Read and give constructive comments (Write also about the strengths and weaknesses of your friends work) REFLECTION CHANG JING SIAN In this semester, English Language Proficiency II (WAJ3031) is a compulsory course that needs to be completed by all trainee teachers in semester 2 PISMP. In this course, I learnt a lot of knowledge in our proforma including parts of speech, listening and speaking skill, reading skill, report writing, letter writing, describing graphs, academic writing and reflective writing. In parts of speech, I learnt word classes such as conjunctions, prepositions and interjections. Learning how to use different word classes is important in order to use these words in correct words without any grammar error. I always misuse prepositions like on, at and in. After learning the correct usage of prepositions, I could differentiate the suitable prepositions in certain conditions although would get wrong sometimes. The listening and speaking skill develop my skills in listening and speaking English. I seldom speak English daily and my English is not that good as the others. So I need to speak more wherever and whenever I am. English presentation always makes me feel nervewrecking and frightening because my performance is quite poor. Learning reading skill such as barrettes taxonomy helps us to grasp the main ideas and supporting details of an article effectively. In this case, reading skill will cultivate us to read an article quickly and understand the material efficiently. Besides, I also learnt writing which is report writing, letter writing, describing graph or pie chart, academic writing and reflective writing. Report writing enables me to complete a report when a programme is conducted. Learning to read a graphic organizer is also an important skill that needs to be developed in ourselves. Translate the data from graphics such as pie chart or line graph is needed in order to write a high standard report. Academic writing needs to be learnt by all professional especially college and university students. We always do quotation, citing and paraphrasing ideas from books when accomplishing project. However do we know exactly the correct ways to write the bibliography in APA format? In this course, I did some exercises on APA academic writing to get used in writing references in APA format. Furthermore, I learnt reflective writing is important to us to know our perception and examine our thoughts about something. Through reflection, we can enhance and improve our performance and always reflect on our actions. We also know what we learned throughout a programme and our weakness. In a nutshell, I learnt a lot of useful tips to prepare myself as a future teacher. I would not forget the knowledge and experiences I learnt during this semester and
always keep in mind wherever I am. Once again I would like to thank everyone who gives me cooperation in this semester.
