ang tanan diri sa kalibutan.
Handum nga pagkabala-an
Grasya sang Dios kabay nga bugayan
Kay Kristo Jesus nga amo ang dalan,

Sia nga taghatag sang kabuhi sa

Cathedral Priests and Lay Leaders Meet and Collaborate

Anna Shiela A. Moreno

T
N

ovember 13, 2014, 6:30 p.m. The

first room of the La Isabelita Hall
was well-lighted. A prepared buffet
table at the side of the room and table for
the Tri-Council meeting were set. The
participants of the meeting came in and
signed the attendance sheet. They were
the heads and members of the Pastoral,
Apostolic and Finance Councils.
Msgr. Higinio Velarde, parish priest,
presided over the meeting attended
by Fr. Nathaniel G. Gentizon, Fr. Ronald
C. de Leon, Fr. Francisco Angostura,
Fr. Joenick Territorio, Msgr. Alejandro
Esperancilla, and lay leaders. Msgr. Gene
blessed the food and was served prior to
the meeting.
The meeting started in the evening
at 7:00 oclock. The first topic discussed
was about Fr. Ronald De Leons transfer
to Sta. Barbara Sanitarium on November
30, 2014.
To take the place of Fr. De Leon is
Fr. Randy Doromal who is presently the

Director of the Archdiocesan Commission on

Family and Life.
The coming celebration of the Advent
and Christmas season was also brought up.
Msgr. Gene recalled that it was a year ago
when he was installed as Parish Priest of
Jaro Cathedral. The Mass of Waiting will
continue and will start on December 15 and
end on December 23 of this year. There will
be three Barangay Aguinaldo Masses: San
Vicente, Bakhaw, and Tabuc Suba-Ilaya. The
traditional serving of taho and pan de sal
will not be possible this year because there is
no venue for preparation since the Parochial
House is under renovation. The Christmas
Presentation before the Midnight Mass on
December 24 shall continue.
The celebration of the Feast of the
Immaculate Concepcion was also discussed.
The procession will be after the 5:30 p.m.
Mass.
Matters about the Fiesta 2015 were
also discussed. Solicitations to finance the
celebration were given emphasis and must

be out long before the Fiesta. The Fiesta

Committee will meet regarding their
responsibilities for the said occasion.
Update about the Parochial house was
discussed. Transparency on Finances was
suggested. Msgr. Gene, the priests present,
and the members of the Tri-Council also
agreed on this matter.
Avenues for improvement were also
brought up such as better coordination
among
ministries
and
religious
organizations.
Mrs. Elenita G. Java, St. Elizabeth of
Hungary Kinder School principal, extended
her gratitude to Fr. Ronald C. De Leon for his
full support to the school. In this connection,
a despedida party will be prepared for him.
She also thanked the Parish Administration
and Fr. Joenick Territorio for the Adult Faith
Formation programs. She reported that the
schools project regarding the storage of the
chairs and the painting of the statue of St.
Elizabeth of Hungary are already in place.
Meeting adjourned before 9 p.m.

Carmelites Mark 5th Birth Centenary of Founder

with Prayer-powered Run

he Carmelite Community here is

marking the 5th Birth Centenary
of Sta. Teresa of Jesus with a
run/walk dubbed Sta. Teresa PrayerPowered Run anchored on the theme
Dalagan Ko! Pangamuyo Mo!
The event is slated on December 6,
starting with a Mass at 5:00 AM, at the
Plazuela de Iloilo.
It will not be the usual fun run,
according to the Local Commission for
the celebration, chaired by Fr. Danilo
Fauste, OCD, since they are encouraging
the runners to be in a prayerful mode,
reflecting on their relationship with the
Lord.

Elsa S. Subong
The actual run/walk, which is expected
to gather some 1,000 or more participants,
will begin after the Mass, spanning a distance
of four kilometers.
Those who cannot run may join those
who will walk the one-kilometer distance,
again in a prayerful disposition, said Sis.
Elnora Pahunao, OCDS, who is in-charge of
the event.
Interested parties can pre-register at the
following: St. Joseph the Worker Parish, Jaro
Carmel, Archbishops Palace, Sta. Teresita
Parish, Sto. Nio Shrine (SM Delgado),
Gaisano City and Robinsons Place, Plazuela
de Iloilo and at the Amigo Mall, where the Sta.
Teresa Exhibits are currently on display.

Registration Fee starts at P50 with

runners Bib; P150 with Bib and T-shirt for
students; and P200 with Bib and T-shirt for
adults.
Funds generated from this event
will be used by the Local Commision for
the support of the St. Joseph Regional
Seminary and for the sick and aged sisters
of Carmelite Communities in Jaro.
This Prayer-powered run is a kind of
journey in our prayer life, together with
Sta. Teresa and our Lord, said Fr. Fauste.
Sta. Teresa de Jesus of Avila is the founder
of the Order of the Discalced Carmelites,
whose monasteries all over the world are
considered powerhouses of prayer.
CANDLE LIGHT (November 23 - 29, 2014)

Pureza D. Lacuesta

he leadership of the Catholic Church is moving fast. Many

apostolic groups have been organized to spread through the
Archdiocese, solving religious problems, improving non-care
attitudes, and giving life to dormant activities.
Most parents and adult family members are doing their utmost
to send their offspring to college in order for them to have a bright
future. Self-sacrifice is the call of the day. Time and energy are
given more for the insurance of a better and, more secure life.
Our skies are getting bright. The clouds of crimes and vices are
gradually fading beyond the horizon. Although there are still many
failures and misbehavior, they are nothing compared to the offset
of misbehavior in the past years.
It is very clear that constant prayer self-sacrifice and the
practice of Christianity at all times and in all places because of
constant prodding of our clergy, has done something to our spiritual
life, and has started the road to change of values and lifestyle.
December is in the air and very soon, shopping sprees and
abundant food will be felt everywhere. While we think of toys, gifts,
and bright lights, let us also remember those who cannot afford to
go gala. Let us look into our closets and pockets if we have anything
to give away.
I am reminded of a friend, a former female government worker
who passed away a few days ago. When she felt bad two weeks
ago, she was advised to go to the hospital but she refused. She said
that she did not like to spend thousands on her because there was
no possibility that she would get well. She preferred to leave the
amount to her children. This is generosity of the highest degree.
This is love of the strongest chord.
When God saw that the world was too sinful and too difficult
to change, He sent Jesus, His only Son, in the form of a human
being, to free us from the chains of hell. There was the garden of
Gethsemane. There was the painful road to Calvary. There was the
peak of Calvary where He was crucified. If we look at the crucified
Christ, we can almost feel the wounds made by the nails, and the
blade of the lance which they pierced His Breast.
We only need to review the story of the crucifixion in order to
understand the story of redemption.
We call ourselves Christians, patterned after the name of the
Lord, making us His followers wherever we go and whatever we do.
If we have learned the Christian art of feeling and sharing, let
us make it a part of our dealing with our brothers and sisters for:
Theres a land that is fairer than day, And by faith we can see
it afar, For the Father waits over the way, to prepare us a dwelling
place there.
In the sweet by and by, We shall meet on that beautiful shore,
In the sweet by and by, We shall meet on that beautiful shore.
Nobody lives forever. We grow older every minute. God is
waiting for each of us to go to Him kiss His Hand and His Feet. He
is waiting!
