Precautions on using bench grinders

The grinder is for light duty home use and is particularly useful for sharpening
garden tools and drills.
Maximum continuous operating time 20 minutes.
Disconnect power supply plug before replacing wheels or covers.
Always use guards and eye shields.
Use grinding wheels suitable for the speed of the grinder.
Ensure grinding wheels rotate freely before switching on the power.
Do not operate the grinder with the wheel guard off.
Do not use the grinder wheels for cutting purposes.
Do not overload the grinder.
Use a wheel dresser to remove burrs from the grinding wheel.
Items which have been ground will be hot and may have sharp edges. Do not touch
materials that have been recently ground unless wearing suitable hand protection,
such as a close fitting glove.
Never allow material to jam between the wheels and the rests.
Never strike the wheels, as they are brittle and may crack.
Never use a wheel that has been cracked.
Do not grind on the sides of the wheels.
Do not grind with the machine turned off, or while the wheels are running down.
For best results the wheels should be dressed with a diamond tip or grinding wheel
dresser whenever the surfaces are no longer true.
When grinding, try to use the whole face of the wheel to avoid gouging grooves in
the face of the wheels.

Assembly
Assemble the eye shield, spark breakers and tool rests using the screws provided.
Be sure to position both the tool rests and spark breakers no more than 2.0 mm
from the edge of the grinding wheel.
It is advisable to secure the edge of the grinder to the workbench or stand.
The grinder should always be mounted on a clean, firm surface such as a bench top
and should not be used unless bolted down.
The tool rest must be assembled so the wheel rotates freely, but with a gap of no
more than 2 mm between the rest and the wheel.

Operation
After switching on the grinder allow it to reach full speed before commencing
grinding operation.
The eye shields are able to be adjusted and should be positioned to allow the
operator a clear view of the work through the shields.
The appropriate adjustments of the tool rests will provide the correct working angle
for efficient grinding. As the diameter of the grinding wheel is subject to wear, it
will be necessary to re-adjust the tool rests positions to maintain the correct gap of
less than 2.0 mm with the edge of the grinding wheel.
