The Best Case for
Transit Oriented Development
Governor Romney and his Secretary
of Commonwealth Development,
Doug Foy chose Revere Beach as the
best place to announce the state’s new
Transit Oriented Development initia-
tive. Immediately adjacent to
Wonderland Station, the terminus of
the MBTA’s Blue Line, three publicly
owned parcels together with one pri-
vately owned parcel comprise nearly
eleven contiguous acres ripe for con-
centrated mixed-use development.
These parcels are currently utilized for
MBTA commuter parking. A recently
completed federally funded feasibility
study concluded that a major parking
structure constructed nearby would
readily accommodate present and
future commuter parking needs, thereby freeing these parcels for private development. The
City of Revere has negotiated development rights agreements with the state for the three
publically owned parcels.
