DECEMBER 2014
Ongoing events and travel news of note:
Grab a pen! Drop a note to Santa and get a collectible postmark
Whether naughty or nice, its time for kids of all ages to write that letter to Santa. Kids who are
really in the know will send it where it gets real attention: Santa Claus, Indiana! Santa Claus
Post Office is the only post office anywhere with the Santa Claus name! If you get to town
drop in at the post office to receive the famous Santa Claus postmark during the Christmas
season. Or mail a self-addressed, stamped letter in an envelope to them. It will be returned
with the postmark. Thanks to the legacy of a very considerate man, James Martin, the towns
14th postmaster in 1914, letters sent to Santa Claus get answered. The US Postal Service
thought this might be a bother, so they once suggested the town change its name. No way,
Crumpet! The elves wouldnt consider it! Even in this age of e-mail, the non-profit
organization, Santa's Elves Inc., and the Santa Claus Museum, organize volunteers who
answer some 13,000 letters a year. So, OK, kids, in your best penmanship now, write to: Santa
Claus, Santa Claus Post Office, 45 North Kringle Place, Santa Claus, IN 47579 or for
visitor information call 812-937-4469 or click over to www.SantaClausInd.org
