Bonds Bar

Bartender

Bonds is an exuberant bar, which serves food in a relaxing day atmosphere and offers a fun social
space at night.
To fill the gap between university and full-time employment, I took the opportunity to work here
part-time. This job is far more than serving drinks, and the self-confidence gained from serving
customers as well as other tasks I am responsible for is invaluable. Working in a bar requires one to
work efficiently, quickly and often under a lot of pressure. Coupled with the customer facing nature
of this role, skills gained and improved are easily transferred to relevant business functions.
During my time here, I have also been responsible for conducting staff interviews, coaching other
staff members and developing legal sides of the business to comply with relevant legislation.
Key Achievements:
Conducting a thorough SWOT analysis of the business, identifying areas which
should be developed and opportunities for growth
Created and implemented exit interviews
Developed a skills matrix to identify areas for staff improvement
Implemented regular staff appraisals
Developed and updated contractual terms and conditions to comply with legislation

Gardner Aerospace

HR Officer (fixed term contract)

Gardner Aerospace is one of Europes largest suppliers of aerospace detailed parts, sub-assemblies
and total manufacturing services.
I initially joined Gardner on a voluntary work placement in order to get some applied experience in a
successful global business. Within the first week I was offered the opportunity of a paid short term
role which was to run a project to create a Document Management Policy. My project had three
major parts, firstly to travel to every UK site and scope the document archives, I then created a
document management policy detailing how long documents should be retained and how they
should be disposed of. As part of this project, I also implemented a new indexing system and was key
in creating a master list of documents to allow for timely retrieval of any file required.
My role of HR officer meant that, alongside my project, I would aid the HR director in her day-to-day
tasks. This included researching relevant information ready for 2014 pay negotiations, drafting
letters, writing policies to coincide with changing legislation and sitting in on important meetings. I
was also responsible for recruiting various positions including local and global roles and auditing
contracts over various sites.
Key Achievements

Gained first-hand TUPE experience

Created a global Document Management Policy
Created a Flexible Working Policy to coincide with change in UK legislation
Gained first-hand experience in redundancy consultations
Oversaw the recruitment process of global roles
Created a new communication briefing which is now being used globally

Pickerings LLP

Voluntary unpaid work experience

An independent practice since 1997, Pickerings LLP provide a high quality in client care and are
specialists in their field.
I was able to have the opportunity to take unpaid work experience here, where-by I shadowed a
highly successful solicitor in his day-to-day work. During my time there I was able to demonstrate my
communication skills developed over previous years by speaking with clients and other professionals
on real life cases. The very nature of this experience meant I was able to improve my ability to
problem solve and work thoroughly. My responsibilities also covered the completion of court
attendance forms, allowing me to gain experience in administrative work.

Hilltop Caf

Assistant to the Manager

An independent, small business with excellent potential. The Hilltop Caf caters to the needs of
drivers on long journeys with great comfort.
The nature of this business requires great skills in communication and customer relations. During my
time here I was able to develop many aspects of my professional persona. The main aspect I was
able to develop is customer relations, key to both efficient business and sales. By speaking to
customers on a regular basis I was able to analyse areas of the business which may be improved to
give a better experience. Communication was also key for efficiency, as a small business needs as
little down-time as possible, communication between the manager and I was clear and on-going,
and due to this I was able to provide recommendations from customers, as well as my own personal
ideas for how improvement could be made. While working here, I was able to implement my then
on-going A-Level in Business to great success. This allowed both my practical experience to better
my grades and my studies to better my experience and allow for a greater success.
Key achievements:
Helped create a more efficient business from the roots up, including a more ergonomic
layout and a better implementation of stock.
Developed personal relations with customers, leading to repeat custom which is key for a
small business.
Helped reduce costs due to less waste and a change of supplier.

Personal
I enjoy being busy and having a long term goal. I regularly run and train over long distance as well as
regularly going to the gym to help me stay physically fit. I relish the opportunity to take on further
tasks, and often ask for extra shifts at work as well as going above and beyond my role. I aim to be
successful, and always look to better myself and aid those around me. I was part of a pilot buddymentoring scheme at university and also tutored others to keep myself busy outside of classes and
assignments. I like to relax by walking and attempting a bit of amateur photography.
