GENERAL PREMISE AND EDUCATIONAL APPROACH

This module provides the students with a comprehensive overview of applicable networking
technology as presented in the first module, Implementing Cisco IP Routing, of the CCNP
Version 6.0 course, developed by Cisco Systems.

LEARNING ACTIVITIES

4.1 Contact time and learning hours


The module will be presented from 24 Nov - 5 Dec 2014 (including Saturday, 29 Nov) 08:0017:00. Attendance of the complete 2 weeks of lectures, practicals and self-study in the
computer lab is compulsory.
4.2 Assignments
Additional assignments to the online tests will be given during the lectures and are
compulsory.
4.3 Laboratory work
Students will complete practicals in groups. Groups will be allocated during the second
semester. Watch the web site.

RULES OF ASSESSMENT

Also see the examination regulations in the Year Books of the Faculty of Engineering, Built
Environment and Information Technology (Part 1: Engineering, or Part 2: Built Environment
and Information Technology).
All module exams will be written in the CAEC lab at the end of each day, and will be
supervised and there will be an attendance list. These exams are compulsory and any
student not writing all the module exams will not be allowed to write the final course exam.
Any student caught contravening the regulations of the University of Pretoria will be
sent to the Discipline committee for further investigation, no exceptions (e.g. cheating)
Pass requirement is 60% for the final CCNP (Route) exam, as well as satisfactory completion
of the practicals and 60% in the skills based examination.

STUDY COMPONENT
1.

MODULE OBJECTIVES, ARTICULATION AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The objective of this module is to provide the student with theoretical background and
practical experience in the principles of computer networking and the implementation of
routers.
No prerequisite learning is required.
EIW 121 and EIW 221 modules are prerequisites for EIW 320.
ECSA exit-level outcomes include the following:

ECSA 2.8: Team and multidisciplinary work
