Parts of Gumamela and its Functions

The Gumamela flower is also commonly known as the hibiscus flower. Its composition is a lot
like every other flower whose sole purpose is to help a plant reproduce. Its distinguishing
features are large petals, often forming a trumpet-shape and a prominent stamen tube that is
unique to the gumamela flower.

Stigma
The stigma of a flower receives pollen, the male flowers gamete. It is part of the
female flowers reproductive system. The Stigma is the end portion of the flower
and does not have an epidermis( the waxy coating on plants that helps retain water
and protects the plant).
Anthers
Anthers, the flower's male part, are connected to the top of the stamen and support
pollen sacs. The gumamela has dozens of stamens whereas most flowers have only

five.
Stamen Tube
The anthers are attached to filaments that join together and form the stamen tube,
also known as the stamina column. This is unique to the gumamela.
Style
The style, or flower's ovary, is housed in the stamen column. The style branches
out into five arms outside the stamina column. Each arm supports one of the
gumamela's stigma.
Petals=(COROLLA)
The gumamela's petals, also known as the corolla, have shallow lobes. The flower
has only five petals. Gumamela breeders develop flowers with many "petals"--stamens that are bred to look like petals---to make a larger, fuller-looking flower.
Sepals=(CALYX)
The sepals are modified leaves surrounding the gumamela's petals, serving to
protect the flower, especially when it's still a bud.
Roots

The root of the gumamela may also be used in herbal medicines and remedies. The
root is the tough, thick, woody part of the flower that is located underground and
draws nutrients and water from the soil into the plant so that it can grow.
FILAMENT
The function of the filament is to hold up the anther.Without the filament, the
anther will be inside the flower and the pollens on it cannot have any crosspollination or any self-pollination.(Can't have any offspring)

OVARY
Ovary This protects the ovule and once fertilisation has taken place it will become
the fruit.
OVULE
Ovule The Ovule is like the egg in animals and once fertilisation has taken place
will become the seed.
RECEPTACLE
The receptacle is the structure to which the other parts of the flower (The petals,
sepals and stamens) are attached. In some cases such as apples and pears it is the
receptacle which swells to form the fruit.
PEDUNCLE
A pedicel is a short flower stalk in an inflorescence or cluster of flowers. Pedicels
hold individual flowers in place, but how they do that depends on the form of the
inflorescence. The function of pedicels is to expose flowers to the sun and wind
and put them in a position so their aroma and color attracts pollinating insects more
easily.
