Types of Optical Glasses

Optical glasses have undergone many improvements over the years,
helping to address many vision needs and eye conditions as well as
offering their wearers numerous style options. Eyeglasses now
address issues such as glare and computer eye strain. They also
address the main reason many refuse to wear them, lens thickness.

optical Lens Type

1. Aspheric
o

Aspheric lenses are thinner and lighter than normal optical lenses. They eliminate the
need for large, bottle-cap-like glassware that people with stronger prescriptions were
forced to wear. Instead, with aspheric lenses, those with poorer eyesight can wear glasses
that are cosmetically pleasing, regardless of prescription.

2.Polycarbonate
Polycarbonate lenses are durable, making them ideal for children and those involved in
sports. They are thinner than regular plastic lenses. These lenses also provide ultraviolet
protection
3. Polarized
o

Polarized lenses reduce glare, making them useful for driving. Anglers and others working
on or near water also can benefit from wearing polarized lenses to combat the glare of
sunlight reflected off the surface of water. Polarized lenses also provide 100 percent
ultraviolet protection.
Progressive

Progressive lenses are multifocal, enabling wearers to see in three ranges: near,
intermediate and distance. They have no distinguishing line on the lens like bifocals
normally do, making them cosmetically pleasing.

4.Trivex
o

Trivex lenses have similar characteristics to polycarbonate lenses and are made from a
new type of plastic. The lens is light, thin, and resistant. Users report having better vision
using Trivex lenses instead of polycarbonate lenses.

5. Photochromic lenses
Photochromic lenses are an ideal option for those having trouble finding prescription
sunglasses. These lenses change tint color when hit by sunlight, staying clear indoors and
darkening in the sun to protect from ultraviolet rays. They will not change while driving, as
the windshield blocks the sun's rays.

6.Bifocal
o

Bifocal lenses are the widespread lens used for dual-focusing purposes. A visible line can
be seen on the lens, separating the lens into two portions. The wearer may see near from
the bottom part of the lens and at a distance from the top lens. As people age, they will
usually wear bifocal lenses as a result of the natural wearing of the eye.
