ITEC30041: Mobile Platform Development

I. Assessment Requirements
Given the scenario in Section II the following should be submitted to the dropbox in the
NOW learning room:

An electronic copy of your zipped Eclipse project file

A separate document containing all of the java code, in either word or PDF format.
This should NOT be submitted with the zip file

A short PowerPoint document summarising the features you have implemented,

and the design, implementation and testing of the app.

A user guide

The .apk file for the app.

Plagiarism detection software will be enabled on the dropbox.

You will need to demonstrate your app.

II. Assessment Scenario/Problem

Android Application
Following on from component one, you are required to design, implement and test your
proposed application on the Android platform. You may choose to implement a subset of
the requirements, which you should justify in your report. You should take into account
the design principles and application lifecycle.

III. Assessment Criteria

First (Excellent)

K2 Apply engineering
principles to the
solution of practical
problems involving
mobile wireless
computing

ex
high
mid
low
Excellent solution to problem
presented, making best use
of what is available.
Relevant guidelines and
principles fully taken into
account.

Upper second
(Very Good)
high
mid
low
Very good solution
presented, some
omissions in addressing
relevant guidelines and
principles.

Third
(Sufficient)
high
mid
low
Trivial problem chosen.
Does not take into account
relevant guidelines and
principles.

Fail
(insufficient)
marg
mid
low
Solution not presented or
not appropriate to
problem.

Some attempt at design

but no clear methods or
techniques used.

Little or no design
evident.

K3 Demonstrate
understanding of
design methods and
techniques

Clear design methodology

showing different aspects of
design. Very well designed
app, design process well
documented.

Well designed and

documented but maybe
some aspects missing.

S3 Design an effective
system that uses
mobile computing to
solve a problem

Excellent working app which

follows well thought out,
through design. Fulfils all
requirements to a high
standard. *Publishable app.

All requirements met,

but some with basic
implementation. Fit for
purpose with some
limitations.

Most requirements met,

basic implementation. App
not fully fit for purpose.

Some requirements met

but app not fit for purpose.
App works but with limited
functionality.

No working app
presented or cannot
explain work.

S4 Produce written
work which is succinct,
logical, well-argued
and literate

Excellently written
presentation, well-structured
and provides clear evidence
of the work undertaken.

Clear and easy to

understand. Well
structured.

Mostly clear, but somewhat

verbose and repetitive.
Structure not clear.

Very little information

fails to explain work. No
structure.

Scale of proposal so
small that little to discuss
or inability to put content
over.

Android Application

Zero

Work of no merit or absent

Lower Second
(Good)
high
mid
low
Good solution to significant
problem chosen, although
a better solution available
in some areas. Some
consideration given to
relevant guidelines and
principles.
Basic design shown but no
clear methodology.

IV. Feedback Opportunities

Formative (Whilst youre working on the coursework)
You will frequently be given informal verbal or written feedback regarding your (or the
classs) performance on tasks relating to the coursework assessment during the seminar
and/or laboratory sessions. Attendance is therefore important for your development and
thus coursework success.

Summative (After youve submitted the coursework)

You will receive specific feedback regarding your coursework submission together with
your awarded grade when it is returned to you. Clearly, feedback provided with your
coursework is only for developmental purposes so that you can improve for the next
assessment or subject-related module.

V. Moderation
The Moderation Process
All assessments are subject to a two-stage moderation process. Firstly, any details
related to the assessment (e.g., clarity of information and the assessment criteria) are
considered by an independent person (usually a member of the module team). Secondly,
the grades awarded are considered by the module team to check for consistency and
fairness across the cohort for the piece of work submitted.
