The main problem, is there are too many batshit crazy 'Feminists'.

I know they don't represent feminism as a whole, but because of this prevalence, I can not take Feminism
seriously.
People should be Humanists - equal treatment for ALL people. "people should be humanists"... thats exactly the
same as a little kid asking why mummy and daddy get mothers and fathers days and the kid doesn't get
"children's day". Its because every day is already your day you little brat!! So the main premise of this article is
that feminism stifles the voices of men who also encounter gender issues, and that some women don't want to be
career women AND have a family?
BOTH of these things are bullshit. For starters, feminism seeks to dismantle societal gender roles. This means
that any gender issues that men face can also be dismantled i.e. the high rate of suicide in men, as it means they
will have the freedom to express feelings via a healthy way without seeming womanly or weak. Nearly every
other gender issue that men mention such as the higher homicide rate is pretty much perpetuated BY MEN and
not caused by women. The majority of rapists, murderers, soldiers, religious extremists/terrorists, child molesters
etc. ARE MEN. This is because society does not equip these men with emotional strength and does not support
them when they require help. This is what feminism partially seeks to achieve in dismantling patriarchal values.
Secondly, "Feminism is dogmatic, it sets rules" is bullshit. It doesn't take a genius to realise that feminism seeks
to ELIMINATE rules that restrict minorities. This means that a woman that chooses to be a stay at home mother
and not pursue a career should not feel like she has to justify it to anyone! Not to feminists, not to society,
nobody. The fact that the woman mentioned in the article feels ashamed for her life choice (which is a perfectly
respectable choice) shows that FEMINISM IS STILL NEEDED. Feminism pushes women to occupy spaces that
are otherwise male dominated if that is what they want to do, and this is why idiots like the author of this article try
to portray it as oppressive.
It's pretty convenient how this author fails to mention everything (true) feminists campaign for, which is trans*
rights, racial rights, gender rights (including male rights when necessary), gay/lesbian/bi rights and disabled
rights, not just women's rights.
Sorry about the essay, but nothing shits me more than a bunch of males sitting around trying to remove
feminism. If you feel threatened, good, that means we're doing our job. I just thought that the 1 point I made was
good. Most of it is crap. I'm in full support of feminism I just think it sucks to be a female feminist My point was
this article brought to my attention how much it sucks to be a feminist, you guys just cant catch a break lol Urgh I
know this guy is just so far off the mark. What sucks is there's probably going to be so many dudes jumping on
this bandwagon like "Hurr durr feminazis" Nobody read the comments section ok I did... there is a bunch of
wanky MRA dudes 1 german chick had some really good things to say A brave post, although I really think
you've only really touched the tip of the iceberg as to what's wrong with feminism. The core problem with
feminism was once summed up on a great t-shirt:
Traditional woman's role: Damsel in distress
Feminist woman's role: Bitchy damsel in distress Thank you for that insight Dennis Markham hashtag white male
I remember at uni that the feminist group would put stickers all over campus saying things like " Only 1 in
[however many] CEOs is a female". And I get the point that they're making. But there did seem to be this
pressure to for women to aim for that role. And that somehow I had missed the mark by becoming a nurse - a
very traditional female role. I was my choice, and I am so grateful that I have the freedom of that choice (that so
many women before me didn't have). But I understand what you mean. You understand what who means? A low
percentage of female CEOs is indicative of opportunities being denied to women on the basis of their gender, not
arguing against women who choose to work in maternal roles. There are only 5 girls in my Civil Eng course of
200 students. If we discount the argument that girls are just dumb then the only explanation left is that society
pressures women into thinking they can't achieve the same as their male counterparts. Its about creating more
opportunities, not diminishing them. I understand that the gender ratios of CEOs should be equal. I'm sure there
are so many women out there fighting damn hard to get those positions, and are being denied due to
discrimination and disadvantage. I understand that completely.
But I don't want that.
So I get a flash of guilt for being a "bad feminist" for wanting something so within the boundaries. And if I was a
stay-at-home mother I'd probably feel the same. I know it's irrational, because at it's core feminism fights for me
to do whatever I want. But it doesn't stop me wondering whether I should have pushed in a different direction. I
think you're a rad educated, independant woman with a career.
Don't stress bro, You've always done what you want.

