P Steel milling stars

ISO

GC4240
and GC1030.
A pair of grades that wont crack under pressure.

These grades are

designed for modern
machining.

These grades are

used in ISO P milling
applications.

These grades are as

tough as theyre
reliable.

These grades dont

mind tricky jobs.

These grades dont

need much looking
after.

l These grades wont

crack under pressure.

l These grades are

ideal for small batches.
But are just as suitable
for mass production.

These grades form

part of A New Insert
Generation from
Sandvik Coromant.

GC4240
is the toughest grade youve ever seen.
GC4240 with CoroMill 390. Its
your No 1 productivity choice in
applications with medium cutter
diameters, free chip flow and
shallow shoulder milling.

STRESSLESS COATING. Weve

developed a new CVD-coating for the GC4240 that approaches the edge line toughness of PVD.

NO STICKING MATERIAL. The

risk of material adhesion is
greatly reduced thanks to a
new way of treating the top
coating of the GC4240.

GC4240 with CoroMill 245,

CoroMill 200, CoroMill 300 and
CoroMill 210. Its your first security choice as a problem solver, and where there are stability
problems. As well as in wet machining applications, and where
theres a risk of chip jamming.

CHECK WEAR. The smart

black-and-gold colouring of
the GC4240 facilitates wear
detection.

MINIMUM CHEMICAL WEAR. The

GC4240s new Al203 alumina coating
acts as an effective diffusion barrier.
Which minimises chemical wear.

WILL NOT CRACK. The GC4240 features a

brand new substrate rich in cobalt, and with
small-sized grains. Thats why it wont crack.

Tough enough for the

toughest steel milling jobs.
Putting out a new generation of
inserts is no song and dance.
Its a question of painstaking
research and development work.
Where the brief in a nutshell
is making the impossible possible.
Like designing an insert thats
faster, safer, harder and tougher.
All at once!
Let us introduce you to the
GC4240.

Increased speeds
and feeds.

If youre facing complex machining tasks and difficult operations, the GC4240 is for you.
Designed to work in conjunction with modern CoroMill tools,
the GC4240 is your first choice
for shoulder milling.
But its just as suitable for
tough and wet machining operations.
This new generation grade is
designed with a brand new and
unique substrate and coating
combination (please refer to the

illustration above).
The benefits are astounding:
The GC4240 allows higher
cutting speeds, greater feed
rates, and a longer time in cut.
Which means greater productivity, and in turn:
More money.
(For you.)

Face milling, square shoulder

milling, end milling and long
edge with CoroMill 390. The
GC4240 is your first choice for
face milling and square shoulder milling with CoroMill 390.
In end milling and long edge
the grade plays the role of
optimiser.

GC1030
will take more wear and tear than you could imagine.
WEAR-RESISTANT AND TOUGH.
The unique multi-layer coating
and substrate of the GC1030
earn the grade top marks for
wear resistance and edge-line
toughness.

GC1030 for difficult jobs.

The GC1030 is your first
choice for smaller diameter
tools.
The grade copes well with
unfavourable tool paths, stability problems, long overhangs and deep cavities.
But also when theres a risk
of chip jamming, and in short
engagements.
The GC1030 likes wet machining.

TAKING IT TO THE EDGE. The

PVD-TiAIN-coated GC1030 features a balance of compressive
stresses that greatly improves
edge-line toughness.

CHECK WEAR. The GC1030

is a bronze-coloured insert
for swift and easy wear detection.

BROAD APPLICATION. The

substrate of the GC1030
means the grade can be employed in a broad spectrum of
applications.

Taking wear-resistance
to the edge.
The task we set ourselves was
not easy:
Increase wear resistance, and
edge-line toughness.
But when you improve at one
end, you often lose out at the
other.
Something our brief simply
would not allow. It said:
No compromise!
Were pleased to introduce
you to a new generation insert
from Sandvik Coromant:
The GC1030.

Goes faster, lasts

longer.

Lets say you want to perform

end milling, using small cutter
diameters.
Where its a question of dry
machining or wet.
And where conditions arent
as stable as youd like.
Thats when youll benefit the
most from using our brand new
GC1030.
The result of extensive R&D,
this insert has a unique multilayer coating (please refer to
the illustration above).

This unique coating means

the GC1030 is both more wearresistant and tougher.
Put differently:
With the GC1030 you can do
more steel milling in less time.
And you can machine longer,
without changing the insert.
Its got to be good.

GC1030 with CoroMill 390.

The GC1030 is your first
choice in end milling and longedge with one or two shoulders and where theres a
high risk of chip jamming.
In square-shoulder milling
the grades ideal when conditions are tough.
While in face milling, the
GC1030 delivers a longer tool
life.

GC1030 with CoroMill

200, CoroMill 300
and CoroMill 210.
The versatile
and easy-touse GC1030 is
perfectly suited to
mixed production with CoroMill
200 and 300.
In CoroMill 210 applications, the grades a problem
solver in plunging operations.
And a good solution for
smaller cutter diameters in
high feed steel milling.
As well as when conditions
are difficult.
GC1030 with CoroMill 331 and
CoroMill 245.
The GC1030 solves problems
in difficult steel milling applications, using CoroMill 331.
Also in CoroMill 245 applications, the GC1030 is employed
as a problem solver.
Particularly, when its a case
of lower cutting speeds, and
demanding tool paths.

We asked a highly regarded

American engineering firm to
run our brand new GC4240
against a competitor insert
in a CoroMill 390 long-edge
application. The results were
most encouraging. 164 hours
less production time! Yearly
savings: $5,573!

Reduced production time: 155

hours! Annual savings: 8,685!
Impressive figures when a Hamburg-based metalworking firm
replaced a competitor insert
with our new generation GC1030
grade, in a high speed steel
application.

Say your job was to develop a new

generation of inserts for metal
cutting. They had to be faster, safer,
harder, tougher. And more versatile
than their predecessors, too. No
easy task, youd say. A job that
would leave absolutely no room for
compromise. Thats right.
