Freedom Today

T he state of the freedom move-

ment today. . . . who are we, what
do we stand for, and where are we
going?

F reedom is something that you

can only have yourself, if you are
willing to grant it to others.  Do we in
the Tea Party movement really stand
for freedom, or are we just upset
because Obama is in power.  Would
we in the Tea Party movement have
been pleased if McCain was office
imposing the Republican brand of
socialism on the nation instead of
the democratic brand of socialism? 

M any in our movement voiced

little opposition when Bush
was violating his oath of office.   Now
that we have a new president people
are asking where in the Constitu-
tion does the federal government
get the authority to regulate health
care.  Good question.  Here’s another,
where in the Constitution does the
federal government get the author-
ity to wage its war on drugs?  Or to
impose a prescription drug benefit

In 2009 we found our
voice, we practiced civil
disobedience, and we or-
ganized our communities.
And although our efforts
made only a small impres-
sion on our detached rep-
resentatives in Congress,
this movement has begun
to energize the nation.
We must continue our
endeavor with the knowl-
edge that the principles
of liberty and freedom are
rising in the esteem of the
common individual, and
that the reckless spend-
thrift ways of our gifting
representatives are now
being related to moral and
financial bankruptcy.
Let us seize this opportu-
nity in 2010, recalling the
words of Edward Everett
Hale.
“I am the only one, but I am
one. I cannot do every-
thing, but I can do some-
thing. And because I can-
not do everything, I will not
refuse to do the something
that I can do. What I can
do, I should do and what I
should do, by the Grace of
God, I will do.”
Remember that our
founding fathers ex-
hausted their time, their
talents, and their energies;
they risked their fortunes
and their lives to ensure
subsequent generations’
freedom and prosperity.
Know that we go forth
with a plan, identify the
things that you can do,

and God willing, do them.
Step One: Set the tone of
your community.
Write a letter to the editor
of your local newspaper.
Organize your efforts so
that you may take turns,
with each member writing
weekly, which will relieve
you of constant burden
and yet still constantly
remind the citizens of
your community of the
principles of limited gov-
ernment, sound monetary
policy, personal liberties,
and a strict constitutional
adherence.
This is the single most
important thing that
you can do. Bart Stupak
has repeatedly replied
to letters to the editor in
his district. Use his own
words and unprincipled
arguments against him.
Do this continuously until
November 2010.

Step Two: The Tea Party
Organizations will orga-
nize.
Now that each community
has organized, the entire
1st Congressional District
(31 Counties) is organiz-
ing the Tea Party groups
to ally under a common
cause. On January 30th of
this month, every known
Tea Party organization in
Michigan’s 1st Congres-
sional District will convene
upon St. Ignace to prepare
for the upcoming election
year. The meeting will be
held at the Quality Inn
(located near the Big Boy
restaurant) at 2:00 P.M. All
members of the public
are welcome, no political
party or candidate solicita-
tions will be allowed.
I urge you to become as
deeply involved in your lo-
cal Tea Party group as pos-
sible this year. And when
you are not putting on a
rally in your community,
please travel to adjacent
communities and support
their rallies.
Step Three: Identify and
support liberty candi-
dates. All of our grievanc-
es would dissolve rapidly
if we had good represen-
tation in Washington.
Therefore all of our efforts
should be placed behind
a good candidate once we
find that the spirit of our
movement resides within
one of them.
Step Four: Do all that you
can. I have listed only the
barest of essential tasks
that we must accomplish
this next year. Writing
must not be under-
stated. The population
receives too much pro-
paganda and it is in great
need of sound principled
arguments to change the
priorities of this country.
By our writing we will es-
tablish the correct frame
of mind of the population
to want, and to need the
change that our candi-
date effects. Write, write,
and write, so that those of
us who are writing are not
seen as isolated radicals.
Beyond this, please use
your imagination- get on
the radio, hold marches,
meet with college politi-
cal organizations, meet
with community orga-
nizations (like the Lions,
Kiwanis, Eagles, Elks,
American Legion, etcet-
era), spread our message
far and wide and make it
as public as you can.
Become involved in your
local political party. It
doesn’t matter which
party you choose, both
severely need ideas and
leadership friendly to-
wards liberty.
The job of civil resis-
tance is to force a reac-
tion. We must provoke,
provoke and provoke
until we force the reac-
tion we are seeking
from this government.

M y mother always taught me to write thank-you notes.
Notes of gratitude after receiving something to
be grateful for, like—and most
importantly—a gift. My favorite,
of course, being money. After
awhile, you just get into thank-
you-note mode, and you just
rewrite the same letter time-after-
time only changing the recipient’s
name. Seriously, how much fun is
going through all those cards from
your open house? An awesome
time—purely awesome. This year, I
thought it would be beautifully kind
to write a thank-you to my Com-
mander-in-Chief, my Muslim-Loving-
that just-like-you-and-me-guy in the oval office, Mr. Barack
Obama.
I would hit certain notes: Thank-you, Mr. President, for taking

This is ridiculous! I won’t argue
the health benefits of smoking,
because as far as know there
are none. I don’t even like the
smell of smoke. That stink never
leaves your clothes, whatever
the detergent bottles says. I am
not a smoker.
