Method of statement

Laying gas pipes and fitting installation to new gas pipeline

Before commencing work, a function test of all existing gas equipment must be made and any
defects reported to Site Manager/Supervisor. The existing gas pipeline must be checked and isolate
from all equipment before purging, inserting or install fitting. Below are the methods for the works:1. Isolate the gas main section where to be worked on and disconnect at the main source and
install a flexible hose at the Galileo Filling station valve point for purging purpose.
2. Remove gas or gas-freeing by purging with Nitrogen from the Galileo compressor vent to the
step 1 flexible hose for purging outlet. Nitrogen shall be used to prevent fire or explosions.
3. Before entering the equipment, the nitrogen shall be replaced by air.
4. Once the existing pipe is degassed, cut the existing pipe at the selected point and the
connection of 1 equal tee will be install or insert by using standard pipefitting technique
(this technique usually Hot Work).
5. On completion of the pipe-work connection, connects the 1 Equal Tee to the 1 x 1
Reducing Tee with 1 pipe for the new gas pipeline to the Filling Station.
6. For the new gas pipelines, place and install the 1 pipe on the specified places (according
to the given drawing). The installation for fittings and pipes are by using pipefitting technique
(Hot Work).
7. After all the works completed, Non Destructive Test (NDT) will be made to check and inspect
any pipe failure. If any failure found the remedial work shall be made before go further step.
8. After the all of the systems checked, the Pressure Test with 4000 psi is conducted. This test
conducted to check if any leaks found on the fittings and pipelines.
9. All the existing will be function checked and any new appliances commissioned to the
manufactured requirement.
10. The painting work shall be done for the new pipelines and fittings and labelled GAS or
LPG with arrow at direction changes.

HOT WORK
Site Welding, soldering, and grinding
The following precautions must be taken before all site welding; warming grinding or soldering that
entails the use of sparks, naked flames or resistance of welding.
Before any Hot Work commences. (Soldering, welding, heating and grinding)

This statement must be approved with the client safety officer before any hot work is done.
The welding site must be cleared of all combustible material.
The welder and assistant must be aware of where the fire alarms are and where all the fire
fighting equipment is stored.
All people near to the welding site must be aware of the operation and protected
accordingly. If possible they should be move to a safe distance.
All the hot work equipment should be checked for proper and safe condition before the
welding operation starts to operate.
2 fire extinguishers should be placed near the weld site.
All the PPE should be checked and in good order.
Two operative are required for all welding, cutting, soldering and grinding operations. (One
to work, one act as safety cover)
Gas mains must be removed with nitrogen before welding commences.

After any hot work finishes. (Soldering, welding, heating and grinding)

Welding site should be thoroughly watched until all red metal is cooled.
The surrounding area should be thoroughly checked for the signs of burning.
The welding site cannot be covered up until at least 40 minutes after last item was welded
and only then after another final check has been made for smouldering.
After one hour from last welding operation if there are no sign of smouldering round the
weld site then the site can be deemed to be safe and the extinguishers and safety equipment
can be put away.
Before leaving site, a final check of the weld area is to be made by the welder himself and if
possible the clients safety officer.
Be aware of smouldering, spark streams, unattended naked flames and combustible
materials near operation site. DO NOT leave any hot work site unattended until an hour after
the last hot operation occurs.
