English Communcation Skills for IV Btech- Syllabus for the month of August
Just a Minute
Just a Minute speech making is given a lot of importance in the interviews conducted
by MNCs nowadays. In the context of a global village scenario, the MNCs expect a high
standard of communication skills from the candidates. It is not enough, if one speaks English but
one must be in a position to speak English effectively with a correct pronunciation and accent to
hired. Through the JAM session, apart from the language skills of the candidates, the MNCs
would like to assess the over-all personality of the candidate. They would like to scan the
candidate both horizontally and vertically because, it is quite possible the candidate under
scrutiny might lead a team handling a mega project worth Rs 500 crores in the future. Hence, he
or she must be in corruptible and above suspicion. A candidate appearing for an interview should
have mastery over soft skills. What are soft skills? Soft skills are a set of characteristic traits one
must possess in order to impress the interviewers.

Be honest and truthful because you can be grilled on any word uttered by you.
JAM is a type of oral presentation aimed at testing the speaking skills of the candidate.
This program has been adopted by many MNCs all over the world to test the extempore
presentation skills of the candidate. Sometimes, the topics given may not be of a serious
type. To be successful in the JAM session, one has to be smart, sharp and imaginative.
One has to speak for 60 seconds with no hesitation, repetition and deviation. The
participant has to wind up every thing with in one minute.
More than what you say, how you say it is important. Precision and simple language are
key points here-

JAM is a BBC radio comedy panel game first transmitted in 1967. The object of the game is for
panelists to talk for 60 seconds on a given subject with out repetition, hesitation and deviation.
