The project titled To Study the Preference for Enterprise Product

Data Management Software in select Industrial Area. forPelf Infotech
Pvt. Ltd. Pune. Major Focus of project was to find out the preferences for
EPDM software in select industrial area.
The project report is prepared by conducting a survey through a structured
questionnaire through visiting companies within the periphery of Pune and I
have to study their preferences towards EPDM software.
The survey was conducted with sample size of 143 and the data collected was
primary data on which the analysis was made accordingly with the hope that
it would make a value addition about the Pelf Infotech Pvt. Ltd. And towards
my knowledge as a student of MBA.
The information is collected with the help of questionnaire which are
prepared by me on the basis of possibility that it would cover the important
details about the response of the companies. The survey was done through
questionnaire and the facts and findings which came out after completing the
study revealed that the views differ from question to question and person to
person but the fact after summing up the data was that most of the companies
dont use Product data Management Software for their Product Data
management which should be taken into consideration by Pelf Infotech Pvt.

Starting around the mid-1970s, as computer aided design systems

began to provide more capability than just an ability to reproduce
manual drafting with electronic drafting, the cost benefit for companies
to switch to CAD became apparent. The benefit of CAD systems over
manual drafting are the capabilities one often takes for granted from
computer systems today; automated generation of Bill of Material, auto
layout in integrated circuits, interference checking, and many others.
Eventually CAD provided the designer with the ability to perform
engineering calculations. During this transition, calculations were still
performed either by hand or by those individuals that could run
computer programs. CAD was a revolutionary change in the engineering
industry, where draftsmen, designers and engineering roles begin to
merge. It did not eliminate departments, as much as it merged
departments and empowered draftsman, designers and engineers. CAD
is just another example of the pervasive effect computers were
beginning to have on industry.
Current computer-aided design software packages range from
2D vector-based drafting systems to 3D solid and surface modelers.
Modern CAD packages can also frequently allow rotations in three
dimensions, allowing viewing of a designed object from any desired
angle, even from the inside looking out. Some CAD software is capable
of dynamic mathematical modeling, in which case it may be marketed as
CADD.
CAD is used in the design of tools and machinery and in the
drafting and design of all types of buildings, from small residential types
(houses) to the largest commercial and industrial structures (hospitals
and factories).

CAD is mainly used for detailed engineering of 3D models and/or

2D drawings of physical components, but it is also used throughout the
engineering process from conceptual design and layout of products,
through strength and dynamic analysis of assemblies to definition of
manufacturing methods of components. It can also be used to design
objects. Furthermore many CAD applications now offer advanced
rendering and animation capabilities so engineers can better visualize
their product designs.4D BIM is a type of virtual construction
engineering simulation incorporating time or schedule related
information for project management.
CAD has become an especially important technology within the
scope of computer-aided technologies, with benefits such as lower
product development costs and a greatly shortened design cycle. CAD
enables designers to layout and develops work on screen, print it out and
save it for future editing, saving time on their drawings.

MEANING OF RESEARCH
Research has been defined by various authors in different ways. It always
begins with a question or a problem. Its purpose is to find answers to
questions through the application systematic and scientific methods. Thus,
research is the systematic approach towards purposeful investigation. This
needs formulating a hypothesis, collection of data on relevant variables,
analyzing and interpreting the results and reaching conclusion either in the
form of solution or certain generalizations.
RESEARCH DESIGN
A research project conducted scientifically has a specific framework of
research from the problems identification to the presentation of the research
report. This research framework is known as the research design. The study
undertaken is Descriptive in nature, as the objectives were clearly mentioned
when the study was conducted. The design was so prepared that it fulfilling
the objectives of the study and there was minimization of bias and
maximization of reliability of evidence.

This method is undertaken when the research is interested in knowledge about
the characteristics of certain group such as age, educational level, and income,
interested in knowing the proportion of unit a given population who behaved

variables. This method had proved to be one of the most suitable ones in this
research work.

companys success, so knowing a good deal about it is of much importance.
The company can trace the loopholes and take corrective measures which will
help it improve further. The project has covered various marketing concepts
and the models that fit into the business model. This project can be used to
identify the gap between the companys offering and the customers
expectations. The scope is just not limited to the company; it gives an idea of
the industry.

Once the research problem is formulated and the research design is
determined, the next task is data collection. Data can be classified into two
categories Primary and Secondary.
PRIMARY DATA
Primary data is one which is collected by the investigator himself for the
purpose of a specific inquiry or study. Such data is original in character and is
generated by surveys conducted by individuals or research institutions.

evolved which included both closed & open ended questions. The research

It is a sampling method in which units are selected based on easy
access/availability. Convenient sampling is a type of non-probability
sampling which involves the sample being drawn from that part of the
population which is close to hand. For the successful accomplishment of this
research convenience sampling has been selected.

This research is descriptive research done in and around Pune.

Primary data:
o The primary data is the data collected for the first time and thus
happened to be of original character. Primary data include the
information collected from the people through discussion. The
data used for study is acquired and collected by having
interaction with the people in Ranjangaon, Sanaswadi, Narhe,
Pirangut, Bhosari, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Shivane and Hadapsar
areas in Pune city.
Secondary data:
o The secondary data on the other hand are those which have
already been collected by someone else and which have already
been passed through the statistical processes. The information we
got from the websites of the Pelf InfoTech Pvt. Ltd.
Research Design:
o A research project conducted scientifically has a specific
framework of research from the problem identification to the
presentation of the research report. This framework of
conducting research is known as research design.
o A research design is simply the framework or plan for a study
that is used as a guide in collecting & analyzing the data it is a
blue print that is followed in completing study.
Sampling:
o Sampling is essential technique of behavioral research; the
research work cant be undertaken without use of sampling. The
study of all people in Pune city is not possible & it is also
impracticable. The practical limitation cost, time & other
factors which are usually operative in the situation, stand in the
way of studying the people in Pune city.
Method:
o A questionnaire is a method of obtaining specific information
about a defined problem so that the data, after analyzing &
interpretation, results in a better appreciation of the problem. A
questionnaire form which has to be completed by respondent, for
this project report I collect the answers of the questions through
survey method.

FINDINGS
1. I visited 200+ companies and found that about 74% of the Use
designing software.
2. By observations it seems that from above 74% of companies that
Product data management software is not used by many of the
companies around Pune. There is only 38% companies use EPDM.
3. About 58% of the companies dont use any Software for Data
management. They are managing their product data on local server or
the same device on which they are designing product.
4. Its also seen that 4% companies are not aware about the Enterprise
Product Data Management Software.

LIMITATIONS
Time Constraint
There was time constraint to this project. The project was to be
completed within 2 months.
Area Limitations
The study was limited to Pune District or around the Pune city.
Hence the findings may differ from other parts of India where I
have not visited.
Limited sources of data collection
Sources of data for collection of secondary data were limited. The
study is based on the primary data collected during research.
Unavailability of official data
Due to Companies norms and regulation some of the official data
about the current software they using and number of employees
working in design team couldnt be made available. The figures
given are approximate figures.
Non-Respondent error
It is almost impossible to obtain data from each and every
respondent covered in sample. There are always some respondents
who refuse to give information.
Busy respondents
Many times respondents were so busy that they didnt reply. There
were biased replies also. As I was not given any identity proof by
company some of the respondents didnt entertain me as they asked
to show identity proof.
