Mr. Foutz
Introduction
Attention Getter: One sentence (often a question but not required) which offers a hook that
commands attention.
Establishment of Credibility: One to three sentences which offers the audience an interesting
fact that shows some level of depth and research. Here you would cite a source but you will not
be the source.
Thesis/Purpose: The purpose of this speech is to commemorate..
Preview of Main Points: First we will cover Main Idea 1 (only give it a specific name; perhaps
a point of winning quality about that person). Then we will examine Main Idea 2 (by name;
perhaps how they affected society at large in some great way). Finally we will discuss Main Idea
3 (third attribute by name but all with commemorative tones).
Body
Main Idea 1: This is where you expound on your first commemorative themed description about
the subject you are discussing. You want to make sure to be concise and cite your sources where
it be parenthetically or According to
Length of paragraph depends on depth of research and time which will allow for such
exploration about that subject. Be careful to make this commemorative and not just a biography.
Each point must pay tribute to instead of just informing.
The difference is in commemorative, you not only inform, you brag about why you and others
care about this subject. How this has made a difference in your life; someone elses life; in
society at large.
Transition: One sentence that lets us know we are finishing with point one and going to point
two.
Main Idea 2: This is where you expound on your first commemorative themed description about
the subject you are discussing. You want to make sure to be concise and cite your sources where
it be parenthetically or According to

Conclusion
Signal the End: A single sentence, typically starting with In closing, which lets us know we
are at the end.
Review of Main Points: This is your preview in review format. Like the preview, its three
sentence long. You are merely restating the preview though not verbatim.
Closing: One sentence that ties it all together. Typically, if you start with a question you end
with a question.
On a separate sheet of paper, you will have your source citation page in APA style. Since this is
commemorative, you will merely list the names of those whom you interviewed.
