Did you know that parents can check their childrens lunch
account online?? The website is www.mymealtime.com and
you create a profile the very first time. To create your profile,
you will need to have your childs student identification
number which they have memorized. You can also find all
kinds of information on our CREC website at Meals Program
Info, including the menu, applications for free/reduced lunch
and nutritional info.
A Message from the Administration:
Dear MLC families,
I hope you all enjoyed your Thanksgiving and you were surrounded by love and
laughter the whole day through. We have much to be thankful for and too often
we take for granted the little things, which really are the BIG things. Today the high
school students did just that by participating in the Distracted Driving event
sponsored by the CT Department of Transportation. Students participated in a
simulation exercise where they were challenged with operating a motor vehicle in
addition to using a cellphone. Students pledged to not engage in texting while
driving in addition to hearing four stories that ended tragically due to teenagers not
ignoring their phones. We hope they took something meaningful from todays
presentation and can share what they learned today to change the behaviors of
others. Drive safe! Mrs. Heather Gish High School Dean of Students

Dear MLC Parents,

By now, your childs Quarter One report card has been mailed home. Hopefully, you have had a chance to
review it with your child and discuss plans to maintain or improve achievement in his or her classes. We
know that there are still many of you who are not sure what youre seeing when you look at an MLC
report card. If you are one of those parents, we are here to help with that!
We want to be sure that every one of you is comfortable and confident in two areas:
1. Knowing how MLC grading works; and

2. Understanding the information that MLC report cards can tell you about your childrens
development as learners.
No RSVP required just come anytime during Parent-Teacher Conferences on December 9 and 10
to learn more about what and how MLC report cards can work for you and your children.
As ever, please let me know if you have questions. I am also available to work with parents on December
9 and 10, so you can also ask for me on those days if you would like!
Best,
Emily Wright MLCs IB Middle Years Programme Coordinator

Sixth-grade students at the CREC Metropolitan Learning Center for Global and International Studies in
Bloomfield are learning a few lessons from the Hartford Wolf Pack.
It started earlier in November when students from the school attended the Wolf Packs first-ever
School Dan Game at the XL Center in Hartford. At that time, the Wolf Pack launched its Kindness
Campaign which focuses on the importance of treating others with respect and consideration. The
team has a kindness pledge that is encourages children to sign, and students at the CREC Metropolitan
Learning Center have done so.
A few weeks later, Wolf Pack players Ryan Bourque and Matt Bodie visited the school to talk about
the teams reading program called Read to the Rink. Participating students will read five teacherapproved books within a specific time period. Those who complete the challenge get a free ticket to a
Wolf Pack game. Parents, guardians, and siblings will be offered discounted tickets.
In addition to the reading program, the Wolf Pack players also spoke with students about how to
recognize bullying, about the impact of bullying, and about how to deal with bullying problems.

News from the Library!

TLC - 4 - MLC
This year I am starting a library advisory committee which will be called TLC for MLC. This is a
play on words as it stands for The Library Crew, but also means Tender Loving Care. It is
my goal to have the committee help in assessing the library in its current condition and create
goals and a plan to improve the library. The committee will meet once a month and there will
be representatives from each grade. Our first meeting was held on 11/20/14. Students
provided invaluable feedback on our book collection specifically. I am truly excited to work
together on assessing our library so that we can make it even better! I am hoping to have
some parents join our committee as well as staff. If you are interested, please contact me
(suartis@crec.org) and our next meeting will be in December.

News from 11th/12th Grade!

In effort to defray the cost of Prom, we have created a fundraiser with Party Lite Candles. A
meeting was held with interested students on Friday November 21, 2014 to discuss this
opportunity. If you have any specific questions or are interested in participating please
contact Mrs. Alicia Clark Aclark@crec.org for the order forms and brochures.
Party Lite Candle Fundraiser Online
Do you love candles? Do you know people who love candles? Do you need to buy presents for
the holidays? Please support the MLC prom committee and participate in our Party Lite Online
Party. All you need to do is go to the website http://www.partylite.biz/wendyyoung and
shop! Orders placed by December 16th will be guaranteed by Christmas. If you order online
through this website, the prom committee will receive a portion of your order as
profit. Before you check out, be sure to connect your order to the host: Alicia Clark in order
for it to count toward our goal. Thank you for your participation!
