It goes without saying that global hunger is an issue, but not many realize the issue is
in our backyard. Feeding Children Everywhere, a non-profit organization started when Don
Campbell and his wife Kristen put together their savings and started a movement that would
bring volunteers together and feed the world. By November 2011, Don and his team had shipped
over five million meals through out the world. Today, Feeding Children Everywhere has sent
over 20 million meals around the world. By packaging healthy meals, Feeding Children
Everywhere is taking steps to feed the hunger. Every $1 donated provides four healthy meals for
hungry children.
Nearly 805 million people in the world do not have enough food; meaning 1 in 9
people on earth suffer from starvation. Hunger is an ongoing problem, especially in Central
Florida. 77% of people in the Orlando area reported to having to use unconventional means for
getting enough food this past year. The University of Central Florida realizes the food epidemic
and helps students who struggle with buying food. Knights Pantry on campus allows students to
take up to 5 meals a day five days a week. However, not all students are comfortable enough to
walk in and grab a can of food.
Feeding the hunger is something I am passionate about because of the effect I see it has
on people. For example, students cannot function and study unless they have consumed a healthy
meal. People cannot get through their day if their bodies arent given enough nutrients to think.
Hunger is an issue that can simply be solved. If every student at the University of Central Florida
donated one dollar to Feeding Children Everywhere, we would be able to feed 2,400,000 people.
Now, you may ask how will I help fight world hunger? As Vice President of
Community Involvement for the Panhellenic council at the University of Central Florida, I have
the opportunity to plan a UCF community wide event of my choice. On November 9, 2014, my

vision will become reality. The event will be called Pack to Attack Hunger and it will be
benefitting Feeding Children Everywhere. This event will inspire the UCF community to make a
difference in the lives of hungry children. Volunteers will be assembled in lines and will be
hand-packaging healthy meals to send to hungry people in the Orlando community. My goal is to
motivate the UCF community to raise $50,000 in order to package 200,000 meals to be sent out
to hungry people in Central Florida. I believe having the community come together and package
meals will make more of an impact than doing a food drive or have people simply donate money.
If individuals come in and package meals, they will physically be able to see how they are
positively affecting the Orlando community.
Raising money for this event will not be easy but I am determined to spend the entire
semester raising awareness about world hunger and motivating people to come participate in
Pack to Attack Hunger. Events such as partial proceeds will help raise money. For example, I
plan to partner up with Rianas nail salon and host a partial proceeds for the Panhellenic
community at UCF. Since the audience for this project is college students, I need to work hard to
fundraise in a way that appeals to them. College students are usually worried about money and
feeding themselves, so in order to get them involved I will have to show them what a great
opportunity participating in Pack to Attack Hunger is.
The rhetorical techniques and media use for this project are very specific. I have found
that social media is the most effective way to promote Pack to Attack Hunger. Facebook, for
example, is a simple and easy way to communicate this event and the goal of the event. I have
teamed up with Feeding Children Everywhere to create a fundraising website so that students
and people in the UCF community will be able to email their friends and family and help
fundraise. I would like to emotionally appeal to the UCF community while showing them how

beneficial it would be for them to participate in this Hunger project. I plan on visiting each
chapter in the UCF Greek community and explaining what exactly Pack to Attack Hunger is and
how they can help make the event successful. Participating in Pack to Attack Hunger would not
only give them the opportunity to feed hungry children in the Orlando community but it would
give the organizations participating in the event great publicity. Using rhetoric as a way to get
my message across will allow me to positively persuade students at UCF to participate in Pack to
Attack Hunger.