In other news, I'm in no hurry to become a CEO either Haha thanks. I love what I do!
And I'm super glad that the old ideas of "nurses should be seen and not heard" are (for the most-part) long
gone. Is there any hard evidence that there aren't as many women CEO's because of discrimination? Whenever
I read articles on the issue they point out again and again how there aren't as many women in management roles
and they mention the sexism that women feel they face, and I'm sure it does exist to a degree.. But is it possible
that maybe there just aren't as many women aspiring towards these roles? Should women be given these roles
simply to lessen the "gender divide" or should a job as important as running multi-million dollar international
corporations go to the most capable person?
There's no denying the competency of women such as Westpac's Gail Kelly, so we know that women are just as
capablr, but it's not like men have an easy march to the top either... I'm a man and nobody has appointed me
CEO of a major company! Rachael, I'm glad you have the confidence to be proud in the choice that you've made,
but its important not to confuse progressive feminist views with conservative societal views which belittle any role
with a maternal aspect to it (mothering, nursing, teaching etc.). This is due to the fact that doing something
womanly is seen as trivial. That's why the article annoys me so much, because true feminism recognises that
these pursuits require so much patience and skill and should be respected! yeah equal, ity has alweays been my
thing. femisnism is too agressive and outdated.. though it does have awesome points and i was raised by
femminist's i still think it comes from anger, rather than rational I didn't realise being a male entitled me to be a
CEO. How exciting for me. I'm quitting my job tomorrow. Check your privilege Daniel Charles, it's in the fine print
n Someone should tell all the guys that have been and will continue to be fucked over by the family court system
that they have "white male privilege". Or how about that men are between 3 and 4 times as likely to kill
themselves as women in this country. You're also more likely to be homeless, and if you are, twice as likely to be
sleeping on the cold hard ground. Does that sound like privilege, or perhaps burden?
It's a hard knack life for everyone, it ain't all peaches and cream being a dude though, and I for one am sick and
tired of being told that it is. I am seeing that people are not understanding that feminists are for helping men as
well, the fact that men have a higher suicide rate is linked to traditional gender roles dictating that men should not
look "weak" by expressing emotions or asking for help. Feminists want to deconstruct the idea of traditional
gender roles, so that men will feel more comfortable expressing emotions and getting help for mental health
issues. Laci Green explains this really well: so Feminism literally means gender equality, if you are for gender
equality you are a feminist. If you are not for gender equality you are not a feminist. I think people get confused,
just because someone calls themselves a feminist (or any title) it doesn't mean they are that thing unless they
emulate its behaviors and ideas. People who say they are feminists but they think women should only occupy
certain roles in society or think that women are better than men are NOT feminists. Feminism is suffering a
similar fate that Muslims suffered. There is a portion of people that exist under the title of Feminism that operate
to extreme ideals and overzealous beliefs. It has tainted the feminist movement, but the thing is, this has been
going on for decades, almost since the beginning of the movement. I support equality but I will never be labelled
as a feminist, in the same way that I support Muslims but I will never be a terrorist. Women have to understand
that people (men and women) view feminism in a bad light because of that history and as long these extreme
feminist exist it's going to be undoubtably difficult to clear its name. Hence - equality.
In saying that, "men's rights activist" can piss off too. It doesn't literally mean gender equality.. According to
wiktionary's etymology of feminism: "First recorded in English in 1851, originally meaning "the state of being
feminine."
The term you are probably looking for is egalitarianism. All i'm saying is that i've seen more people calling
themselves "feminists" fighting for Red Foo's new video to be boycotted than actually doing something that
makes a significant difference. Look to people like Ayaan Hirsi Ali for inspiration, and not these handbag mafia
types that are intent on limiting what can and can't be said in what is supposed to be an open forum of artistic
expression. People like her are the heroes of feminism, and represent what feminism should be, but in western
society, is more concerned with blackmailing the population en masse into believing everything one group
believes and limiting speech, opinion and debate on any given topic *see gamergate I've also noticed a lot of
women claim to be all for dismantling gender roles until there's a spider in the bathroom.
There ARE physiological and psychological differences between men and women. We each have numerous
strengths and weaknesses which might generally apply to certain roles. Of course, these strengths and
weaknesses differ on an individual level also which might make a woman just as, if not more capable of
performing duties generally held by men and vice versa.
Men and women should have equal rights and opportunities all across the board, and nobody should be denied
anything because of their gender. I'm all for that.
However, our differences need to be embraced, not diminished! Masculinity and femininity both have a place in
this world, it's all about finding a balance where the two compliment each other and both voices are heard.
This applies on an individual level too, men should feel comfortable to occasionally display a feminine "emotional"
side and women shouldn't be afraid to embrace their machismo and squash a few spiders! Thomas Thor I was
just making that comparison the other day trying to explain it to someone! Morgan Hopkins the wiki definition

says " Feminism is a collection of movements and ideologies aimed at defining, establishing, and defending
equal political, economic, cultural, and social rights for women.[1][2] This includes seeking to establish equal
opportunities for women in education and employment. A feminist advocates or supports the rights and equality
of women" why would you employ the defintion of a word from 1851, its not going to mean the same thing. Also
we shouldnt base all our knowledge on wiki. Also Gamer Gate IS FUCKED UP. I really hope you are not
defending anyone of those assholes who were threatening to bomb, rape and murder women for expressing
opinions. Freedom of speech does not equal violent threats and assualt being okay. Morgan Hopkins there are a
few different waves of Feminism, but the modern wave believes that differences should be embraced not ignored,
because as you said we are all different. Also there are many good reasons why people are calling for that video
to be boycotted, number one being that he is a mentor to young men and women on the xfactor and also has a
huge kid fanbase. Haha sorry, I was teasing when I brought up the etymology of the word.. Also, and I know we
shouldnt be using wiki, but according to your wiki definition of feminism, but it still doesn't literally mean equality
among the genders as it only pursues women's rights. If this occasionally shares common ground with issues
affecting men it doesn't mean it's also fighting for men's rights. A good example is the one Luke raised earlier
about men being fucked over in family court. Where are the feminists fighting for these men?
I'll admit that I'm ignorant in regards to the current state/wave of the feminist movement, I don't really read any
feminist literature or anything like that.. Luckily most of the people around me who call themselves feminists, such
as yourself Sorrell, are all intelligent people who are actually for equality and capable of rational discussion. The
problem seems to be that the movement as a whole is often misguided and quick to anger. Either you're being
misrepresented by the media, which wouldn't surprise me, or the majority of "feminists" are fucking idiots.. But it
seems the majority of people in general are fucking idiots so that also wouldn't surprise me haha.
I guess what I want to know is of a great amount of people claiming to be feminists aren't actually feminists, how
are people such as myself able to discern between the real thing and those misrepresenting feminist ideals? I'm
sorry guys. This got out of control, I missed out on a bunch and I cant even be bothered reading it anymore.
Thats why I'm being silly
