Hibbard, David R., and Gail E. Walton. "Exploring the Development of Perfectionism: The
Influence of Parenting Style and Gender." Social Behavior and Personality: n. pag.
elibrary. Web. 16 Sept. 2014. The authors research the different type of parenting styles,
authoritative, authoritarian, and permissive-indulgent. They explain how they created a
questionnaire for students to take about their parents. What they learned about indulgent
parenting style is that it gave the child, now adult, poor self control and school
performance. They concluded that it is a key factor to the development of maladaptive
perfectionism.
Hutchinson, Susan L., Cherly K. Baldwin, and Linda L. Caldwell. "Differentiating Parent
Practices Related to Adolescent Behavior in the Free Time Context." Journal of Leisure
Research: n. pag. elibrary. Web. 17 Sept. 2014. The authors argue that parents who are
authoritative, have children who are less likely influenced by peer pressure. Furthermore,
they state parents must manage the free time their child receives. They also claim parents
who are authoritative have children who engage in fewer delinquent or risk behaviors
compared to others raised differently.
Nelson, Margaret K., and Lee Ann Jolley. "Parenting Out of Control: Anxious Parents in
Uncertain Times." Journal of Family and Consumer Sciences: n. pag. elibrary. Web. 16
Sept. 2014. Nelson describes the different types of parenting and what each style contains
of. She argues that each class, professional, middle and working, has a specific type of
parenting style and in how they treat their children. It is also claimed that a childs well
being is related to parenting practices.

Schiffrin, Holly, et al. "Helping or Hovering? The Effects of Helicopter Parenting on College
Students' Well Being." Journal of Child and Family Studies: n. pag. elibrary. Web. 16
Sept. 2014. The authors claim that high parental involvement is affecting the
psychosocial adjustment of children. When parents are too involved and controlling, it
reduces the competence and undermines the parent, child relationship. Their data shows
that helicopter parenting leads to children growing up to never be satisfied with their life.
Yancey, Antronette K. "Building Positive Self-Image in Adolescents in Foster Care: The Use of
Role Models in an Interactive Group Approach." Adolescence: n. pag. elibrary. Web. 15
Sept. 2014. Yancey claims there is a high prevalence of emotional disturbances among
those in foster care. Teens in foster care have high chances of educational
underachievement and socially costly forms of dependency. Moreover, Yancey argues
that the problems from the adolescents in foster care don't arise from genetics but the
environment they grew up in.
