Dukkatas. some extra dukkatas most of which arent mentioned in Patimokkha.

- Sitting on a bench with a woman or eunuch


- sleeping outdoors.
- Throwing rubbish out of window
- Going to see an entertainment.
- Handling anything belonging to a woman e.g., clothes or female dolls or animals.
- Handling musical instruments or weapons, animal traps, fruit trees, fruit.
- not hanging robes properly.
- Using mirror properly.
- Wearing laymans clothes.
- Frequenting wrong resorts.
- Speaking playfully about the Three Refuges.
- Bowing to an unordained person, a junior bhikkhu, someone in another sect, someone under
sanghadisesa, someone naked.
Inappropriate but not dukkata.
- To bow to someone eating, defaecating, or in a public place.
- To wear sandals, use a sitting cloth, wear a hat, when the senior monk isnt.

- To overdo polite relating to monks in public, e.g., always paying anjali.


The Eight Vattas, or Duties.
1 Senasana- Lodging.
- not to lean against walls.in monastery with bare flesh, (usually head, but by extension, bare
flesh on mattresses.)
- walking with damp or dirty feet.
- keeping room tidy.
2 Visiting Bhikkhus- arriving vatta.
- to greet bhikkhu,
- to offer refreshment,
- if he's senior, receive bowl and robe immediately and enquire vassas.
- if he's junior, technically you tell him where to find water.
- introduce him to Guestmaster.
3 Visiting bhikkhu vatta.
- should find senior monk to pay respect to, or if not, bow to shrine.
- uncover right shoulder as soon as getting out of vehicle. Don't bow with covered shoulders.
- find one's place to sit, correct asana.
- make yourself easy with other residents, (not aloof, difficult to look after.)
4 When a bhikkhu goes to stay.
- take leave of Acariya,
- put lodging in good order, and return things to distributor of lodging..
- upon arriving, enquire about lodging, pindapata, toilets,and daily routine.
5 Acariya.
- student should look after and be attendant to him
- desires or seeks his instruction.
- makes effort to end any deterioration in him.
- keeps him in good humour.
- shows respect to him.
- takes leave when going and arranges another attendant..
- keen to nurse him when sick.
6 Student vatta.
- the Upajjhaya/Acariya should look after student.
- help to find requisites.
- Instruct him.
- Look after him when sick.
7 Toilet Vatta.
- toilets are used according to arrival and need, not seniority.
- check by coughing before entry.
- remove robes,upper and outer.,(alright to urinate with robes on. alright in lay person's house
with robes on.)
- not straining oneself.
- not to do something else.
- keep toilet clean and well supplied with water (nowadays, with paper.)
8 Sick Bhikkhu Vatta.
- Fellow bhikkhus should be keen to nurse other bhikkhus.
- sick bhikkhus should make themselves easy to look after.

Patimokkha
1 Preliminary Duties.

3 Post Patimokkha chanting (to be learnt.)
Bowls
1 Practice putting on and taking off bowl covers.
2 Bowl washing and bowl care.
Etiquette
1 How to relate to a senior monk.
- sitting lower if possible.
- anjali.
- not to use a sitting cloth if he isnt.
- offering him a seat.
- not to dominate a conversation. Speaking second.
2 Practice putting on robes and folding Sanghati.
3 Practice getting on and off asana and sitting discreetly.
4 Practice proper bowing and anjali.
5 Eating etiquette.
- not scraping spoon., slurping.
- fruit.
- bowl lid.
6 Leaving the monastery for a Dana.
- what to take; Yam. Tissues.
- practice putting on and wearing robe over both shoulders.
7 Pindapata Etiquette.
8 How to behave on ordination day.
- not to start opening gifts in front of everyone.
- to bindu and determine cloth..
- Give up any medicines.
To Be Learnt
1 Learn 37 Bodhipakkhiyadhamma
2 The Five qualities a new bhikkhu should establish. (Anguttara Nikaya.)
- Be self controlled keeping within the Vinaya.i.e.,not doing what is not allowed, doing what
is allowed.
- Be self controlled with regard to the six senses, i.e., not letting pleasure or displeasure
overwhelm one on sense contact.
- not to loud or boistrous with regard to speech, not to talk too much.
- Dwell in solitude.
- Establish Right View.

3 Formulas.
.- Entering Vassa.
- Dependence.
- Forgiveness.
- Forfeiture of robes kept more than ten days.
- Forfeiture of medicines.
- Forfeiture of robes not with one at dawn.
at least to have these written in notebook and to be familiar with them.
4 Practicing ordination chanting in pairs and in group, and practicing ordination procedure.
Dyeing
- cotton, use salt.
- wool, use vinegar.
- not to wash monastery-dyed cloth with commercial powder, but to use washing-up
detergent.
Read a copy of Navakovada.
