From the Desk of Fr. Underwood:

This time of year we give thanks to God for
His many gifts and we prepare for the greatest
gift - the birth of Jesus Christ our Savior. It has
been a tradition here at St. Lawrence to share some
of the parish needs so parishioners can thank
God and celebrate the birth of our Savior through a
gift to the parish. This list will be posted in the
bulletin for several weeks. If you would like to
make a gift to the parish, please select an item (or
items) on the list, place the money (or check) in an envelope marked
WISH LIST 2014 with your name on it as well as the gift you have
selected. The envelope can be given to me, Fr. Duquaine, the parish office,
or placed in the collection. Thank you in advance for sharing your many
gifts with your parish!

THE FAMILY THAT WORKS, PRAYS AND PLAYS TOGETHER

The 90+ Club celebrates the
following November Birthdays:

Q: Why is Paul also named Saul?

A: Saul was Jewish before his conversion and so the Hebrew
name that his parents gave him was Saul. His father was a
Roman citizen, however, so he inherited Roman
citizenship. He also took a Roman name, Paul. After his
conversion, Saul was sent to be the apostle to the
Gentiles. The Gentiles were more accustomed to his Roman
name Paul so this is what he used while evangelizing
them. This is something for us to consider when we
evangelize. Paul used the language that was familiar to the
people he evangelized so that they would be able to relate to
him and understand him. We too are called to share the
Gospel in a way that is understandable and applicable to our
audience. (email questions tofrduquaine@catholicweb.com).
RCIA The Period of the Catechumen
Please help us welcome the inquirers who
participated in the Rite of Acceptance &
Welcoming into the order of Catechumens
at the 9:30 Mass on Oct. 26. This Rite is of the utmost
importance. Assembling publicly for the first time, the
candidates who have completed the period of the
pre-catechumen and declare their intention to the Church
and the Church in turn, carrying out its apostolic mission,
accepts them as persons who intend to become its
members. God showers his grace on the candidates, since
the celebration manifests their desire publicly and marks
their reception and first consecration by the Church. Please
welcome: Phil Trice, Deb Trice, Adam Cornell, Crystal
Cornell, Maggie Cramsey, Brian Puskar and Justin Wilson.
Please keep them in your prayers as they continue their
journey of faith.
Inquiry sessions continue to meet. Wont you join us for
an inquiry session? For more information please call the
Parish Office or Jim at 447-2939.

Thank you to everyone who took an

ornament off the tree last week. If there are
still ornaments on the tree (back of church)
you can take one now. Please remember to bring your
unwrapped gifts to church by Sunday, December 7th and
place them in the back of church. It is very important that
you also attach the ornament. This helps us match up the
gifts to the family they are meant for.
There is still a need for volunteers for the day of the
Jubilee. It is Saturday, December 13th from about 9:00a.m.
to 1:00p.m. If you can help, please call Mary Jo Nelson at
404-4274 or email: 1maryjonelson@comcast.net. Also, it
is not too late to give a donation of cash to help pay for the
food that is given to each family. For those who didn't
wish to take an ornament and shop, this gives you another
opportunity to help. You may put your contribution in an
envelope and mark it "Jubilee Christmas". Just drop it in
the collection basket or in the parish office door mail
slot. God will bless you for your generous gifts to help
those less fortunate.
