Course Description:
CJS 4396.002 is a course designed to provide students with an overview
of the techniques and processes utilized to effectively investigate a crime
scene. The goal of this course is to provide the student with the knowledge
to understand the various steps required to process a crime scene for
evidence.

Course Objectives:
To help the student understand the complexities involved in processing a
crime scene for physical evidence.
To develop an understanding in the role science plays in processing the
crime scene.
To better understand the importance of an effective crime scene
investigation versus a poorly conducted crime scene investigation.

Special Note Regarding this semester:

It is important that you keep up with the assigned readings to ensure you
get the most from the lectures.

Attendance:
Students are expected to attend class. It is the responsibility of the student
to make arrangements with the instructor regarding absences on test days
and when and if homework is due. MAKE-UP QUIZZES OR EXAMS
ARE FROWNED UPON. Written explanations are required and students
must make arrangement prior to the absence if possible.
Attendance during presentations, videos, guest speakers or field trips is
mandatory, the cost of missing one without a university excused absence
is a zero on the points assigned for that day.
The syllabus is TENTATIVE. The scheduled readings, videos, speakers,
field trips, etc. are subject to change. Changes will be posted Web CT and
announced in class.

prior to the exam or have documented evidence of illness, etc.).
Please avoid make-up exams. Exams are scheduled well in
advance and you should make plans accordingly.
All grades will be posted on Web CT. If you have taken all three
exams, and are satisfied with your grade, do not take the final. If,
however, you are not satisfied with your grade, you may take the
cumulative final and substitute one of your other test grades.

Once you sit for any exam you will receive a grade for that exam
